Mar. 27th, 2007 @ 09:19 am Best Buy acquires Speakeasy.net (major national ISP)
Wow.  I wouldn't have seen this one coming.   It seems that Best Buy has purchased Speakeasy.net -- one of my more favored national ISPs.

See this link for details.

Mar. 23rd, 2007 @ 02:18 pm Verizon wins lawsuit against Vonage
As seen here.

This is not good news at all.   Vonage has been providing a very low-price alternative to the absolute crap service that Verizon has provided all along with its telephone service.   Now it seems that some of that ride (if not all of it) could be over soon.   Time will tell!

If you want to play, please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me.

It can only be one word. No more.

Then copy and paste this in your journal so that I may leave a word about you.

Feb. 18th, 2007 @ 05:38 pm Happiness is an active vacuum?
Current Mood: happy
It's rather amusing to know that running the vacuum cleaner is an easy way to make my fiance happy.    It adds to the sense of fulfillment that goes beyond simply having a clean house.

Other updates:  MORE SNOW.   Ugh.   We're getting a "snow squall" according to WTOP news (a news-only radio station that covers the Washington, DC metropolitan area).  The good news is that this should be a brief snow shower..even if it is rather intense-looking right now!

Work is still work -- nothing new to report there!

As for my new car:   For the love of a Prius..   My fiance asked me, "Aren't you going to miss your Toyota Matrix even a little bit?" and I responded, "Not really.   I never felt a particular bond to it."   She asked me why that was and I shared the fact that the Toyota Matrix that I've been driving for the last 4 years or so was something that I'd kind of "settled" for.  It had most, but not all, of what I wanted in a car for myself.   When I found out that the trade value on my Matrix had dropped to the point where it was worth less than 1/2 of what I owed on it (thanks to a random person who decided to get into an accident with me) I knew that it was time to choose a new car.

The Prius has been a vehicle that I had a strong interest in since I first test-drove one several years ago (I'm not sure how long ago it was, at this point).    I was seriously impressed by it from both a "save the world" perspective as well as from the "I have a technologically-sophisticated car to drive around in.. yay!" perspective.   At any rate, I decided to look into the monthly cost of the car plus its related insurance cost.   I got very lucky in that the monthly loan payment plus insurance payment was only slightly (as in no more than $20) higher than my payments were for the Matrix.

Well.. I've rattled on long enough for one post, I think.   I hope that everyone has had a great weekend!   Next weekend will be quite eventful for me since I will have my parents and my fiance's mother visiting.   This will be the first time that they will have met, so we're all looking forward to this time together!!

Feb. 6th, 2007 @ 09:16 pm Updates..
Working (living?) the life of an IT consultant catering to the Small-to-Midsize Business (SMB) market is a rather hard but rewarding thing.
In other news, the wedding plans continue on!

O.O

I've rambled on a lot longer than I thought and I'm sure that I could go on and on about this stuff.   I'll stop here kind of abruptly since I need to get back to working around the house before the bed summons me to its warm covers.. I hope that everyone who still sees my posts is doing well and know that I have not completely forgotten about you.

Best Regards to all..

<edit>
One last thing before I wander off -- I bought a new car last weekend!

The 2007 Toyota Prius.. it's a fun car to drive.   More on that some other time. :)

If you aren't getting ENOUGH attention from people in this world, click here! The "BodyPerks" product is pretty much guaranteed to garner a TON of attention for you..

...

With that said, I find the comments to be particularly hilarious! So how many of you ladies would actually use (or consider using) such a product? Just curious!

Current Music: The Bobs, "A Capella Choir in the Sky"
Folks, if you have any affection for performance music or barbershop music or any form of music that involves creative uses of voices and only voices as instruments.. Then you owe it to yourself to check out "The Bobs"!!! I also got an introduction to a pianist unlike any other I've heard in a long time. His name is Bob Malone. He has humor and a sharp wit that shines brightly through his performances. He was an excellent choice to accompany The Bobs when they performed one of the most unique versions of "Rhapsody in Blue." It was so incredible that it sent [info]silmaril launching out of her seat to issue forth a VERY well-earned standing ovation. I joined her after a few dumbfounded music of "HOLY CRAP..that was -good-.."

