LiveJournal is committed to remaining a safe place to store and share your thoughts and the contents of your life. We value your privacy and believe in protecting your content and your right to free speech, and we understand our community is made up of creators, crusaders and people who champion the rights of others.
To help further these principles, we are donating $25 from the sale of each Permanent Account to charity. Upon completion of the transaction, the recipient will be able to choose from among the following organizations:
If you buy during the first 36 hours of the sale, we'll donate $25 of your purchase price among four charities:
- EFF: EFF broke new ground when it was founded in 1990 - well before the Internet was on most people's radar - and continues to confront cutting-edge issues defending free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights today.
- RAINN: The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.
- Creative Commons: Balance, compromise, and moderation - once the driving forces of a copyright system that valued innovation and protection equally - have become endangered species. Creative Commons is working to revive this system and build a layer of reasonable, flexible copyright.
- Witness: An international human rights organization that provides training and support to local groups to use video in their human rights advocacy campaigns. Beyond providing video cameras and editing equipment, WITNESS is committed to facilitating exposure for partners' issues on a global scale.
Credit Card Transactions: To determine net proceeds, LiveJournal will deduct only the actual expenses relating to the credit card transactions. Each credit card provider and payment processor charges varying fees. Typically the fee involves a fixed fee per transaction plus a percentage of the sale price. In determining net proceeds, LiveJournal will not deduct any other expenses, such as salaries of employees, cost of servers, or any other operating costs. The net proceeds will be donated by LiveJournal on its account and not on behalf of the purchaser. Purchasers will not be entitled to any tax credit or deduction otherwise applicable to charitable deductions by individuals.
