Subject:donnybrook between two gangstas and a bunch of merry pranksters.
Time:10:27 pm.
Mood:fight.
Music:neon neon - dream cars.
i sort of wished i did this all nine years of coachella but i got more than half of them at least. and i guess livejournal wasn't around when coachella first started... but yes... in my own yearly formatting tradition of 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 it's time for recap: coachella 2008... hi.

yes, where do we begin? this was my esther's first full coachella. she's only gone once before for one day thanks to the giant drags and she liked it then; but she had to get in a car all the way back home that night so tiring i assume! this time we took 3 days off each and took our merry time of it. dennis, esther and i drove up thursday afternoon and lounged by the pool all day. oh yes, waterslide and all that goodness. then that night we got some random italian food and off to the infamous filter party. yes, the one, um, last, year, um, D&D got the shaft! this year, once again, the party was all kinds of fun dancing around in circles and balkin' at the long lines for schwag... and then after we were in line and stuff, tren way's dak, stephanie, esther and i got in a brawl with these four big cholos from san diego. ask us about it sometime! but yeah sadly d&s broke/lost their glasses and they had to go back to LA to be able to see. esther was the hero and drove them there but dennis drove back. i don't think he slept at all that night, right? aw.

friday
- woke up eventually and got a mexican lunch
- used our closed road madison route
- the breeders were, um, kind of off key or something?
- tegan and sara were totally on and totally cute as usual. right when i thought they would go through a set without one of their rants right on cue they talked about sunscreen and needing sunscreen under H&M clothes or something? aww they're cute.
- the national were all kinds of epic goodness and i can't wait to see them again slightly more proper at the REMMMNAT'L show.
- aphex twin actually showed up and played random randomness for the masses to randomly dance to... or something close to dancing. was enjoyable though.
- i've never seen the verve but they played a good set of hits and new songs. i wanted to hear 'on your own' real bad but they still sounded good and played enough of the songs i wanted.
- fat boy slim was good but either i need to be more familiar with his body of work or he needs to work with his hits more. still i danced! yoah!
- i drove home like i ended up doing every night. the parking lots were very random day to day and either we'd get out super fast or very slow. this night very slow.

saturday
- ummm... slow to wake up... we got some am/pm? yum.
- we caught a bit of MGMT but sightlines and packt-ness deterred our full enjoyment.
- we left early and caught boys noize!!! yoaah! best dancing of the whole weekend despite being daytime! i hope he comes around soon so E and I can dance some more. danse danse danse! UH!
- stephen malkmus and the dirty jicks were good and i swear those jam session songs are good live but not as great on record. i wanted to hear a random pavement song... but none. i hope pavement plays next year!!! but most likely they'll come around in 2010.
- death cab for cutie were solid like a heavy poop. good feeling on your body but it happens pretty regularly.
- kraftwerk from close up was awesome. they played their relative hits and it was a lot better than last time where i just sat down and saw them from the side. their cover of coldplay's clocks was awesome!!! --- ha!
- portishead were amazing. beth's voice was sooo on and soooo good. yes please. wika wika wow! i don't even know what to say other than 'amazing' to be honest.
- prince was unstoppable. he covered creep without the self loathing and no one would ever call him out on it. just awesome. come together. yeah. and he ended at like 1am!? haha.
- we got out fast...
- we got some del taco on the way home and these two dudes that could have been bill and ted looked at each other and said, "taco sauce", or something. it was weird but terribly funny.
- ...and fell asleep even faster.

sunday
- we all lazed around waking up LATE and missing a couple things i wanted to see. oh well.
- metric was our first full act and emily was energenic and fun as usual.
- a-trak was jamming on the turntables with a healthy fill of kanye but i was lost on kid sister who failed to impress me at all.
- love and rockets were fucking awesome!!! i loved the set and they sounded really good up there. they seemed to have a genuinely good time about it. i kinda wish they would maybe tour more or heck write some new stuff... ha!
- roger waters was epic. the dark side of the moon stuff sounded great. the pig was amazing and went up forever it seemed. pink floyd needs to reunite! but close enough! they have a pyramid too!
- justice were good again but seemed slightly off with their timing this time. too much randomness i think. they should play their songs a bit more. the coming of an epic beat and being able to jump up with your fist all on cue is fun!
- and that was it.

tina and stephanie left pretty much right away on monday to see their rents. dennis, esther and i just did the lounge by the pool thing ALL DAY with mexican food after. SO GOOD. you definitely need buffer days to enjoy coachella. when you're all tired and rushed it really messes you up i'd say. but yeah fun times once again. next year is the 10 year anniversary and i'll assume they will make you KNOW IT. i'll make a note to wake up earlier so i can se more acts that's for sure. i hope esther had a lot of fun!!! she was the best festival partner! she bought me lots of food. yum! but in any case see you next year coachella!

i spent this eaaarly morning intermitently waking up and sleeping trying to get those damn radiohead pre-sale tickets on waste.uk.com. i didn't get any as i've never had any sort of luck what-so-ever with waste (since 2003), but it's cool. i'll get some shitty tickets in the triple "Z" section with the rest of the binocular clad FISHES on friday. yeah. all i know is how much money have i been throwing at shows?! michael and i donated our remaining limbs for tickets to the kanye west/rihanna/lupe/n.e.r.d. show and i also donated some relatives for the r.e.m./modest mouse/the national show... cha ching, yoaaah!!!

but, but, no seriously, all still kinda pissed about the waste tickets, only a couple hours later i found out that the purple one PRINCE is playing coachella!!! right?! so badly!!! coachella officially WINZ!!! don't EVEN say another festival's line-up is better because if you've been going to coachella as long as i have all them line-ups are sloppy seconds! coachella is the only fest to get portishead, aphex twin and now motha-fukkin' PRINCE! thems restum suck! yeaaah i said it!

there's no better time to be riding bikez in LA than now! los angelopes arroooooo! hollywood ridazz! poker-r-r run on the 19th! there are tons of people are coming out to the weekly tren way rides these days and the rides are getting better because of it! on one tren way ride i sort of planned an april fools prank ride called the ToTa ride (aka tranny on tranny action). it lovingly mocks the GoGa ride (girl on girl action) which is an all girls fast ride in LA. they were having a special ride where the first guy ever, roadblock, won a charity auction to ride with them... we, tranny way, enlisted oldblock to be our roadblock and rolled up to tell them they can't ride with us. they were totally taken by surprise and thankfully it was well recieved. ToTa and GoGa rode a bit together before they bailed fast and i totally looked the hottest... goga's recap & picture links here... hi puppies!

