8:09 am - How does a robot have chin stubble?
Well I finally got around to watching the premiere and second episode of the new Transformers Animated series.  So far it's not too bad.  But it's certainly... different.  Very different...

First off it is totally trying to win back the 'old' Transformers crowd.  Heck the first 10 seconds of the premiere IS the original cartoon.  As seen as 'history' vids that Optimus is a fan of watching.  But there are many other things the old fans will notice.  The original 'whump' sound of Megatron's fusion blaster.  The original transforming sound.  (Albit done to anime speed lines the first time.)  The Dinobots in their original designs and colors show up the second episode.  The 'All Spark' when open looks suspiciously like the old Vector Sigma computer.  Sowry's(?) key looks like the Key to Vector Sigma even as well.  Even Black Arachnia from Beast Wars returns as a Decepticon with her original voice actor and classic personality.

That said, it's still quite odd.  It seems they're blending the old Transformers story line with the new 2007 movie story and then a few new things completely off the shelf for an entirely new plot.  I don't quite like what they did to some of the characters in the process, namely Optimus.  Who is know some washed-out academy brat stuck with a 3rd-rate repair crew that keeps giving him crap about the absolutely naive speeches he keeps giving.  Oh and he dies, the VERY FIRST EPISODE.  I mean COME ON!  I know he got a bad rep for doing it all the fucking time in the Japanese series, but sheesh.  Ratchet is kinda weird now too.  Being a veteran of the great wars with the Decepticons, he's some old-ass geezer always complaining about crap.

Some of the changed characters I do like though.  Starscream for one is... well... competent.  I mean very first episode he actually SUCCEEDS in taking out Megatron.  I mean wow, this guy was a shit-head before but now he actually knows what the hell he's doing.  Too bad he has zippo charisma and all the Decepticons leave him the second Megs is toast.  Course, the giant shock-wave heading towards the ship that Starscream was ignoring might've helped in that regard.  Megatron himself is pretty neat as well.  He doesn't take crap from anyone when he's focused on his goal.  He's a lot smarter too now as well.  Even more of a schemer then the Megatron from Beast Wars.  Of course, he kinda has to be now since he's not much more then half a head sitting in a lab at the moment.  Optimus managed to shove him out the airlock during a fiery re-entry, and apparently he didn't land all that well.  A crafty human salvaged him and created a robotic renaissance from the technology.  Course now he's woken up and is having to work from the shadows to take down the Autobots while finding someway to rebuild himself.  Last change I like is Prowl.  Even though his voice actor happens to be Niles from Fraiser, he's a ninja.  Nuff said.

As for plot, it's kind of a blend it seems.  Optimus and stupid-crew stumble upon All Spark while clearing rocks.  Megatron shows up in big-ass cruiser and chases their piece of junk scow.  Starscream rigs Megatron to blow up when he boards the Autobot ship.  All Spark ports them to safety somehow.  Autobots crash into Lake Eerie and go into stasis for 50 years.  They wake up when giant nanite-infested cockroach goes on a rampage in Detroit.  They save Detroit, become heroes to humans.  Little girl follows them to their ship, meats All Spark, which gives her a magical key that heals Autobots instantly and power boosts them occasionally.  (Guess kinda like the keyes from Transformers Cybertron series.)  Starscream shows up finally and kicks their asses till the All Spark vapes him somehow.  Okay, so that's the premiere in a nutshell.  And... there's not much to add to it really.  Megatron wakes up in the second episode and proceeds to 'help' his human captor in building the dinobots for an amusement park.  Megs of course adds in a few extra additions as a testbed for his future army.  Somehow a mix of EMP blast and All Spark power gives the Dinobots actual spark or something.  Megs convinces them that cars are evil, car robots even worse.  (Clever glib against the horrible Car Robots series, hehe.)  Dinobots defeated with brains since they seem to not have any.  But then saved from the smelter and put on a island retreat by the Autobots.

So, there it is so far.  The Teen Titans design isn't too bad, although the humans sometimes make you go wtf.  Like the rossack baby... yeah.  And an 8-year-old girl telling Optimus how babies are made was kinda strange.  Although I suppose it is set in a 2020-ish future so maybe kids learn earlier then ever.  But overall it's not annoying too much.  Other the Optimus's face that is.  And the chins... what the hell is with the chins...

Overall, about a 7.5/10 I say.  Might improve later on when Decepticons finally show up on the scene.

6:00 pm - Blizzcon Over!
Well back from Anaheim finally, and the insanely fun Blizzcon.  Had lots of good time, yes.  And learned many many things about the future of Blizzard's games.  SO!  If anyone has any questions about Wrath of the Lich King, the Warcraft Movie, Starcraft 2, or any upcoming content for World of Warcraft, just send me a message and I'll try to give what info I can remember.

Until then, time to sacrifice innocents to my altar so my beta key will work sooner.

4:24 pm - I have returned?
Well suppose it has been awhile since I last actually posted meaningfull news here... course, could be because nothing meaningfull has actually been happening.  Go figure.

