A short story based on true (recent, as in a couple hours ago) events...
Jenni comes back to the dorm from polo, says a short "howdy" to her roommate KP as she's leaving for rugby practice, and settles in for some light anthro reading.. She quickly becomes bored with the material (despite its merits in content, spelling, and grammar.. more on that later). Jenni decides to take a shower. Due to the fact that she takes cold showers (not by choice) 3 to 4 times a week, it didn't surprise her that the water, despite being turned on full heat, was running like ice. She takes a deep breath and steps in cautiously.
However, before she can even get her hair wet (she's still trying to catch her breath from the cold shock) the lights in the bathroom go out. Jenni is standing there. in the shower. in the dark. about to die of a heart attack and hypothermia simultaneously.
after standing for a good 10 seconds in disbelief, she feels her way out of the bathroom, notices it's completely dead in the dorm as well, and fumbles in the pitch blackness for a towel. wondering what the hell is going on, she stumbles to the door, almost taking her toe off on the corner of the wall in the process. the hall is dark except for the emergency lights, and everyone's peering curiously out of their rooms...
Kala, Jenni's neighbor across the hall, helps Jenni find her flashlight in the dark recesses of her closet. with the dorm insufficiently illuminated, she dons her night-clothes and wanders into the hall to congregate with her other unfortunate dormies.
After about half an hour of small talk and hearing the entire break-up story of a girl she'd never set eyes on before, jenni decides to be anti-social and shuts herself up in her pitch-black room and read anthro (her current love-interest) by flashlight (how romantic, yes?).. after about 20 minutes of that, the electricity returns and all returns to normal just as KP walks in and partakes of the HOTNESS of the damn shower. jenni recognizes her rotten luck and turns on the television in utter defeat.
the good thing about today: jenni is getting a new cell phone because hers is completely defunct.! [happy day]
and now.. jenni will stop referring to herself in the third person.
buenas noches, senioritas. :)