[don't cha... don't cha.]

so what's up? cinnamon lover rollerhockey is in full swing but we've yet to capture a win. a bunch of us went to the most populated baseball game in the history of jesus by going to the dodgers game at the coliseum. i haven't seen many shows lately aside the dependable red sparowes but even they were kind of lacking. i saw a documentary called preachers sons about a same sex couple that adopts 5 "troubled" foster home kids. it's very limited right now but i highly recommend it if you ever get the chance; hopefully it picks up steam. it was made by a fellow midnight rida we called Glo Rider who recently passed away of cancer... this friday Midnight Ridazz is in his honor and we're going to glow glow glow!!! come come come!!!

[canada week recap: cheryl, jonny, tecate, tuque and iphoneXors.]

so what can a daniel say about the past few weeks!? everything(!) as it was awesome highlighted by two of my favorite canadians jonny and cheryl visiting! whuuuh! yeah i owe them like 2 visits now and i'm not talking this summer (sorry) but next! it was a pleasure once again and i think they had loads of fun! right?! we played baseball until our legs fell off, saw midnight movies make a fool of spectrum, did an epic tren way ride to secret bar, went to the cabrillo beach tide poos and saw sea slugs, saw the kings shut out the civil servant sens and capped it all off with a never ending ridge way party!!! all in a week! i'm not sure we stopped drinking (tecateXors) and eating (tacoXos and pizzaXors) but it was all good! thanks for coming you twoo and you're welcome back anytime! wee, eh!

[team special edds. in san diego.]

this past weekend was full of a hell of a lot midnight ridazz sperm, egg and san diego! friday's midnight ridazz was "the mother of all rides" where we played ride and go seek as the sperm in search of the eggs! sandra, nat and mikey came all over the place with esther and i and i'm glad they came. it's nice of the copzz not to mess with us as we partied in pan pacific park until like 3am! then saturday afternoon team special edds (esther, daniel, dennis and stephanie) drove down to san diego for some serious party times part 2. the local san diego ruffian bike ridazz sure know how to put on a ride and we thank them for their hospitality. we went all over san diego and fought through hail and rain to the final party spot. we played bike pinata (riding by on your bike with a u-lock in hand and the pinata had condoms, lube and alcohol shots), gazebo foot down, dodgeball (SD vs LA) where it ended in a dog pile and ended the night at some all-night warehouse dance party/dark exploration. team edds left that around 3am something and somehow i was able to navigate my car through san diego back to our hotel seven or so miles away! the next morning san diego hosted us to a pancake breakfast where we done looked all tore up. i got us home around 6pm and i instantly passed out until this morning (8am!)? f.u.n. EXCITED!

the rest of the past three weeks have been mostly bike related activities with a few shows/parties here and there. three weeks ago was fuzzbeasts mfa ride extravaganza! a bunch of ridazz went to claremont to party in a gallery (for his final) and then rode our bikes ~32 miles back to downtown los angeles! two weekends ago was camille's wtfbbq where we rock band'd and ate lots of food. after that i took a bunch of people to my highschool friends highschool friends band/art party at the light house. british sea power didn't disappoint michaelpop and i for our 4 year anniversary (we met at a bsp show 4 years before at the same venue!), bleeding ears hot! grizzly bear sound amazingly good and tight live. cinnamon lover started pre-season. march madness is upon us and the baseball season starts soon. whut! seriously, guuyzzz...

[midnight ridazz @ slab city]

so a little over a week ago i left the future at salton sea and i have to say that it was the best trip that i've ever been on. the world was already over as we know it so we partied on the debris and set it on fire. we're going to go back to the future every year and i seriously can not wait already.

friday, after an extra long day of work, my caravan (team greed) battled through traffic set for the zone, our camp in hitchhikers camp, over a hill from slab city, east of niland, ca and near the infamous FAIL salton sea. this sea, you see, was supposed to be the new palm springs with fishing galore but bad water irrigation turned it into a man-made disaster not even sonny bono could save. eventually all, except the hardiest fish (tilapia), died off and now the largest lake in california is basically a giant toilet. it's surrounded now by a bunch of abandoned beach houses and a few of the friendliest and hardiest people that you'll ever meet.

a big group went early in the daytime my caravan (team greed!) left after working hours and showed up around midnight. the directions were left at main, go 1.5 miles past a guard shack, go another 0.5 miles past some powerlines and go off the road to the right here. we found the dirt road and rolled into the unusual darkness until we saw some lights... and fire... our camp! joe borfo and franz greeted us on bikes and joe showed us his moon. we parked and found a fire surrounded by half familiar and half unfamiliar faces. mostly bonded by los angeles' finest, midnight ridazz, a few burners and a few s.f. cacophonist would come. esther and i set up our newly purchased tent and into the dark night we stayed by the fire without a clue of what our surroundings looked like.

the first morning the city disappeared around us, thus began the apocalypse. nothing to see but desert, some small hills, some abandoned cement structures and our cool little camp. the days plan was a long ride to bombay beach 20 miles away with esther and i on these shitty target glacier points. our butts hurt the whole way up but the destination was totally worth it! the whole city is 8 streets by 5 streets and half abandoned homes, half occupied and one bar. along the beach they built this giant wall to protect them from the sea and over the wall an entire RV park rotted over. we built a fire, rested, checked the sights and got some food at the bar before the long dark ride back. esther and i pushed ourselves a mile or two from niland before we used support (~36 rode total?). we got back, went to the natural hot springs and when we got back the museum of modern fun f.u.n.derstormed the s.a.l.t. water tower until the break of dawn. literally.

