Frequently Asked Question #414. What is LiveJournal Maps? How do I add my entry to the map?

LJ Maps can be found at http://maps.livejournal.com/. The map allows you to see what other LiveJournal users around the world have to say and what pictures they have taken of these places. This can cover a wide variety of different things from information about cities, landmarks, national parks, resorts, theme parks, or any other attractions in the world.

How do I find entries on the map?

You can navigate the map by clicking on or zooming in on any of the numbered circles which appear on the map, and see entries and photos from these places in the column on the right side of the page. You can also search for places on the map by using the search box at the top of the LJ Maps page.

How do I add an entry to the map?

To add your entry to the map, click "Add Post" in the upper-right corner of the LJ Maps page, then just copy & paste the URL of your LiveJournal entry into the first field. Enter a location to the second field and the map will attempt to suggest a place to pin this to the map. If you want the pin in a different place, you can click and drag the pin to the spot you would like it to be on the map. Click ‘Submit’ and your entry will be added to the map! You can also add a post to the existing place by entering the URL to the "Add Post" window on the Place page.

What can I add to the map?

You can add any entries or pictures describing geographical locations and/or which provide useful information about the places you have visited or would like to go to. The content should be relevant to the geographical location selected on the map.

Any content which has no relevance to the geographical location selected on the map will be removed. Content which violates other LiveJournal Policies and the Terms of Service will be removed accordingly.

What are ‘Places?’

The Places menu allows you to filter the map by different types of attractions, such as Beaches, Airports, or Parks. You can return to viewing all locations by clicking the 'All Places' link in the Places menu.
