    — What is the limit for file uploading for free?

By default every user gets 1Gb of storage space for photos.
Max size of a single photo you can upload is 20Mb.
If a user is active enough, they publish articles and comments, and their social capital has reached 10, then the general limit gets expanded to 5Gb.
If this user also creates entries in the modern editor and/or uses the mobile app, the limit gets raised to 20Gb.

    — What is the limit for file uploading in the paid version?

The Professional package grants you 100Gb for the photos.

    — How many photos can I upload per day?

Current limit is 15 Gb in a month.

    — What is the max size of a photo I can upload?

Max size of a single photo is 20 Mb.

    — If I post a photo from another web site, will it consume my storage space?

No, storage space is only consumed by files you upload directly to LiveJournal Scrapbook.

    — What is my limit? Where can I see how much space I’ve got left?

You can check in Scrapbook or here how much free space you have left.

    — Is this the total limit for photos and videos altogether?

Photos and videos have different limits for uploading.

    — Can I use my storage space as a cloud storage for my files?

You can only upload images and videos. No other file types can be uploaded.

    — How do I upload music? How do I upload a pdf/excel file?

You cannot upload music or pdf/excel file to storage space.
Instead, you can add them to your post via external resources using <iframe>.

    — How can I expand the storage space?

When the Professional package expires, the base volume of disk space available to you will drop to 1Gb (5Gb, 20Gb) subject to your activity level, social capital, and use of the mobile app and/or modern editor. Images and videos you uploaded previously won’t be deleted, and will remain available for viewing.

    — Can I add or buy extra space to upload files?

If your account has no packages attached, you can expand the disk space available as explained earlier.
If you have an account with the Professional package, it has the max storage space available to you.

When the Professional package expires, the base volume of storage space available to you will drop to 1Gb/5Gb/20Gb subject to your activity level, social capital, and use of the mobile app and/or modern editor. Images and videos you uploaded previously won’t be deleted, and will remain available for viewing.

    — A photo has vanished from my entries, what should I do and why can this happen?

You may have been using an external image hosting service. We advise to store photos in the LJ Scrapbook, then your photos won’t be lost.
If you have isues with Scrapbook, please contact our Support.

    — I deleted photos from the album, why did they disappear from my entries?

If you remove images and videos from the albums, they won’t be displayed in the entries were you posted them.

    — I deleted photos from my entries, why hasn’t the album’s free volume expanded?

To clear the storage space, you have to delete images from the Scrapbook itself.

    — I deleted many photos from the album yet I still cannot add new ones. I’m told I’m out of space.

Perhaps you’ve exceeded the limit so much that the deleted images aren’t enough to upload new ones. This can happen because your paid packages have expired, or you’re using the old editor; or your social capital has dropped, thus lowering your disk space limit. The files won’t disappear, but you won’t be able to upload new ones.

    — Why has my storage space limit dropped?

Most likely your attached package has expired, or you’re using the old editor; or your social capital has dropped, thus lowering your storage space limit. The files won’t disappear, but you won’t be able to upload new ones.

    — Why is the available storage volume always changing? Sometimes it shows it’s 100% full, then it shows just 23%.

    • You may have switched between the old editor and the modern one and then switched back, so the available memory volume changed (the old editor has lower storage space limit).

    • Your social capital has changed, thus lowering your storage space limit.

    — How can I free up storage space?

If you’ve used up all the space available to you (total volume of files you uploaded is equal or larger than the disk volume available to you), to upload new files you’ll have to delete some of your old photos from the Scrapbook.
Please bear in mind that after photos/videos are deleted from albums, they won’t be displayed in the entries where you posted them.

    — I’m out of disk space, I don’t want to pay you or change any settings; how can I upload photos for free?

To upload new files you’ll have to remove some of your photos from the Scrapbook.
Please bear in mind that after photos/videos are deleted from albums, they won’t be displayed in the entries where you posted them.

    — If I run out of album space, will my old photos and videos get deleted or replaced by new ones?

Previously uploaded images and videos won’t get deleted and will remain available for viewing. Yet you won’t be available to upload new photos.

    — What should I do if I run out of space?

You can expand the limits of your disk space as explained earlier.
Previously uploaded images and videos won’t get deleted and will remain available for viewing.

    — How long will my files be stored by LJ?

They’ll stay there until you decide to delete them, or until your account is purged.

Attention! An account can purged for inactivity if its owner hasn’t logged into Live Journal for 2+ years, and their journal contains less than 3 entries.

    — Video uploading

Active users can upload up to 100Gb of video per month. Total space for video is unlimited. You can upload videos on the Video page.