waking up hasn't been this fun in ages. theres just so much to do out there you get excited! the agenda for that sunday in the future (past) was to explore slab city and visit the interesting locals. see, there are these slabs of cement out there that used to be an air strip. these days loads of people who live off the grid in their RVs park there for the winter months and live. we midnight ridazz and friends off-roaded through their lands where most just stared, some took pictures and one lady jokingly yelled, "get the shotgun!" we visited the inspirational salvation mountain despite yr religions, their bicycle friendly bulletin board, we got a 2 song concert at their outdoor concert space called the range, we rested in their makeshift library and we were invited by the mayor of east jesus to east jesus an art filled home and garden. slab city was really close to camp so we got back in no time and rested, visited the hot springs again and we were treated to the finale worthy of any amount of fireworks. deep into a large pit we built the biggest bonfire and we got another injection of f.u.n. dancing around d.e.r. fire until the s.t.o.r.m. receded to sleep.

the last morning (monday) was slow as we didn't really want to leave. all the strangers from the first nights fire are all good friends now. we slowly packt up the camp and the last five cars drove around the lake to try to find another abandoned yacht club for lunch. we found the remnants of one but not the one we wanted but we made the best of it any way and the last of us had a final bbq. we were amazed how much we haven't explored yet and mutually agreed to come back yearly if not more frequent. i got back to work the next day, tuesday, and had the hardest time getting any work done. i couldn't stop thinking and still can't stop thinking about how much fun i had. back to reality now i guess... until burning man... and i hope that can be just as fun. in the meantime let's ride bikes!

(thanks marino, jeff and annie for most of these pictures! they're awesome!)

[salton sea swimming.]

so this weekend coming up i'm going camping! i'm very excited and there is going to be more than 20 of us a rag tag bunch of burners, ridazz and friends. the best part is that we're going to salton sea (well, in the surrounding area)! if you know, you know, if you don't know you don't EVEN know. heck, *I* have no idea... yet. it's apparently the largest lake in california and only the hardiest fish in the world can live in it. so, it's not exactly a picnic by the lake. birds die all the time from eating the bad fish but the outbreaks of botulism have been kept under control. where we're staying doesn't have anything really in the form of electricity or water but there are supplies a short 3 miles away. it's kind of like a warm up to the future burning man that i shall finally be going to. but yeah i'm very excited for this "trip to nowhere"!!! we shall explore so badly and you should go check out flickr for pictures of salton sea because it'll make you want to go... and you can come! just ask! but if we don't return it's not my fault and the rest of you will know where to find us (kinda). theme: post apocalypse (think mad max, thank girl, etc.)

so what else been going down round 'ere? bunches! i went to san diego with J+K, E and M for a weekend and that was nice. the bar scene there isn't too bad but it reminds me of the places that ARE bad in LA a bit. richard was a great host. i crashed my bike on a tren way ride and luckily it's fine but i bruised my right calf so bad it sucked to walk for 2 weeks! well, tomorrow will be 2 weeks and it still hurts a bit today so i assume it'll hurt tomorrow. calf muscles heal slowly so my gait improved slowly. i saw cool as ice and you have to see that so friggin badly roflcopter machine a thon a zubaz jiggalo jiggy with it. 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days keeps me thinking. persepolis was a lovely history lesson. black heart procession was a bit sleepy. cornelius 1 2 3 rocks. scarnella are fucking endearing. my hockey team cinnamon lover missed the playoffs by mere stats. esther bought me a holster for my air soft gun and we bought tons of camping gear!!! (re: post apocalypse) and jonny and cheryl will be in town march 1 to march 8, yes please! thank you.

[rides on a hawaiian sunset.]

so i'm back from hawaii and of my past three trips this was definitely the most enjoyable one. i had a lot more freedom and the main objective of this years trip (my aunts retirement party) was a lot better than the previous two times (a funeral and a wedding). my brother and i got our own room for a full week and i like to think we used it well. we kept the room well stocked with beers and even had extras after! the first day though was probably the best as we rented some road bikes from a local shop and rode all over the city. we didn't know the roads at all so it was some serious exploration time. we tried to get a ride going with some locals on alohafixed.com but our correspondance was all too last minute. the night we got there they actually had a screening of MASH-SF (a sf fixed gear movie) which would have been perfect but we found out as it was ending. then the next day on our way to get our bikes we flagged down a random messanger and he said, "well, we dont ride much we just drink a lot" ... "perfect!" we thought. he was nice and tried to get something going but it didn't work out. despite the lack of local help i think we did quite well on them crowded streets; going east, finding that bar they screened MASH-SF in chinatown called thirtyninehotel, watching the sunset and then going out again later for some late night riding finding this secluded beach.

the rest of the time there was filled with family outings, eating, christmas, dinners, lunches, breakfasts, beer, a few trips to the beach, dancing with a hula dancer, aunts retirement party, eating, a short jaunt to maui to the top of a dormant (crater) volcano (haleakawa) where it was freeeeezing, more beer and back again to oahu for a final night in serious margaritaville. i don't usually get fruity drinks but i got a couple the last night and i swear it (kalapaki rita: juices of passion fruit and pineapple, gold tequila and triple sec) tasted exactly like joose!!!

so yeah, i've been back for a while, new years was cool and pretty chill. 2007 was cool despite the boys losing "party til you puke 2007"... i'm not sure the theme of this year yet. cinnamon lover hockey is still trucking on (jerics brother alan busted his lip last night and it took 12 hours to get stiches). tren way still rides weekly. burrito gang is going on and i don't even know about it. oh my christmas party at the standard downtown was fun. i'm still waiting for coachella bands 2008. seeing black heart procession and cornelius in the next two weeks. we are going to attempt two (2) groophug parties in 2008. and esther is hot!