Anyways, suppose I can report now that I am starting a new full time job.  Been in orientation this week and training half of next week, then working for realsies.  For once though, the name of the position, Manufacturing Tech.... is a huge UNDERstatement of what I'll actually be doing.

I'm now working for Hynix Semiconductor just about 2 miles from my house, oddly enough.  Yes, making semiconductors, microchips... chiefly 1 gigabyte PC ram.  Easily one of the most high-tech things I have ever seen.  Working in a class one cleanroom in full body coverings.  (aka Bunny Suit.)  Operating all sorts of robots and machines.  Using (real life ones) plasma reactors, ion cannons, and stargate operations.  Can probably tell how geeky the naming can get there...

So far my impressions of the place are amazing.  It's a huge population of Korean ex-patriots so I might be picking up a bit of the language and culture from them.  Plus the cafeteria is half korean food... DAMN spicy stuff.  On top of that the place reminds me heavily of Doom 3.  Just well... with lights.  Robots everywhere, carriages on the ceiling, everyone's in spacesuits, yellow lighting half the place, and pipes EVERYWHERE.  I toured the support systems today (1 floor of production, 5 floors of support services for that production) and it was a maddening maze of pipes every way I looked.

That said it's probably the safest place I've worked.  And hell, never have to worries about allergies in a clean room.  And the benefits they'll give me after 6 months are amazing.  Full health, life, free dental and vision, 3 weeks vacation, and even a trip to Korea for the top workers.  The staff is super friendly and they have pretty high standards for people there.  Gotta be able to work with others well, and be pretty intelligent.

Now the downsides, as always.  One is obviously being in a clean room in a bunny suit, heh.  The other is 12-hour shifts.  Thankfully you only work half a week doing those, but still can be hard.  And no benefits for 6 months of working, which kinda sucks.  I need new contacts and a dental visit NOW. =P  And the pay isn't too glamerous, about $22k a year starting I think, before taxes.  I can get better later on though if I apply within the company for a promotion or transfer, etc.

We'll see how it goes.  Heck if I stay on they might even pay for me to go back to school to finish becoming an engineer so I can come back (or move to their develeopment in San Fran) and serve at a higher position there.  I think overall I'll have a good time though, just need to make sure I have good support in my shoes.  Plus I got stuck right at the beginning of the line, so if -I- break something, it doesn't mess up two months of work from others behind me, like at the end of the line, heheh.

Welp, got layed off tonight. Guess I was downsized. At least it isn't a huge impact to me since I can pay off the state now, get my transcripts, and start applying for grants and scholarships again. Can work some small job for operating costs and then go back to school in the summer.

Suppose this means I can play WoW more often too...

6:36 pm - Draft Dodging?
As some political savvy people may know here in the states now, there was a bit of a stint where we had one of the newly elected democrats say he was gonna bring up a proposal for re-instating the military draft. Well either way it's been shot down pretty thorougly anyways by all the leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Anyways, while a strait draft is out of the question, this does raise the debate about creating a Civil Service act. Something we see in most of the other democratic nations around the world. And something that might actually happen with our new progressive congress comming into power.

That said, I spent some time thinking about it during work today, since I'm all l33t enough to do that at the same time and all. Anyways, my idea of this act would kinda goes as follows:

1) Upon graduation from high school with a diploma or the reciept of a GED before the age of 24 and after the age of 18, all citizens will be required to serve one year (maybe two) in service to a government agency. Both genders, all races, all creeds.

2) People may choose to enter true military service for a tour of duty, instead of doing this service. Or be hired by a government agency in full, ie: CIA, FBI, Police, etc.

3) Otherwise more civilian duties can be assigned to them, partially based on their own preferences, how they score on a simple test, and positions open currently in their immediate area. Such positions can be in the TSA (airport security), border patrol, helping in veterans hospitals, public works such as meter readers, or any other number of various local and federal government agencies.

4) Upon completion of this service, all participants will be eligible for a large amount of monetary support from the federal government to offset (or even completely pay) the cost of going to a 4-year college.

Now for a tricky one...

5) In cases of EXTREME duress suffered by the country, individuals serving in the civilian service can be called up in a military draft for an immediate tour of duty. After such a tour these people will be eligible for the monetary benefits as if they had served their service time. Such an action would take 2/3rd's majority vote in both the senate and house, as well as a signature from the president. (This is just here as a big fallback in case some big-ass shit hits the fan, we'll suddenly have a 4-million strong army of both men and women.)

Well that's it really. If anyone wants to add their two bits in, be free too. I'm not really in favor or against it myself, but might be something we'll see in the future. And I'd rather be helping to shape it to something I'd like then otherwise.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In March I pulled [info]pegasus316's hair (-5 points). Last Thursday I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). In August I put gum in [info]ryu_'s hair (-12 points). Last Monday I gave [info]evionvixen a wet willie, then I took it back (-5 points). Last Friday I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [info]robatdt (-5000 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-4696 points). For Christmas I deserve a moldy sandwich!

Sincerely,
Ralter
