“Bloggish” users' community

Hey y'all! I'm kind of new at LJ and I have a question. I have a Plus Account, and I was wondering if I can use a personalized mood theme, and how can I do it?

This one is for av8rmike - last week you posted part of a print function to hide the date and time on entries for the s2 Expressive style that watchmebe requested.

I want to rework that code for Bloggish so I can (finally) change one of my entries (the sticky post at the top of anti_aol - it's had the wrong date on it for two years! - and I want to take the modified-for-Bloggish code and publish it as a new tutorial on s2_bloggish. In another community you have said that the code requires me to "override the RecentPage::print_body() function, since Bloggish doesn't print the date inside the entry" - could you give me the complete code I'll need?

Also, before I forget - if I use the code you give me to hide the date and time, can I still keep my top post on top (assuming I don't change it's current date - Dec. 11, 2008)?

I'm a fairly new user to Bloggish (previously used Flexible squares) and I am fairly familiar with at least copying and pasting things into my customized layer[s] to change and modify values.

This is my hopeful layout, but I have the following problems:

[1] The Sidebar starts BELOW the entries, instead of being right beside them
[2] I appear to have a repeat link to view Previous Entries
[3] My meta-data is repeated at the bottom

It also does the same thing to my friends-page.

This is the layer for the customized Bloggish layout.

I used the CSS from this entry: http://community.livejournal.com/thefulcrum/4986.html; and only changed the header so that it would show my current banner (at 720x270px).

I pasted the CSS into my theme layer using this entry: http://community.livejournal.com/s2_bloggish/8637.html

I switched the location of the metadata and changed the text to pictures via this entry: http://community.livejournal.com/s2_bloggish/2720.html

Lastly, is there any way to format the Tags so that the word 'Tags' is replaced by an image, and to line it up under my metadata, next to my mood picture, like it looks here:

I lined it up like that in Flexible Squares, and I was wondering if the coding for the layer worked the same way...

How do I get rid of the white lines that are at the very top and bottom of the layout? I've tried every code I could think of but I'm still stumped on it.

My layout for creyr looks fine in Firefox, but in IE, the side bar is at the bottom of the page. This is the CSS.

Alright, I'm having a problem using the Bloggish layout on Insanejournal.

This is the layout I'm using, this is the preview.

This is what I have so far. My problem? Getting rid of the black lines both in the header and on the side bar.

I couldn't find anywhere in the code to make them transparent, so I was wondering if there was some way to 'white them out' so to speak?

1. Hide the title so I can get the header right down near the top of the entries.
2. Change the size of the bloggish layout to fit a header?

How would I go about adding some custom header graphics to my journal? Preferably where the journal title and subtitle is, from edge to edge of the page - this is what I mean.

I'm using the Folio S2 style, the CSS of this style can be found here.

*edit* - Okay, I've followed what av8rmike said, but now there's a part of the skin overlapping the image. Also, is it possible to make more vertical space for the banner and hide the title/subtitle?

the sidebar keeps appearing at the bottom of all my entries.

i'm new to bloggish and more of a flexible squares and smooth sailing person so i cannot understand much of its features... am not that good with css either.

I'm attempting to add a little bit to the Bloggish code that will make a header on tags pages. That is, when someone clicks on a tag called 'books' and sees the page with all the entries tagged 'books', there should be a header at the top of the page that reads 'books'.

You'd think this would be simple, but I keep running into brick walls.

My first thought was to do it with some basic regular expression matching on the url, which has the tag name in it. Unfortunately S2 doesn't seem to like environmental variables, so I can't get the url, and also doesn't seem to like regular expressions!

I've been fishing through the S2 core layer and documentation to see if there's a variable or function I can use for this, but I have yet to find anything that seems like it will work.

So I am wondering if anyone here has any ideas on how I might get S2 to cough up the page url and whether it's even possible to extract the tag name from that.

ETA: Answered! Thanks, once again, to the wonderful camomiletea. Finished code will be posted to this entry when I get it running.