[tree and commando claus. 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5.]

so the world of baseball is doing a bit of cleansing. the mitchell report is going to go public soon (11am pacific) and name 50-80 names of steroid using baseball players. i'm not sure the affect it'll have on baseball or even why i want to see it but i'll see. i really hope no prominent dodgers are on there... maybe sheffield... maybe gagne... but who knows who else. so i'll sit here wearing the '88 dodger shirt (monique gave me!) and wait for the report in the meantime.

santacon was this past weekend! it was crazy as usual and i'm sorry you couldn't make it. there were drunk bus rides, gold soundz impressions, snowballs thrown, santa's were asked if we were "terrorists" by the cops (stuuuupid), mini-bikes, we had heli(cop)ters following us, free gin drinks at formosa, lots of lost santas and the usual end at a, um, bikini bar! haha... jumbos this time. but yeah as i say every year, you gotta go dude!!! man.

so um what else, i joined facebook and it's kind of boring but could be better if more of you were on there, i saw midnight movies play songs for frodo, i got guitar hero III for Wii and i am 85% through HARD level (where i'll end up because HOW HARD!) and tren way has been going strong even starting a chapter of burrito project where we make and hand out burritos to homeless people. if any of you ridazz want to help with of that let me know :) and you, yes you, get a bike!

oh, and i'll be out of town from december 20th to december 28th. i'm going to hawaii (honolulu, oahu) with the entire family. there's going to be big parties and we're even going to maui for a little bit and i've never been on that island. my brother and i hope to rent bikes for a day but i don't know if we'll have time. it's going to be my first christmas away from home so that's a bit weird. i'll miss the esther so badly!!! sigh. i'll try to do postcards so e-mail me, myspace, facebook, text or call me your addresses again. even if you know i have it. kthxbye!

[dinosaurs party ridge way style.]

so i guess i'm one of the few people that has to work today. it's cool because i got a half day unlike mpop who has a full day of 20% work. currently there is a band of zombies running around town that i could be with but oh well. i could meet them towards the end but i'm much to lazy for that. instead esther and i are going to run around and look at helmets. it's somewhat related to, but mostly not related to, the fact she crashed the other week "doing tricks being chased by cops, etc"... some of you may have seen her in person or on flickr but she looks really great and normal now so it's all good. she's a tough girl and she's still hotter than your girlfriend.

naturally a lot has been going on since last i tuned in. my friend (roughrider) joe had a wedding/reception thing but before the reception we (joe and his only 4 friends including i) had to like, coarse(?) his wife out of the room by breaking a door and offering money or something? i don't know it was weird. i think it was chinese? don't ask me. halloween was in there somewhere and dennis, esther and i were rad dinosaurs. borfo was a more rad dinosaur. esther's (happy) birthday(!) was a success!

tren way is still going strong. a fat angry lady threw a glass bottle at my wheel a week ago and broke a spoke but it's cool. if you see a white late 90s four door (toyota?) with the plate CA(Five)SRM(275) let me know! i want to give her a hug for teaching me how weak plastic spokes are latterally. no, eh, but still yeah on wednesday tren way made a bunch of burritos, rode out on our bikes and passed them out to homeless people. it's part of the whole burrito project thing and we plan on doing it semi regularly. it's pretty crazy and the homeless people seem to be really grateful for the food and socks we gave them. apparently it's illegal and we could get tickets for it which is stupid (maybe we should drop them in trash cans for them?!) but it's cool and nice regardless. if you want to help us out the next time we do it let me know! and i think that's it...

notes: my hockey team cinnamon lover looks good this year, saw the kings beat the wild in there, control was a very nice movie, saw sigur ros do a 3 song acoustic set followed by their new docu-movie heima which is absolutley gorgeous, no country for old men was great as well but leaves you wanting more, dj krush went on and on and somehow kept e and i entertained for four and a half hours straight, poker is coming back around again, thanksgiving was nice and i get guitar hero 3 for Wii on monday... you herrrrd! wooWOO!!!

[i can only pee when you turn on the red light.]

so i've gone vegan for the past two days and it's been alright. the sandwich i had at pure luck was okay until the texture wore me out. it started to taste like mushrooms (which is probably was) so i was like, nah bro, give me some beer. but my meal at real food daily was pretty damn good! the seitan's texture was a lot more enjoyable and i ate the whole plate! ceramic and all! but seriously nah i could never go vegan or vegetarian for that matter.. heck i had animal parts between the meals and i had a secret animal sprinkle shaker under the table!!! i mean, i could last a while on cheese and eggs but i couldn't neglect my furry friends! and you know you don't make friends with salad! so hats off to you vegans and moby!

i've been living at esthers place ridge way every weekend for the past few weeksends. they've all been quite epic so they're addictive like that. on the 29th esther and i went to nocturnal wonderland and it was fucking awesome! we literally danced from 10pm to 4am to chemical brothers, PVD and benny bennasi! it was soooo rad! esther is going to turn into a raver so go buy her bright plastic jewelry. she got this uh, show, that i've never seen before called a "light show" where she sits down and some random person stands over her and waves either glowsticks and/or blinky lights in her face. it's sooo weird but people are all entranced!!! i didn't get one because i didn't know if i had to tip or if i had to give a light show back. i could wave my cellphone in her face but they might freak out if it started to ring.

the next weekend we rode our bikes to the henry fonda and saw metric/crystal castles! crystal castles were all angry at the lackluster crowd and that girl with the face said they reminded her of her dad. haha. that's funny. metric's emily haines or whatever was pretty entertaining herself and very uma i barely realized. the next day we went to detour fest and saw a bunch of random bands. most notable was thee ed banger crew who bang their heads to the beats. they're kinda funny and they like to smile to themselves and think, "goddamn we're cool." while they spin tried and true indie dance hits alongside homemade wrecked beats! hotcha! justice did a DJ set too but it was not neaaaarly as good as the "live" set we saw them do the next day. how many shows with esther!!! they were all fun though and i think e had a good time. we sprinkled some bikes in there but i was cut off after detour because i was sick.

i rested the whole week over with minimal movement so that i'd be 99% for brendans birthday party! rad! you! i would say that it was as crazy as the last one! the party would have gone on forever had it not been for the lights suddenly going on! haha. it was all kinds of crazy party and dancing and mustache time or whatever. some pictures here (maria) and here (jose)... and yeah ridge way is having a party on the 27th for halloween!!! you're invited! i think, well except these seedy guys. but ridge way is pretty rad as we just sit around and since our bikes are prominently displayed we tend to ride them as much as we can. tren waaaaay!

