    Thank you Rains and friends...
Here is a little something I found in Rain's Journal she picked up from a friend of hers.

    Leave your name and.....

    1. I'll respond with something random about you.
    2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
    3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
    4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
    5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
    6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
    7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
    8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal.

So why have an LJ when you hardly ever write?
So why write one when no one hardly ever writes back? I mostly now keep this in order to keep in touch with friends on here that I normally do not see/speak to often. It's unfortunate that it comes to that some times, but I'd rather have that, than nothing at all. Most of my writing seems to be in other friends's comment sections, heh.

The hurricane article is on here. I have not completed it, because I wanted it to be funny and it turned out serious. You can tell what I was going for by the title of it. I am proud of that title. Not original, but funny. Also, who wants to read something serious from "Rhynn"? Everyone bares their own crosses, right? Bah. I'll keep looking at the hurricane entry, when I feel like it.

The Adventures of Rita, aka Gilbert II: Evacuation Boogaloo
    I: Why Leave?
As with Gilbert those many years ago, I figured the storm would not hit us. Turns out I was right again, but the news kept showing predictions that it would head closely enough to warrant leaving. I remained stubborn until I heard about mandatory evacuations. Crap. Great timing! This will help with the job hunt, I thought. Well, I thought a lot of things. Those relating to the evacuation, I will share with you here:

First off, where am I going? Well, that was taken care of. Mom-family* were staying in a Bed and Breakfast in Liberty Hill near Austin. So many people I know were close by, it's a shame some of us didn't hook up. Austin is a cool town for that, as is San Antonio. Damn.

Second, what and how much to pack? This brings up that deep philosophy, "just what is truly valuable to you?" and "what could you live without?". The latter being a bit extreme and could be thankfully avoided, I did extremely well in the former and there won't need to be much on it in the Lessons Learned section. Pictures cannot be replaced. My CPU** which has pictures and work I have done on it, was taken for that simple fact as well. Clothes? Bah, the ones on my feet (sandals) and combat boots, which can be used in nice settings or hiking/crawling through rubble, are really all that is necessary. One nice shirt and a few t-shirts are good enough for this time of year. Really. Anything else you can buy again and closer to the trend curve. My 2 .45's came along in case of life-threatening situations (hey, panic/evacuations have those). The Basics (toiletries, underwear, etc) rounded off the mix nicely. I left almost all of my CDs, and all of my DVDs, electronics, art (I know the artists, can ask them again), could all be bought again. I would hate to loose it all, as I left almost everything, but it really brought home just how much of it I didn't really need. This will help in my future planned "minimalist" apartment.

Third, I could have stayed in Houston anyway, just going to someone else's house, but I will reiterate my attitude towards electricity, and A/C (certain pets I am allergic to excluded here). If paintballing, hiking, camping, exploring, etc. I EXPECT heat, dirt, sweating, stinking, grime, grit, blood, bruises, exhaustion to the point of almost puking, etc. and love it all when involved in such endeavors. When I go HOME, I EXPECT air-conditioning and the comforts of home. Sleeping in heat, not generated by another body, is a very restless sleep when at a place of residence. I can handle it, sure, but when I could have left and slept in comfort AND assured safety, how is that a bad thing? (I jumped out of a plane, I am not afraid of danger, folks).

Fourth, I'll quote myself from elsewhere on why I should have stayed:
"Part of me really wants to stay. To either laugh when it doesn't go here, or gyrate along the coast against the storm as it comes in, screaming at it, "you can't take DIS, awww yeah, I got ALL dis thrustin' at ya, what YOU gonna do Rita?! Huh? Aww yeah. An eye for an eye, baby, aww yeah." Not as hot as a hurricane named, Katrina. Good name. I wanted to be on the beach for that one. I'm too much man for the hotness of Katrina, though. She'd have run in to Houston if I were there, humpin at the storm front, aww yeah." 'nuff said. Even the threat of this and Rita ran north of home. Aww yeah.

