Happy Friday!

Things are just rolling along with me. Just got back from a doctor appointment and am alive. ;-) It is good to have professional confirmation of these kind of things every now and again.

I'm still raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association at https://www.joinmda.org/familyaffair08/worthywoman

This weekend, the youth at Zion are having a lock-in. The discussion topic will be CFW Walther's "Proper Distinction between Law and Gospel." A lot of adults haven't even read that, but Pastor Mallie and Pastor Teichmilller have spent enough time teaching the young people how to be theologians of the Cross.

And on the 14th, they are going scuba diving. (Of course, I told Dr. Annamanini that Pastor Mallie said that he would take me ***IF*** I could get one of my doctors to sign off on scuba diving with the tracheostomy. You haven't lived until you've watched a doctor trying hard not to laugh... until he realizes that I know how absolutely beyond it all that suggestion is. The poor man nearly fell off the stool at the suggestion...)

Do you have any idea how absolutely jealous I am of those kids? ;-)

Oh well.

Maggie, Lori's daughter, started the semester at University of Oklahoma. Her son is a senior in high school. Melanie and Audrey will start school at Klein Collins on Monday and Erica and Aaron are you in fifth and seventh grade.

I still think of all of them in diapers occasionally...

Tropical storm Edouard

Happy Tuesday!

Man, I had a long and productive day.

Okay, part of it was a little bit frustrating. Bookkeeping is just not one of my superstrengths. I can do it... but I really have to think about things like balancing my checkbook. (If I try to go fast, I will add when I should subtract... or something equally ridiculous.) Anyhow, I made the mistake with PayPal. It isn't going to really be a problem, I just have to take care of... subtracting something I should have added.

I just wish I could handle money like the federal government does...

Anyhow, I did a lot of piddly stuff yesterday, and didn't even notice the time until it was 7:00 p.m. (The only reason I noticed then used that I heard Mother watching Bill O'Reilly.)

My breathing was absolutely wonderful. It isn't today though... Edouardo is bringing in enough humidity to make a sauna feel like the desert! I'm indoors and can almost see the air.

But I found a wonderful new word: AUTODIDACT. It's what I want to be when I grow up!

Well... I will go back to bubbling like an aquarium. Tomorrow, I will see my pulmonary doctor. I had planned to go today, but for some reason doctors offices don't like to be open during tropical storms.

Go figure...

Happy Tuesday!

I think I have taken a break from writing long enough. I've accomplished nothing in that area for a couple of weeks. Yesterday, I tried to figure out where I was in "Inheritance of Hope," hoping that I can get back to it today.

Of course, maybe I'm a READER instead of a WRITER. I'm not ready to admit to that., though.

Some projects are just tootling along, though. I think that posting the two most recent sermons from Pastor Teichmiller at Zion Lutheran Church in Tomball Texas has me updated on the Zion website. I'll be checking to see if there is something I need to update there, but meanwhile... take a look at:
a.. July 13, 2008 - Romans 8:12-17 - CHILDREN OF GOD - Pastor Jerome Teichmiller

b.. July 20, 2008 - Romans 8:18-25 - OUR WEAKNESS, GOD'S STRENGTH - Pastor Jerome Teichmiller

Pastor Mallie's July 6 sermon is now posted

  • Jul. 12th, 2008 at 2:04 PM

Happy Friday!

I'm moving a little bit slower this week, but I have a good excuse. I got to spend part of the week with my oldest niece and nephew. While I had seen William in May, it has been over a year since I have seen Maggie. They are ages 16 and 18, and are growing into adults that I can not only like, but respect.

The most recent sermon posted is for July 6 and is at http://ziontomball.info/wordpress/2008/07/11/july-6-2008-%e2%80%94-matthew-1125-30-%e2%80%94-pastor-charles-mallie/

Since I've received a couple of comments about problems with earlier sermons, I've been working on trying to clear everything up. I'm 90% sure that all the links to Bible references and sermons are working now. If you run into problems, would you mind letting me know -- and it would be most useful if you could tell me which link isn't working and what it did weird.

Until next time... Lisa

cool and interesting quote

  • Jun. 17th, 2008 at 1:44 PM

Just as, while the holy apostles were still alive,2 it happened that false teachers insinuated perverted teachings into the churches in which the apostles themselves had planted the pure, unadulterated Word of God, so such false teachers were also inflicted on our churches because of our own and the ungrateful world’s impenitence and sin.

Happy Saturday!

I hope everything is going well with you. I'm okay, my lungs are a little bit bubbly...

Still, I'm having a good day. I'm accomplishing a few things, and I'm about to get ready to go read the e-mail and then work on my novel.

One of the biggest treats for today is the fact that I got to post Pastor Teichmiller's sermon for tomorrow a little bit early! I'm so excited, but then... I'm easily entertained sometimes. If you want to, go check it out:

Earlier this year, I bought this bread machine for mother off eBay. It's a pretty good transaction, and a lot of fun, but it IS used and came without the manual. Off I went on a quest to find the manual residing on the Internet.