[ridge way bicycle rack v0.1]

i've been living at esther's place (ridge way) since wednesday and it's been pretty awesome. esther's been a delightful host and her roommates are extra nice and laid back (duh). there are two small pups (grr + poops) and a cat (fireball) that run about and cause the best trouble! but saturday night, oh man, saturday night was a serious epic party that went full throttle from 9pm to 6am... like for serious. it was nearly impossible to not have fun! it was maria's birthday and kind of a coming out party for brendan, nicole and esther's new home. well to say it's fully broken in now and all three of them are in love with their place.

i've danced all weekend (underground, ridge way party & part time punx) and i'm still on the verge of non-stop partying every weekend! this coming saturday esther and i will somehow find ourselves at nocturnal wonderland! i wanted to go just to see the chemical brothers but heck since we're there we'll turn it into some serious exploration team time. i want to see girl talk on friday but i none got tix, eh. the next weekend after starting friday we're seeing metric/crystal castles at the henry fonda and then going to thee detour festival (justice, bloc party, moving units, autolux, ed banger shits, etc) that saturday. then the monday after we're going to see justice again (2nd show added! tickets just went on sale! jesus!) at the henry fonda! looks like this plus a couple other dates...

09-27 - Dodgers vs. Rockies (Mourning Season w/Fleece Blanket Night!)
09-29 - Nocturnal Wonderland (Chemical Brothers & ?!?!)
10-05 - Metric/Crystal Castles @ Henry Fonda
10-06 - Detour Festival (Justice & ?!?!)
10-08 - Justice @ Henry Fonda
10-16 - Kings @ Staples Center

what i miss? amy's party was fucking rad. i don't remember most of the night but i got molestared and molested i think? underworld was dirty epic. spoon made me want to keepon despite the nerd factor that night. cinnamon lover made it to the playoffs but bowed out heavily. the arcade fire/lcd soundsystem was pretty rad despite some random cans. and ummm... yeah. oh and have fun in dem carolina's michael!!!

so i took that career thingie thing thing as well, and well, i don't know what the heck. how much work are those things to get started! they need to put a lazy meter like, "how lazy are you?" ... although i guess i'd have fun blowing things up. but then again if i ever want to quit and live in the mountains i'll get a visit from the feds every few months.

of course i bet i'd never live like a loner in the woods. there are no concerts or clubs in the woods. just wooden clubs and ogres chanting. i guess i could still have the internet.. but then i'd get bored and end up converting my yard into a mine-field with all that wasted explosives training. haha. how much fortress! speaking of ogres i was thinking of, like, real monsters and there aren't enougn crazy people that live in underground tunnels or in mountain caves that scavenge for food and attack hikers. you'd think there would be more of those, right? thems crazy peoples! i mean, i guess some homeless are a flick of a switch away from that...

what i'm thinking is that we need to seriously do neighborhood dungeon crawling... we need to discuss that more. who wants in on that? you don't know what i'm talking about? you know... storm drains......

[september 4, today, late twenties.]

yeah it's been as hot as your mom. even at the mall. my house lost power last night and still wasn't on when i woke up this morning, hot. my alarm clock makes a funny beeping noise instead of 'radio' when it's running on batteries. that's neat. at least it's supposed to cool down from now on and i did my best all weekend. friday i took it pretty easy and rested til michaelpop came around with his new ladyfriend lindsey. she's nice and they got on real well if you know what i mean! camille had a (happy) birthday/housewarming party on saturday that was pretty sweet. vishal was a pleasant surprise and wont be around long so book him while you have the chance... dodger game?

i had my own pretty impromptu birthday party sunday late afternoon into the night. first of all i want to thank everyone who showed up and especially those who brought stuff and helped out. i really hope you all had a good time! it started around 3pm and people just kept coming and cumming and coming. we had some yum yum bbq, macaroni and chili, beers and fuzzy navels for days, bad (and i'm really sorry for it) radio tunes, wandering commando pups, waterguns, waterballoons and double ($2.50ea!) waterslide action, the karaoke was broken, the bands that were going to play all broke up, we had quite a few water innocent bystanders (among a few selected hits) but all in all a very good party i thought!

the best part by far was the dual lane waterslides despite a damaged lawn; how much fun was that! we're all knicked up and sore i'm sure but that was sooo much fun! we didn't race much because they were only 16 feet long but how much turbo style and breaking! all the hits were notable like the michael pop welcome bombardment (bombardment!), the thanks for cooking john vu gifts of water and the cool off the nighttrain waterballoon death from above. but yeah, really, again i hope everyone had an overall good time and stuff. i knew most everyone and it was sooo nice to see all yr faces and i met only a few newbies like some brazillian girls and a french dude but yeah i felt the love. esther helped with everything the whole time and of course thanksies to her to the max. my next party i'll try to organize a little better as again it was all totally last minute (i'm sure a few of you didn't even hear about it, sorry!) but thanks for everything! if you want to get some drinks tonight meet me at the griffin (3000 Los Feliz Blvd, 90189?) around 9pm tonight!

august recap: julie grills and hawk from iceland, elans dance party, mikey's party with randoms, cindy's sushi party, midnight ridazz crazy clown ride with broken bones, esther moving to ridge way, piano bar and pop's male hooker, lebowski ride and white russians, monique + karls party, fuck yeah fest w/mm, deerhunter and great northern, with lots of tren way action.

Subject:you can’t just hop a plane and come and visit me again.
Time:12:00 pm.
Mood:uphill both ways.
Music:the smashing pumpkins - stellar.
ok, so the past weekend malibu + san francisco has been nothing short of the awesome. starting thursday night esther and i saw tegan and sara at the malibu performing arts center. we drove out there over the mountains, by the sea to this little auditorium filled with short t&s loving fans. everyone was a serious cub aside the few parents escorting their kids. we had prime front row stage left seats but the place was so small there wasn't a bad seat in the house. they played their new album in full then spattered us with their hits. it was a really really good show and maybe along with SP the best of the year. yeah i said it. after the show we leisurely drove back down PCH and hung out with tren ways at the hammer museum for a sec after the midnight movie show. then home to prepare for the long trip ahead.

dennis, esther and i woke up like 7am, packed into my matrix and picked up rhiannon in hollywood. the drive up was uneventful aside a pit stop at split pea andersons and thankfully traffic free. we check into our ghetto hotel called the alexander inn and suites and basically had problems with it the whole time but i wont get into that.

we settled in as much as we could and drove the car to brett's neighborhood to ditch it for the weekend. we met up with him and ashley for a second but quickly departed without them on our way on bikes to the start of critical mass sf. going down market street was crazy as dennis crashed and i got harrassed by some cracked out dude but it was fun! we met up with richietotheie and his friends and rode the route for only like 15 minutes. it was a huuuuge and apparently went on forever and ever but we had to break off for the smashing pumpkins.