    II: Leaving town
I hate traffic. I hate driving***. With that in mind, the story begins:
Mom and Meme met me at a gas station nearby. Took them 1 hour to get 25 minutes away from their house. There was still gas at the station so I filled up and went inside to look for some form of breakfast so I wouldn't "Hellfire-and-Brimstone"****. I found a not-so-tasty ham and cheese sammich that you find in such stations. However,I was reminded by the girl behind the register helping her father, who wore a shirt denoting her as a basketball team member, just how attractive Middle Eastern women can be--though no Rudi Bakhtiar or Tami Stronach. Well, at least that was worth the bad sammich.
Imagine trying to caravan, even just two cars, in heavy traffic. Not just any bad traffic, evacuation-traffic. Yeah. I tried to convey, while hand gesturing to Mom ahead of me, "turn NOW, No RIGHT RIGHT, SLOW DOWN so the bastard doesn't get between us!" while trying to call cell-to-cell*****, applying some tight-spaced aggressive driving, and a lot of cussing (no, not to Mom and Meme, alone in my car). It all worked quite well to keep us together for about 99.9% of the time. I'm good. I'm impressed with myself looking back on that. We received directions that the Beltway West was not moving so we took the East route. Then, a call was made that, "no, it was the West LOOP". If you must go the main roads, just go in the CORRECT direction next time. More driving entertainment followed and 4 hours later we were at 290. Yes, that's a 50min, 1 hr drive in 4 hours (or 5 for Mom and Meme).

** CPU: Central Processing Unit, but I use it to mean my entire computer stand/box without the monitor, keyboard, other peripherals. If strained for space, I could have taken my just my harddrive.
*** I know I have a nice car, I figure that you might as well have a more pleasant form of misery
**** I impressed a rather brooding friend one day a few years ago while in traffic. He just looked at me in awe, seriously. After a while of stop-n-go driving I began to spew forth new versions of cuss word combinations with rantings of blood falling from the sky and basically pouring out from the cars in front of us. I spoke of Rapture and brimstone falling from the sky and clearing the way before us. I hate traffic and the idiot cows who don't ACCELERATE when in front of it to get it less congested.
***** cell phones are almost useless/unusable during "crisis" times due to network overflow, uncharged phones due to people forgetting their chargers, not having phone chargers, etc...

    The Neverending Story
I highly recommend the book (in addition to the first movie). The movie ends not even halfway through the book. There is so much more being said, that is best illustrated in words. Though, as in the movie, G'mork (black wolf hunter in the movie) is not seen nor referred to as much, G'mork is more evil than the movie illustrated. There is more to The Nothing, and even it is made more eerie via the book. Bastain is not the cute little kid the movie portrayed him to be. He is far more vulnerable. The Childlike Empress--played by Tami Stronach in the movie (you can google her-she's 32 now. Looks great)? So much more to her, and yet still a mystery. The horrible second movie takes elements from the second part of the book, though the book is not horrible like that second movie. Michael Ende, the author, is trying to say something else with the book. It's up to you to interpret it as you see fit.

    Car/Truck Suspensions
For the two or three of you that read this, remember to look under a truck before you, or someone you know, buys one. Car manufacturers have been ripping us off for YEARS with this brilliant engineering marvel found on HORSE CARRIAGES, http://www.springmaker.com/Leafsprings.htm
Don't support hyper-capitalism which uses "Patriotism" to make you feel bad for not wanting to be ripped off. Buy a better suspension, even if you have to go foreign to do it at a reasonable price.

*some time later* Awwww, grandpa, you had a stroke? Well, I guess we won't walk today, then.

    Hahahahah.

"This was swallowed by the Western media"
"Officially, the Soviets pressed forward with the prepared line: They had never been in the moon race. They had no program to land men on the moon. They would never risk the lives of Soviet citizens in such a dangerous exercise when robots could do the job just as well. This was swallowed by the Western media. Walter Cronkite gravely informed the American people in the 1970's that the money spent on Apollo was wasted, since the 'Russians had never been in the race after all'. "---from http://www.astronautix.com/articles/theghoax.htm

Why is it I am not surprised? The media, and those who blindly follow the media majority, have wanted to embrace anti-American propaganda for as long as I remember. It's almost as if, somewhere within our schools, it has been taught that in order to be a good journalist, one must not JUST question everything (which can be healthy), but believe everything else said by OTHERS if you are to be a truly informed and enlightened journalist. Our public is, for the most part, tools...and have been, to FOREIGN propaganda reported to us by those who even today, are our enemies.

So what if you win a trip back HOME ?
From an email earlier, in fewer sentences: "Just a random thought...Price is Right is on and a woman is trying for a chane for a vacation to Atlanta and it struck me... I wonder if many people on those shows win a trip to their OWN home town." Do they have different travel packages in that case?
