Summary: Cannot log in using Opera
Original Request:
I use Opera 10.10 in Windows XP as my primary browser, and for the past several days, I have had periodic difficulty in using the login page. I will fill in my username, and sometimes password, and then find that I can't interact with the rest of the page: can't click links, go to text boxes, or, most importantly, press the "login" button. Tab continues to work, but tabbing to the login button and then pressing enter usually doesn't. Even mouseover stops having any effect.

Sometimes this only happens after a failed login w/bad password; sometimes it happens on the first try. Reloading the page usually doesn't help, nor does restarting the browser. Sometimes going to a different login page (or the site-scheme login rather than the login page) helps; usually, once the problem starts, it effects all LJ pages.

Is this the result of recent changes to the site code? And if so, is there any hope of getting Opera compatibility back, or should I just give up on LJ entirely?

(fyi, Login has been slightly broken in Opera for some time (redirect back to homepage after login just takes me to something borked) but since that didn't interfere with my use of the site I was okay with it.)
Diagnostics: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.10

Thank you for your report, and I apologize for the extreme delay in this response. LiveJournal Support volunteers have duplicated the difficulties you describe with selecting the login and other fields on the home page and have reported them to site developers for investigation.

You may wish to watch the lj_releases community [http://community.livejournal.com/lj_releases/profile], as any updates or fixes to this problem will be announced there. You may also wish to use LiveJournal's Login page at [https://www.livejournal.com/login.bml] to log in, rather than the home page. If this page presents similar problems for you, you will need to use an alternate browser to access LiveJournal until this issue is resolved.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry about the close and re-open, I didn't realize I could only comment on an open request.

Thank you so much for you work on this and your reply. I have since, apparently, managed to work around the problem by blocking livejournal.com's access to javascript in Opera, though of course blocking javascript has broken many other things on the site. As I mostly use LJ to read & comment on locked content at the moment, though, it's workable.

I do want to mention that as far as I recall, the problem was also occurring on the login page, in case you didn't manage to duplicate that.

I know Opera users are difficult all out of proportion to our numbers, so thank you for working so hard for me, and good luck to the developers!