we rode up geary all the way to the fillmore semi early and waited only a bit in line. we got inside (no apples?!) and got super close. they were fucking loud and pretty amazing i have to say. they played a lot of old classics and rarities along with all their new and new unreleased songs. at the very end they played 'gossamer' an epic 30 minute jam with tons of solos and all kinds of noise that somehow got louder and louder at every beat. my ears were blown by the end of it when billy flung his pick into the air and it landed on my foot so i picked it up. it's a cute little black pick with a zero and a ton wear marks; it's not only like catching a baseball at a game but a home run instead of a foul! so yeah, rad show...

all stunned we waddled to our bikes picking up a poster on the way and rode up fillmore to brett's place. he joined us on bikes and we tried to find a party in the mission. failing to find anything good we just went into the dark of a park to drink pabst and relax. all tired from riding and concerting we called it a relative early FRIDAY night.

we got up the next saturday morning and met up with brett on market st. the five of us took our bikes onto the bart across the bay for some M.I.A. action at the berkeley amoeba! we locked up and waited around for a while and it was cool but there was limited sightlines toward the make-shift stage and she only played like 5 songs. she got us into the mood for some naan 'n' curry after and settled our stomachs in the barts on the way back to sf for some mission bicycle bar hopping!

our first bar was the zeitgeist where you bring your bicycle straight into the bar and out the back where there is a huge patio complete with bike parking on hooks! this place was raaaad and they had cheap pitchers of beer and i swear we had once each at least. richie was already there, rhi's friend met us and the raddest is when julie met up with us! she was jamming and everyone got on with her really well right away. rolling 6 deep we made our way to the next bicycle bar called the gestalt haus! this place was rad right away as they had a double decker bike rack inside! they serve giant german beers on tap and had tasty sausages to eat and the people seemed nice enough.

next was a regular bar called delirium a couple doors down which had dancing in the back! how much dance to 80s were we! we did that for a while until we heard rumblings of a party so we took off +1 (brett's friend) and went to some intersection. there we found j+k on foot and eventually the party only to find out it was a tiny party. never discouraged (and gaining +3 richie and friends) we cycled our way to another bar across town only getting semilost following some random bicyclists. when we got there we pretty much separated due to the cover and indecisiveness. rhi, dennis, esther and i followed julie to an irish bar near our hotel called the edinburgh castle for some mod and soul! louvig ended up meeting us there and we spent the rest of the night there while the girls danced their heads off. 2am tired we went dodging random homeless into our tenderloin dwelling.

sunday morning esther and i rode our bikes to retrieve my lonely car up (down and up) the hill so we could pack up our things. we drove out to the fishermans wharf area and walked around pier 39 before getting some food at fisherman's grotto. we digested a bit at the vintage arcade and packed our cars once again to go conquer the golden gate bridge. we drove along the shore and randomly stumbled upon thee most perfect parking lot. we got on our bikes and rode on this trail for a bit and found the entrance to the bicycle side of the bridge. needless to say the four of us flew across the bridge despite the hard winds pushing our sides. it was kind of scary at times especially with my cardboard #89 acting as a wind-sail but it was quite amazing to do. we all stood there on the other side and we knew we conquered san francisco for sure. we'll all definitely want to come back soon. maybe late september? either way thank you everyone that met with us and helped us. we'll see your crazy hills and bumpy roads soon... oh and why do SF people dislike LA people so much???

Mood:phillies nuts.
Music:tegan and sara - the con.
i think i think about writing in here more than i actually do. it's cool... it's cool to know i'm not addicted to lj! ha! the last time i wrote something substantial was about all that smashing pumpkin stuff and come next week i'm gonna see them! it's nearly made me forget how good daft punk is and how excited i should be for that. i'm seeing tegan and sara twice next week (amoeba and malibu) as well and somehow i'm even more excited for that than daft punk. oh well. around the wurrrr.

let's see, i've been riding bikes a lot obviously. it's gotten to the point where i can just ride and ride and ride and not feel too tired or anything. tren way has been going at least twice a week in addition to the regular weekend rides. yes yr still invited and you should just come instead of thinking about it. we love it when new people come out regardless of "how good they are" or anything like that. is true! join us! but no pressure aside whats in yr tires!!! hahahahaha. eh.

what i've been most excited about is esther's cute little bike Hareford... we're fixing it up using the frame and putting slightly bigger wheels, stripping it down to single speed f/f with a new crank and cleaning it up reaaaal good. it's going to look sooo awesome when we're done with it. currently how cute...

[esther and hareford currently.]

but later oh man you'll see. sadly it wont be done in time for SF (july 27-29) due to some wheel building time but that's okay. we're just excited to get up there with our bikes and just party all the time! we're not going to m.i.a. that saturday so we plan on riding constantly. i still need to get in touch with my SF bike contacts aside from brettito. party? hollah!

the dodgers are doing well with the best record in the national league. we saw them last night and they finally won when michael and i were around (1-3) so that's nice. i've seen a few shows in the meantime, crystal castles, css and lcd were all butt spanking sexy time dancing fun. some movies: paprika (cool), ufo's at the zoo (a flaming lips documentary-ish-neat), ratatat(oille was nice) and transformers (which was totally awesome aside a few intentionally bad lines)... i can't wait til winona ryder finally comes out with a new movie...

[setlist from their first reunion show. omfg!]

so, yeah, the smashing pumpkins are one of my favorite bands ever. top 10 easily. yet, i've never seen them live, yeah, i know, right? i don't know what happened but it's okay. i've gotten over the fact i'll never see d'arcy and james as a pumpkin again. i like d&j a lot and i hate to say it but billy and jimmy were more essential than d&j to the sound of the pumpkins. yeah, what? i mean james was totally jamming spawning long haired asian clones and d'arcy emitted some serious animal vibes but it's billy's mind singing his heart out and jimmy's pounding that got me to the rocking. d'arcy has been replaced by some girl named ginger reyes (of the halo friendlies) and james by jeff schroeder (of lassie foundation) along with some keyboardist or something.

so that's cool. so i'm getting to the best part. i'm finally going to see "them" at the fillmore (san francisco) with my brother and esther! soooo badly! somehow they scored tickets and i got nothing. so they're taking me! YAY!!! yeah. what?! and after seeing the setlist i'm all extra excited to see them now. yeaaaaaahh!!! so we'll be at the friday, july 27, 2007 show on our bikes!!! we plan on staying for 2 nights (leaving sunday) and just riding around to our hearts content. so come up and join us if you like! we haven't figured out where we're staying or what kinda of rides are going on that weekend but we'll know sooner or later. sadly their sf critical mass is that same july 27th so i hope we can track down a rider party after the show!!! maaan it's going to be an epic weekend! so yeah... pumpkins cool and see us in san francisco! dammit!

