down-town
soooooooooo............. unless something goes terribly wrong, i'll have a new apartment!! it's on the top floor of hillree manor on bellevue & mercer, and i can see all the way from lake union to the space needle to downtown (broken up, of course). so i'm excited about that. i'm less excited about cornell & associates proving themselves once again to be total bastards, and having still not called me (oops! your 5 business days are up.) about the apartment i applied for at p+s's place. (sorry p+s, but the hillree is better than the kinda small and dark unit i was offered.) ANYWAY.

This Also Means That In A Few Weeks I'll Need Some Strongies To Help Me Move. the worst part? i'm fat and weak now. so this can't be a three-man job like my last move was.

love to you all. i feel like my lithium is barely working.

firefly/serenity
2/5. i mean, i found it very memorable, but i didn't think it was very good. the idea of future/wild-west was pretty contrived, and we never got a good introduction to why the hell 500 years in the future looked like that. (dark angel was better than that.) some of the characters were great (jayne, kaylee, shepherd), but most were under-explored (inara, mal) or downright forgettable (walsh, that first officer lady). and the scripts and plotlines weren't up to my expectations coming from joss whedon and jane espenson. the reavers are very interesting, and i kept wanting more exploration of them -- the way a sci-fi show should do it. and there are a lot of places where it falls down for sci-fi. so, yeah: 2/5, ok.

client-side internet connectivity check
i know some of you out there have banged your head against this, too. but rejoice! you can just use the javascript "Image" object. you can use its "onerror" and "onload" event handlers to let you know whether or not the image out on the internet was able to be loaded or not. so you just need to pick an Image.src that you can trust to be there, and you have your access check.
it took me months of background-thinking to come up with this of this simple, simple method. ♥

this morning's angst passed as i actually got into my buglist and said hello to a few new folks (like l!). but i still got a huge smile and feeling of relief when i got into my car at 2pm. and i even got here in time for the ups guy! i ordered a new military-style cap from goorin, but this one has a common problem (for me) of coming down a little too far and squishing my ears out like yoda. sew... we'll see.
now i'm wondering what time i should leave ballard to get to my doctor's at 5pm. because it's not *quite* rush hour, but i should still probably give it a little room. ("americano with extra room")
tonight?

shoes shoes shoes
the other week, i bought some rad slip-ons from k-mart for $10, and i've been wearing the hell out of them. so much so that they're already falling apart. (tears!)
and while nowhere near as cool as the NBs that reg got, i picked up some new black-n-silver running shoes to replace the rancid ones i've been wearing for four years now.
and for this post, i will forget that CSS exists. mainly because i have to go back to work and do way too much css starting monday. this post is about shoes, not css! silly rabbits.

i feel like i should post. yesterday r and i went shopping in the ballard boutiques and it was awesome. i didn't get anything, but ran into an old friend. i also learned new skills. then when l came home, we all went to zayda buddy's, a new midwest-themed restaurant on leary, and i had a damn good reuben and discovered that blatz beer is totally delicious. and i have a really aggressive plan for re-tracking my life this summer that may or may not pan out. i hope it does.
in other news.....? i'm replaying windwaker, and still suck at phantom hourglass. however, r and i had a blast playing its battle mode.

video games
i fucking love nintendo. everyone loves the virtual console on their wii, but i love even more that it can fully double as a super gamecube. i'm sure i've written about it here before, but i have a zelda anthology from a few years back with all the console (not handheld) pre-gamecube games except for the snes one, and so i've been playing "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time" again, and god DAMN is it big! it's map is relatively compact, and yet it's taken me weeks to get to ganon (who is so damn hard in this game...). anyway, it was really awesome to play again. now i feel like pulling out "...Windwaker" again, but i've seriously played it about 5 times. on my walk this morning i was remembering with much clarity exactly how the game begins. then there's "The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask" which i've attempted at least once and found too hard to play. i'm really bad at timed games, and so the "must complete the dungeon in 24 zelda-hours" part of majora's mask really hurt me. i'm having a similar issue with "The Legend Of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass", with all it's hourglass stuff.
k got me "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney", and it's pretty fucking rad. i loved the hell out of "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All", and apollo justice is like a supercharged version. the phoenix wright games were great text-based-adventures, but really didn't let you do much other than click on parts of the screen to examine an area, and would only show you a picture and a description of anything you found. in apollo justice they added a 3D engine, so you can examine evidence 2π, as well as do 3D mockups of your crime theories in the courtroom. hella cool! and the writing is still just as great as ever (for instance, all the "panties" quotes i twittered).
what games are you guys liking? and which zelda should i replay next? should i go all the way to twilight princess? or should i go further in the past?