Yeah. It was just that good. *happy sigh* I am presently listening to The Bobs' CD "The Best of The Bobs: 20 Songs 20 Years". Nothing is quite so pleasing as listening to those voices..

Many thanks to [info]blueeowyn and [info]javasaurus for inviting me to join them along with [info]silmaril. That was an entirely enjoyable evening. You folks are irresistably wonderful! Thank you, thank you, thank you...

I look forward to other fun times as the future comes upon us!

Apr. 4th, 2005 @ 09:39 am I am a lucky man, indeed. :)
Current Mood: happy
After a year or two of half-heartedly looking at matchmaking websites, I finally decided to "get serious" with at least one of them. In the course of my experimentation with such sites, I visited such places as Lavalife, Yahoo! Personals, Match.com, AmericanSingles.com, and, eHarmony.com! Of them all, I rank eHarmony as "Best in Class" followed by Match.com and then Yahoo! Personals. The other sites had something about them that just did not agree with me.

At any rate.. My search has finally "borne fruit" so-to-speak! I have met someone who's become very important to me and I just wanted to share my happiness with the world! I do have a couple of pictures of both of ourselves as well as some of just her.. but I will ask her permission before I post them here.

My subject states exactly how I feel. I am truly blessed.

Mar. 2nd, 2005 @ 09:15 am Nanaca Crash!
Current Mood: amused
Very rarely do I come across a well-written super-addictive web-based game. This one is at the top of my list, now.

"Nanaca Crash" is a Flash-based game in which you watch an arrow bounce up-and-down to determine the initial trajectory on which your impact against the "ball" (some male character from a random shoujo anime series). When the arrow reaches where you want it to go, push the mouse button and hold it for an extra second or two to adjust how much "power" you put into the strike.

While the man is flying through the air, he will be victim to gravity and bounce up-and-down as he goes flying across the landscape. Along the way, he will bump into a variety of characters. One makes him stop all forward motion, ending the game. One will block him from being impacted by other characters. One will change his trajectory from upwards to downwards. One will slow him down. The others will give him a BOOST and kick him up into the air to continue his flight! If you see the word "special" appear in red, be sure to click your mouse button for a super-big boost (or combo-boost)!! Additionally, if you see the word "special" appear above the character sketches on the right-hand side of the gameplay window, you can click on that "button" to get an aerial boost. (This can vary between a boost upward or a smashing downward-aimed blow!

Give "Nanaca Crash" a try and see how much fun it is for yourself!

Feb. 10th, 2005 @ 08:12 am A Story of Affirmation and Love
Current Mood: sleepy
Considering the general "rep" that LJ has for carrying journals full of angst, it is nice to see posts that confirm that there are those who know how to write about love in their journals.

[info]dementedcraving's journal was where I found the link to this journal entry. I'm glad that I clicked through and read it. My interpretation of [info]catelin's post is that she wanted to share her story of love, acceptance, tolerance and understanding to the world. Based on what she said, I appreciate my own parents all the more. My folks raised me in a similar (although not identical) way. They were accepting, patient and wise whenever I had questions. They helped me to accept the differences in others, no matter what.

And that is a beautiful thing, IMO.

Jan. 28th, 2005 @ 09:56 pm A bit of "Pot"ty humor for all Tolkien fans out there..
Current Mood: amused
I was reading through [info]annathepiper's LJ when I found a comment from [info]mistwolf. I felt prompted to check out her (correct me if I am wrong here..) journal and found the following entry:

"So I am so tempted to write really bad parody fanfic...

J.R.R.(Just Really Relaxin') Toking's _Lord of the Hemp_, in which Fro-do, the short dude with hair that won't quit, and his faithful sidekick Da Man go on a quest for the ultimate in herbal goodness. Along the way
meeting up with their friends Pimpin and Mary-Jane, a couple who trade their favors for hits...

I figure it would have to be three stories, Fellowship of the Hemp, The Two Tokers, and the Return of the Pot King...

See, this is the crap that I wake up with at 5am. *sigh*"