Music:the presets - are you the one?.
so let me tell you a little about coachella undoubtedly the best music festival in the world. yeah i said it. yeah some of you are like, noo bone-a-roo or glastonbury well, whatever, they don't exist in my experiences! haha, and when was the last time they had jamc! that's right! shut up! okay. so again, in the tradition of 2004, 2005 and 2006 i bring you coachella 2007!!!

uh. yeah. this year it was three days of music explosions a natural progression from two. i assume if they can keep up the quality of bands it'll stay like this from now on. my brother and i went thursday afternoon to our cushy motel 6 off the 10 (@ indian) some 20 miles from the fest. sadly we didn't get our time share but the motel 6 was okay, well, quaint at best. we lingered around for jeric, alan and kelly to show up and eventually jose and his brother paul to head out to the filter mag party! once again it started at a indian casino where buses took us into the boonies for some free booze and schwag! all kinds of crazy fun! even alan rowing me on a boat! uh. weeee! skip to next morning after a night on a floor... it was time for coachella! don't worry about it, haha...

friday
- we left later because bands we wanted weren't til 4:45.
- jack in the box, hi!
- we got in relatively quick because we found secret roads.
- silversun pickups i haven't seen them since i saw them at the silverlake lounge and of course i wondered how their sound would translate to the main stage. for me they owned it (having their album helps) and they would have totally owned everyone else had it not been for the singers bad jokes. xrxt.
- the jesus and mary chain was of course a huge deal. i actually haven't heard many of their albums but they still sounded great. i was too caught up in the moment to notice that scarlett j's voice was off (because how nervous!) so the 'honeys' sounded fine in person. the setlist was good and as friday was the real music lovers day i think the crowd was into it.
- jarvis cocker was jamming!!! he totally put a spell on the crowd and everyone forgot for a moment they really wanted to hear pulp. i have the album somewhere but never listened to it and still he sounded good. it was nice seeing some of the other pulp members in the background. i guess michael pop met him over the weekend? that's cool. so did april and david. hi yallz!
- sonic youth played an awesome set!!! and mark ibold (the bassist of pavement for you unedupavemented) was bassing for them! oh man. he's such a cutee that ibold and he's the only one that got introduced with a last name, haha. oh and i guess it wasn't a completely awesome set because i kinda get annoyed by that 'do you believe in rapture baby', song. yeah. but no, they sprinkled a bit of every album it seemed so it was niiiice.
- bjork was so damn cute! i kinda wished i stayed for her whole set, well closer any way as i was still there just farther but but she played all the jams! even my favorite hyper-ballad. aww. and she was doing all her cute bits like usual, ziank yooo! and gracias!! hehe... cute. yeah. what? but then i walked over to the second stage.
- dj shadow it was my first time seeing him and despite going on late and playing late it was still an awesome set. all kinds of hits and even some unkle for good measure! perfect way to close out a long night one.
- waited only a little in our small parking lot which was liberated when some dudes broke open a fence! jamming. haha.
- alan was too lazy to open his sleeping bag and slept on the floor.

saturday
- finally a good night of sleep.
- first meal ever at wendys!!! that's cool.
- i drove this time with no problem getting in again! they've fixed delays it seems but we didn't take jefferson... so yeah.
- fields i never heard any music from at all but only heard their album was good? and they were good. they were okay. i don't know if i liked them but they sounded really fine and nice.
- the frames i saw/met them years ago with the elusive julie grills because she was friends with them. i remember them sounding more elongated and a hair below epic but they sounded just like good ol' time fun this time around. the singer was in good spirits and i know i've met them all but i couldn't tell you a name for the life of me.
- dj heather i needed some rest from all that time in the sun so i just watched her dj a bit with my bro. that's cool.
- hot chip i never really heard them either but they sounded really good despite being packt into a little sardine tent. i'm sure there was a dance party somewhere and maybe one day i'll be in it.
- travis were awesome! you don't even know essay! they played all the hits starting with U16 girls and ended with why does it always rain on me? (which was introduced as being terribly inappropriate). they were wildly in good spirits and i was surprised so many people remembered them. heeeeeeeeeeeeey all i wanna do is rock... uuuggh. yeah.
- !!! were a serious dance party once again and i would have kicked everyone around me had they played guiliani but alas no. the new songs were sounding tasty and it was like a dance school clinic!
- the arcade fire is one of those chill inducing epicly epic epic bands that everyone has to see at least once. if you're one of those, "eh. they're alright." i can almost guarantee you haven't *seen* them. they were great even from the nosebleeds.
- blonde redhead to be honest i saw them once before but i couldn't recollect one memory from it. this time i can totally remember all of it because they were raaad! well, by that their new album is awesome. i felt bad when i *had* to duck out early because...
- girl talk were breaking the stage! well that dude was. i don't think i saw him aside of being on the screen because his stage had like 600 people on it dancing. i was dancing a bit by myself alone on the side of the tent, aww... if you don't know him he just mixes every song ever together quite incestually but awesomely!
- lcd soundsystem were one of my top three of the festival. i found a good spot on the side i could put my bag down and dance freely. but where was michael!? aw. it's okay i still danced my head off.
- the good the bad and the queen sadly they went on super late so i could have caught a little of the rapture maybe? or maybe cornelius? but yeah they still sounded good and the wind would blow on cue. paul simonon was totally hot shit, simon tong was bored again and damon was terribly charming as usual.
- we waited a little to get out but found a fast way out eventually. that was nice. "home". sleep.