i feel like today is my natural birthday, because mother nature is giving me this present of warmth and sunniness! seriously, the 70 degree day usually comes at the end of march, so i was all worried that we weren't going to get it this year. this day needs to have a special name, because it does show up pretty regularly on this cusp of spring. anyway, i'm just happy to be in my shorts. it makes me miss stalin.

apparently the ACLU of Washington is now following me on twitter. (what?!)

also, i had that most excellent phlebotomist again today, and she made my blood draw fairly enjoyable! crazy. now i have to decide whether or not i can actually go to see the dillinger + bled show tonight... i hate going to rock shows alone, constantly getting sized-up.

and did any of you try to get the radiohead presale tickets? there was no luck in this household. xoxoxoxox

i just had the most wonderful blood draw ever. i have a serious fear of little needles that go into my blood veins, so i generally almost faint (or faint) whenever i have to get poked. now that i'm on lithium and have to have regular blood checks, it's like god's playing a joke on me every single time... but my phlebotomist today was so sweet! she took me back to a room to have me lie down, and just chatted with me, getting me so distracted that i thought the feeling from the needle was just her hand holding my vein in place, so it was over before i really had time to freak out. and she gave me some apple juice, even though i didn't really need it. A+! seriously -- why isn't there a "ratemyphlebotomist.com"?

in other news, i've done some things. i need to make a cool picture post about the trip kate and i took to hillsboro, or just to go to sonic drive-in and have their awesome slushes. there was also adlauralble's birthday, which was much fun even though h and i got soaked in the rain! also, there are Only 4 Days Until Galactica. also, there are only 13 days til my birthday. 15 days til i go back to work. etc. i've also been playing my electric guitar, totally just fucking around with the awesome amp i'm borrowing from r -- it has built-in chorus effect!!!! oh, and with video games, i beat "phoenix wright, ace attorney: justice for all", but instead of heading straight to "trials and tribulations", i'm playing "ocarina of time" again. i forgot just how HUGE of a game "ocarina of time" is. it feels bigger than "twilight princess".

thinking of you
jeremy martin. your silly hat is still on top of my television. lord help me when i go HD.
today was a weird day to have therapy, but whatever. i need to remember the lessons i learned from you:
1) TAKE LESS SHOWERS
2) cooking is good
3) not being able to stand still is totally ok.

anyway. i probably won't go to that chac thing -- it looks a little structured. anyway. i love you everybody. i'm still depressed, but that should resolve itself. today makes me feel cold.

so i made a little Battlestar Galactica Season 4 Countdown widget, and thought i'd share it with other bsg-obsessed mac jockeys out there.
in other news, i'm totally depressed.

[edit: you'll probably also want this battlestar truetype font for maximum awesomeness]

comcastic
for the past year, i've had intermittent flickering of my cable. when it started i was bound and determined to fix it myself, but no amount of changing out the coax made any effect. it was only certain stations, too, and by-and-large, they were stations that i didn't care about (vh1 bore the brunt of it), so i let the problem go on its cyclic way... but this past week it started to make the military channel inaccessible, and sci-fi was even flickering sometimes!!! so i finally made an appointment.
the dude that came was really nice and pretty quiet as he worked, and he showed me how to get to my cable box's diagnostic status screen! (you turn off the box, and really quickly hit "select".) it clearly showed that i had an snr (signal to noise ratio) that was about 27db -- totally unacceptable. the dude was great, and checked all the coax from the box completely out to the street, replacing heads of cables and full cables until he got my snr all the way up to 33db -- totally in the "good" range. and i even got a new cable box! it's so tiny; the same form factor as the old motorola "surfboard" cable modems.
now "comcastic" no longer means "craptistic" for me+kitty. and we can rest assured that Galactica Day (APRIL 4!) will be AWESOME!!

totally, totally awesome. my expectations were pretty low (this is stargate after all), so i was blown away by how good it is. it's actually good, and not that special-dorky kind of "stargate good", especially in the writing and directing -- both thanks to robert c cooper. in fact, it might actually be good enough to watch with non-gateheads. YEAH.

in other news, medications are still in flux, thus so is my psyche. ♥