I couldn't find it anywhere. The company no longer exists and I just couldn't find anything that resembled this particular breadmaker...

Eventually, a new acquaintance managed scan it and get it to me in .docx format, and I'm making it available to you.

Taking a Breather

  • May. 12th, 2008 at 5:16 PM

Happy Monday, Everyone!

MAN, did I have a rough week last week! After a perfectly good weekend for one of my niece's Confirmation Services and celebrations, I think the air turned to liquid concrete. I couldn't breathe, and when I did... I sounded like I inhaled an aquarium.

Yesterday and today are much better. The humidity is lower and whatever pollen was around... isn't anymore.

So I updated my church's website http://www.ziontomball.org/ and I will have to probably redo it again. It is way too gaudy. Still, I LIKE the season of Pentecost. It's really cool.

And I worked a little bit on my novel, and figured another way to work on it when I'm staying in bed more. I'm still testing the theory... if it works, I will tell you about it. I'm about 10,500 words into the novel. At this rate, I will finish it in 2255... but the least I'm trying.

I also ran into an old friend from elementary school again. :-) Hello, Susan!

I also learned about http://booksforsoldiers.com/

I've been trying to get a couple of websites listed at Google.  Apparently you need to have other websites pointing to the website... so that's what I'm trying to do.  Please click on these or something...

A Little Bit Better

  • Apr. 10th, 2008 at 2:06 PM

I don't know what's been wrong, I haven't been able to work on "Inheritance of Hope" for a while. Sometimes, it has been other events distracting me. Sometimes, it's been that I feel lousy and can't breathe.

Usually, I'm just not accomplishing what I want to...

It's not very professional. Full-time writers need to write, not talk about writing.

So... once again, I'm breaking my writing work into 10 minute batches. So far, I've accomplished 186 words.

It's a start!

I Had Been Taking a Break From Writing

  • Mar. 28th, 2008 at 3:47 PM

I guess you noticed, I haven't been here in a while. With all the pollen in the air, I'm having problems breathing. When I don't breathe well, I don't write well... which means that I don't have a whole lot to say here.

That's okay, I'll be trying to keep up more again.

I'm back...

  • Feb. 17th, 2008 at 2:06 PM

For a while after Aunt Margaret's funeral (and that spot on my leg that had such embedded infection), I got behind on my writing.  I'm beginning to catch up again -- 166 words today on "Inheritance of Hope"

But I'm wondering if there's anyone around who likes to read aloud?

Good (recent) theological books are, for the most part, inaccessible to
me.  I'm quadriplegic, and can no longer hold books.

Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped *DOES* make many books
available on four sided audiotape, I can get all the theological
nonsense I want.  (Joel Osteen comes to mind...)  Frankly, I don't want
nonsense!  I want books like:

words words words

  • Jan. 25th, 2008 at 3:41 PM

I added a few words to my novel, "Inheritance of Hope" and I'm hoping to add a few more today.  I also:
  • updated my webpage
  • and my newsletter
  • and started my January challenge at forward motion
But it is cold, and I want to go lay down and drink some hot chocolate with marshmallows

non-writing day

  • Jan. 17th, 2008 at 3:55 PM

I am so contrary!

I'm not getting any writing done this week, so I turned today into a non-writing day.  Work on most things that keep distracting me and I'm not allowed to do anything towards my fiction.

So... I found an interesting article with an interesting exercise.
  1. Find a well written article or a short story.
  2. Create an outline, preferably detailed.
  3. Set it aside for three days.
  4. Reconstruct it -- first in the style of the original author, then in the style of someone completely different.
Supposedly, Benjamin Franklin improved his writing style that way.

Also, I ran across an interesting PDF for writers: 396 books for writers

So naturally... all I can think about iis writing...

This week I haven't had any.  :-(

I'm getting over whatever has been bothering my lungs... but somehow I'm not accomplishing a lot with writing.  I've gotten about 60 words done on my novel.

Here's to a better week next week!

Writing challenges I'm working on

  • Jan. 5th, 2008 at 2:26 PM

Oh my goodness, 2008 looks like a challenging writing year! I can't begin to tell you how glad I am about that!

For starters, I'm continuing to work on finishing my first novel, "Inheritance of Hope." I've been working on that one for... I don't know how long. I've promised myself to do a minimum of 10 words per day, but I almost always do a lot more. For example, today I did 127 words.

Okay... I'm still the world's SLOWEST writer! The point is, I'm still working on it... regularly. :-)

Over at my favorite writer's site, Forward Motion, I've signed up again for the "2-Year Novel Workshop." It's always good to have one novel in the writing phase while you are daydreaming about another and getting it ready to go into the works.

If you want to join the fun with the community online, I think there will still be accepting people for a few more days.  Otherwise, you can get the books and work alone.

There is also a 500 word challenge going on right now: "A Whisper of History." I think it should be a lot of fun to take a real historical event and fictionalize it.  :-) I'm thinking of doing something on the Wendish immigration Texas, but maybe not...

If they count e-mail and blog postings, I may go with the "Ultra-Marathon 2008."