sunday
- took two cars this day because my brother and i didn't have anything til explosions but ended up getting there only slightly after j, k and a.
- another wendy's meal! is their chili any good? i meant to get some but didn't.
- kid beyond is this dude that beat boxes and loops his own beats with his feet and beats over his beats. what??? i don't know but he was jamming!
- grizzly bear is some band i've heard of tons but never actually heard. they sounded good. right? yeah and i think i want to get an album by them now? i don't know.
- explosions in the sky fucking rocked. top 3 yeah.
- soul wax (nite versions) were really cool and chilled me out until this girl laying down next to me started to talk.
- cansei de ser sexy were how cute!!! i was dancing the whole time to this as well and paris hilton was on the side of the stage. they had some new songs too which gives me hope of a new album. i want to see them in a sweat infested dance hall now. after i caught a little willie nelson (without any willie nelson), some placebo (xrxt) and some food before...
- crowded house they were cool, hey now, hey now, but i left a little early to get a good spot for...
- lily allen!!! she was totally way better than i expected. she was charming and sounded fine despite claiming a throatie hoarse voice. the crowd was way into it and the hit parade just kept coming. she even threw in a lilyesque 'heart of glass' without an ounce of pretention.
- happy mondays were fookin' nutters. let me tell you. shaun ryder is a classic impression of himself. he was wasted off something and could hardly stand up straight. he couldn't remember the lyrics for the songs at first so they put these monitors in front of the stage so he could read them! then some other random guy came out to help sing songs with him. but around halfway in (with a lot of cups of water) shaun was into it and singing the best he could without the monitors. all kinds of classics hallalujah, kinky afro, the hypnotic piano of 'step on' and closing with a nice 24 hour party people. sadly there was no bez for no explained reason. but one song this guy came out pretending to be bez and did a really good job i thought! bez was missed but seeing the legendary shaun in predictable form was priceless.
- rage against the machine was cool. how crowded! literally the biggest crowd i've ever seen there. you had to stand up even waaaay in the back to see anything. they sounded good but i gravitated towards the random dance dome after a while and drank pepsi.
- waddled my way back to the car pretty early and my brother showed up shortly after. beat the crowds home.
- j, k and a got there late and decided to just go home early that night.
- dennis and i watched some 'planet earth' and how nuts is that show! man.

monday morning my brother checked out as late as possible. we went to my parents time share and played on the slide a little bit. it was kinda like, that's cool, so we left earlier than usual negating the burritos we usually get. but yeah still a great weekend; despite; a lot of great bands and the three days wasn't as hard as i thought it'd be. the 20 mile drives without a slide at the pool to the fest left a lot to be desired but hopefully we'll get the time-share next year. i plan on stapling michael pop to a ticket so he has to go for sure. i also plan on taking esther because i think she'd love it all too. any questions?

[hot dude on a bike.]

so i've been riding a good while now and i'm loving the hell out of it. it's almost been a year of regular riding as june was my first midnight ridazz. i used to have a bike as a kid; alan and i used to ride around everywhere when we got into skateboards i somehow got talked into giving my bike away by an adult to a "poor family" haha. so i hadn't had one in forever but it's true you never forget how to ride; it'll just be a little shakey at first. now i'm even better than when i was a kid. i was never able to do much riding without hands. alan was always better at that than i was. but recently i've gotten comfortable riding hands free! it's kinda neat but yeah since the bike resurrection i've had three bikes and one crash on each...

Green Magna Glacier Point, unnamed: this was on one of the first Tren Way rides. i was riding ahead of the pack with michael, and i, myself, decided to play chicken with a plastic bottle on the floor. it was pressurized, half-full and totally wailed on me. i fell to my right and scraped myself a little but all was good. i told michael not to tell anyone and rode home bleeding. it's quite funny to think about. i learned to watch the road and not challenge inanimate objects.
dumb factor: 8 (me vs. inanimate object)
damage: 2 (just some scrapes.)
funny: 7 (i fought the bottle and the bottle won.)

Motobecane Mirage Sport, Miette: this was on the pasadena UFO midnight ridazz. i was way in the front of the pack the wrong way and lost with a bunch of speedsters. i called my brother (while riding) trying to figure out where the pack was. i was in front of paseo colorado when a light turned red. i rode on the sidewalk and decided to go back on the street on the other side of the red. i miscalculated and went off a curb one handed... into the floor... into the traffic... with an audience of black dudes laughing their asses off. it was quite funny but i learned not go off curbs one handed. i still talk on the phone from time to time... bad me, bad, stop that.
dumb factor: 10 (phone, one handed, off curb, into traffic, cops & black dudes around.)
damage: 4 (tweeked shoulder and little scrapes.)
funny: 8 (thinking about it it's less funny.)

Nishiki Single Speed, Midori: happened this past midnight ridazz, the hit and run awareness ride, and this is the first one no fault of my own. i was riding down santa monica blvd minding my own business talking to my brother on the left when someone comes and cuts me off from the right. i ate it and scraped the right side of my body. i didn't care so much for that but i was pretty pissed i hurt the pretty handlebar tape on midori! aww. we're okay though. i rode on just fine with a little bit of arm and leg scrapes! showering kinda sucks now. i learned that i really love riding and to ride on!!!
dumb factor: 1 (no fault of mine really.)
damage: 3 (click link for the arm scrapes... got some on leg too.)
funny: 3 (i mean, i dunno, falling is funny!)

so yeah riding is rad! this isn't to make you scared of riding or anything... but more to say like shit son if yr acting a fool you may fall! if you ride in groups yr bound to get a little crash time in or something. it just shows how nice a community it is when everyone is like "are you okay?" and i'm like "i think so?" haha yeah so that was nice. i still don't know who cut me off and frankly i don't really care to ask or whine about it. i mean, if i tweeked my bike it'd be another story but my body heals so it's all good!!! so who wants to ride with us tuesday!??! we haven't decided on a route but you're all welcome. tren way in the hizzzzz. and remember folks bicycles have the right to the full use of the right lane... so don't you be honkin' unless it's for support!

in other news: happy taxes day! aqua teen hunger force colon was rad! as well as grindhouse! but movie time with the esther is the best-er-est part. cinnamon lover is 3-0! go dodgers so badly! is the new blonde redhead as good as those two songs i've heard? wtf virginia tech person!
