Summary:

Add friends form has NO fields in IE 5 for mac
|
Original Request:
uh...
i think that covers it, really. I can e-mail you a screenshot if you like. On
http://www.livejournal.com/friends/edit_do.bml , I just get a message saying "No Friends?
You do not currently have any friends defined. However, we're sure you have to have a few friends! :) Just enter their LiveJournal names below.... "
...then a list of foreground and background colours, and a colour chip. No fields for the form.

Go to the Friends page (http://www.livejournal.com/friends/edit.bml). You can edit, add or remove all your friends from there.
If this doesn't work either, please email Brad Fitzpatric (bradfitz@livejournal.com), telling him the error and this support request number.

While I'm not familiar with the MacOS, I believe you can still go directly to the "add friend" address. All you have to do is go to http://www.livejournal.com/friends/add.bml?user=USERNAMEHERE and enter the person you want to add in place of "USERNAMEHERE". I'm working on an FAQ for this right now. Let me know if you are able to add friends this way.

Scott,
That's the link that leads to the page with the problem. It didn't work. That's why I posted here.
terytaya,
That worked! Thankyou. :) All I'll need to do now is keep a clipping of that URL *sulk*
Wouldn't it be a great idea to have a one-click button on another person's journal to add them to your friends list?

I can add friends using terytaya's link, but even though i now have friends i can STILL not see any fields to enter someone's name. Nor can I edit colours. I get a nice list of colours repeated 12 times, mind you.
This problem is reproducible in both netscape 4.7 and IE 4 and 5. oh, and I have Java and all the other useful things enabled.

It's just above the user pic, right in the middle of the screen on a table with a blue background...

How very odd!
The developers are begining to awaken (it's only 3pm, give them chance): http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?itemid=2042851
(NOTE: I am a developer (just not on LJ) so don't flame me for the 3pm joke....yo wouldn't injure one of your own...would you? *grin*)

Oh - please don't forget i have trouble with editing friends' colours, too - the abovementioned list of colours all repeated in a chunk. (i'd have added that in the developers' thread but i'm not sure if that's 'apropos' for rank amateurs such as myself *wink*). I have screenshots of this as well, if you like.

Sorry they're all squinched up... you should be able to get the idea.
it's not really killing me, you know, just a nuisance. :) All I'm really worried about is whether this is happening for other Mac users; if it's not, I know it's my problem.

You can by all means post comments to the post in there!
This is a known error for all mac users (well, other people have obviously reported it) going way back to January! I have no idea why it's not been resolved.
Leave this problem open until it gets fixed...
Sorry about this - I am glad it's not deterred you from using LiveJournal! After all, we are all human and sometimes make mistakes. *grin*

I fixed the missing Add User icon thing myself!! *gasp*
Y'see, there's this control panel called WebFree, which I use to suppress things like banner ads, BLINK tags and endlessly looping animated GIFs.
I just turned it off. And lo and behold... the add user icon appeared.
The way WebFree works to suppress ad banners is to block images coming from pathways like /adv/, /remoteads/, /clickthru/ and so on. Apparently the path or the name of the add user icon is somehow objectionable to WebFree's filtering system.
For some incomprehensible reason this has also fixed the other problem with the colour-picking options not coming through as it ought to be.
*hits head on wall* WHY did i not think of this before?! *thump, thump*
Thanks for your attention, though. I've posted this fix in the developers thread so that, if this bug gets reported again, you can ask them if they're using this control panel.
MY GOD. I suck. Why didn't I see that earlier! *flagellates self*