ETA2: The solution is to do one of the following things.

If you are using your own layout layer, go down to RecentPage::print_body and paste the following code below the 'if nav.backward or nav.forward' section.

If you are using a theme layer, copy all of RecentPage::print_body from the public copy of Bloggish and then paste the following code in just below the nav.forward/nav.backward section.

If you wish to make the header an actual html header, you may wish to put H2 or H3 tags around the Tag: $tag_name.

I'm having some problems with my layout. It's this one right here.
I'm trying to see if you can change the position of the contents in the sidebar and to see if you can cloud the tag list. Can any of this be done without a theme layer?

I've been working on a new style based on Bloggish with a little inspiration from Expressive, and I'm running into a peculiar problem. I wondered if anyone else had seen this or knows what's up.

I have added two modules (one for layout credits and one for a second free text module), and they are not showing up when the journal is viewed. Even when I call them by name, in prop-init, instead of by variable, they are not appearing on the journal page. The layer compiles, so it doesn't seem to be a syntax issue, and I copied the form of those modules directly from the existing free text box, which is appearing just as it should.

The modules in question are customtext2 and layercredit, they're down at the bottom of the module functions, under customtext and before pagesummary.

I've looked through the documentation, but nothing mentions needing to do anything more to get a function working that to write it and call it. I am at a loss why these are not working, and only hope someone here will have a clue to give me.

1. I used coding found in a tutorial to remove links from the comment/reply bars. However it didn't seem to work. The remove a link one did but remove track this and tell a friend did not for me.

Hide "Tell a friend"

I tried it without the *'s as well and removed the "hide "track this"" part of it and it still didn't work. Is anything else suppoed to be changed on it? Or is it just not supported with my version if IE?

2. Also on http://asylums.insanejournal.com/haunted_roads/ under the picture there are two -- and I'm not quite sure why. Does anyone know what I did to cause those or how they can be removed?

3. Is there a way to take the time stamp from the bottom and put it up by the date? If so is there a way to remove it from the bottom where the links to reply and comment are?

4. and lastly is there a way to take the "user info, friends, recent entries, archive" links and put them under the header in a line going horizontal?

4a. Or if there isnt a way to do that is there a way to put a header above those links? Something like how the Tag one looks with tags beneath it.

Hi. I previously used Opal (one of the OSWD suggestions) and adored it.

This is because it uses up the entire width of the screen.

I have been looking at Bloggish and wanting it for ages, but there is one thing I must be able to do to be able to use it - I can’t have it only 640px wide! I would like to make the thing a 15%/85% split (sidebar/body) of the full width of the browser screen.

I usually implement this in framesets, but as LJ isn’t made of frames, and if it is I can’t find the chang-y-thingy anywhere, I’m lost. Could someone please help me? I don’t want to have to scale every single JPEG image i’ve ever posted to my journal to 400px wide.

here's an example of a layout that uses tinyicons instead of the LJ defaults: , , etc.

I want to grab the tinyicon CSS for my layout (Bloggish/Fleur, with some customizations), but neither me nor the designer can get it to work! it's very mysterious, as this same code will display correctly for me with other people's layouts. so I'm assuming the problem is either with my changes (my CSS appears if you view source on my journal) or with Bloggish in general.

does anyone have experience using tinyicons with Bloggish? any idea how to solve this problem? thanks...

Hello, all! This is my first post here (I've only used Flexible Squares in the past!) and I have two, unrelated questions.

1) Is there any way to have the links in the .module-viewlinks section show up in a horizontal line (as opposed to the vertical list)? I have tried using the code disply:inline, but haven't been successful. I have a feeling the problem is related to specifying the widths of alpha and beta but I haven't been able to figure out a way to stretch the links' module out to overlap the other column. Any thoughts?

2) Is there any way to have the .content-nav strip show up only on the bottom of the column (instead of the top and the bottom)?

I know this is possible with flexible squares (link), but is there a way in Bloggish to make extra modules in the sidebar viewable only to the journal owner and friends? Any help much appreciated :)
