Since I posted it late yesterday, here it is again for good measure:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY
Six brand new strips, won't appear anywhere but right there, blah blah. Good times!
Those took up all the time I had for NN2S comics this week, so the next page of the story will go up on Monday. Everyone's getting together last minute merch to take to Fest with them, which means I am as busy as I've ever been trying to get a billion things done all in one week. None of which I can show you until later! But rest assured I am getting plenty done and I'm not just laying around all day drinking coffee and watching old Larry Sanders Shows.
Hey now. |

For those of you who have been jonesing (Did I just say "jonesing"? What am I, Aerosmith?) for some Nothing Nice comics in good old fashioned strip format, here's six brand new ones I made exclusively for MySpace Comics:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY
(btw, I assume they'll be fixing that thing so my name is spelled correctly at some point, but who knows) |

If you're going to Fest, it looks like Avi the Friendly Merch Guy will be joining my good friend Bryan Ohio for the weekend Bryan booked, or helped book, or however the hell that works. I don't know. What I know is they will be there and they will have copies of my new book at their merch table, you are more than welcome to stop by and pick some up. I think they're gonna have some other NN2S merch there as well, couple shirts, probably some buttons and stickers and the like. Plus, probably more importantly, they're gonna be hosting some really cool bands.
I don't know which venue or anything yet, so stay tuned, I'll keep you posted. In the mean time, there's still several other, faster ways to buy my book right now! |

I may or may not have mentioned this a while ago:
So Virgil from Vinyl Collective contacted me a while ago and told me about a series of records he's putting out. The series is called "Under the Influence", and will comprise of over a dozen split 7"s, each featuring a different band doing a cover of a band or song they consider influential to their sound. My beautiful fiancee Amanda and I, in turn, are making the covers for each of these, designed as parodies of the original album art. I can never think of how to explain that so it makes sense.
So I draw them, Amanda watercolors them, Virgil puts them out, and everyone dances naked in a circle like in the Wicker Man (the original, not that weird Nic Cage abomination from a couple years ago), and good times are had.
The bands involved and the songs they're covering are all being kept top secret, for the most part, so I can't tell you about any of them until Vinyl Collective announces them officially. So I can only show you two of the several we have so far, but here you go!
Kick it:

Good times, great oldies. There are some really, REALLY solid records coming up in this series (one in particular I absolutely cannot wait to hear, you'll know it when it comes), plus some art that I am quite proud of. Plus, it's super fun getting to collaborate with Amanda on something finally. My two favorite things in the whole world, drawing and Amanda, all rolled into one! It's a winter wonderland. Stay tuned! |

Alright! That time again:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY
At some point it dawned on me that doing what is the equivalent of four regular sized NN2S strips all at once with this new format, PLUS the fact that the storyline demands art more dynamic than two characters standing against a plain white backdrop, this is the most work I've ever had to put into any sort of comic ever, and adding several extra hours of work to color everything is just nonsense. So, I apologize any of you are disappointed, but honestly, I'm finishing this up right now and it's 4AM, if I'd have colored this I wouldn't be done until probably seven or eight. So yeah, no thanks.
The arc is moving along. I might do more than one update this week since I'm not bothering with color anymore, and since the next two pages are more story than comedy, so it might be best to crank those out quickly lest anyone get bored. Or offended. Or itchy.
BOOK NEWS!
In case you missed it over the weekend, MY BOOK IS OUT NOW!
I've been hearing from a lot of people that stores aren't ordering enough copies. By which I mean the few stores that bothered to order any only ordered one, and so it'll be bought by the time you might show up to buy it (unless you live in Australia and your bookstore ordered a hundred thousand and they still all sold out -- seriously, when the fuck did I get crazy famous in Australia? How did that happen?).
SO. What you need to do, if you want to get your hands on this book before everyone else does, call your local bookstore of choice on the phone and ask if they have a copy, and, if they don't, ask them to order you one. Every bookstore does this, and they'll call you when it comes in. You'd be wise to take this route before they all sell and there's none left for everyone (or, more likely, before none of them sell because bookstores aren't ordering them without provocation, and so no one buys them since they're not stocked anywhere, and then Dark Horse feels they've wasted their time and money on a failure of a book and I'm cast aside like yesterday's leftovers and OH GOD I CAN'T TAKE THE PRESSURE.
*ahem*
So yeah, please do that, please pick up a copy of the book.
ALSO, for those of you who preordered the book from my store, some stupid shipping problem happened and we got our books later than other stores. BUT. They are being sent out, and they all have the buttons, no worries. Thanks for being patient. |

| The first Nothing Nice to Say book is out NOW! |
[Sep. 25th, 2008|04:01 am] |

IT'S OUT!
Nothing Nice to Say by Mitch Clem. How about that. This book collects all the NN2S comics from 2006 through 2007 (the first two years that the comic was in black and white). There is also tons of bonus material, including the month's worth of Joe and Monkey I did at the end of 2005 that led to me resurrecting NN2S from the dead in the first place, several guest strips, some crossovers, an intro featuring several redrawn strips from the REALLY old stuff, and a bunch of original art. Also candy.
black and white, 128 pages, 7"x7", $9.95
TITLE: Nothing Nice to Say AUTHOR: Mitch Clem PUBLISHER: Dark Horse ISBN-10: 1-59582-150-3 ISBN-13: 978-1-59582-150-8
There are several ways to get your hands on a copy of this book:
1) Ask your local book store or comic shop if they have it, or if they can order it for you. It's distributed by Diamond, who distro pretty much every comic book that gets made, so anyone should be able to get it for you, be they an independent comic book store or a Barnes & Noble.
Odds are you'll probably have to call ahead and order it, though. I've heard from lots of people that they went into whatever book store and the one copy the store had ordered sold right away, if they ever had one in the first place. The fact is, no one knows who I am, no one's ever heard of my comic, bookstores seem unwilling to take a risk on my book, and so not a lot of people are keeping it in stock at this time. That said, CALL AHEAD, ask if they have it, if they don't, ask them to order it for you. That never takes longer than a couple days. I'm really sorry that you should have to put in any extra effort to buy this book, but I very much appreciate you doing so. Maybe if we sell enough copies, stores will start carrying it without being told.
2) You can order it online from the Official Mitch Clem Store (along with all kinds of shirts and paraphernalia, the proceeds of which go to feed starving cartoonists).
3) You can order it online from any number of other stores: - Amazon.com - TFAW - Powell's - Barnes & Noble - Borders - CANADA: Chapters - AUSTRALIA: Minotuar
I have a copy here, and, I have to say, it's really exciting to see this thing in actual print. These comics look considerably nicer on paper, the way they should be seen, rather than on a computer monitor. Plus now you have something to leave on your coffee table and, when you bring a date home, they'll see it and know you're cultured and you'll get some action GUARANTEED.
NOTE: Some online stores are still listing this book as being in pre-order stage. I assume that's just lazy people not updating their sites. The book wasn't supposed to be out for another month, but it got bumped up, and is definitely out now. So order away, everyone!
NOTE II: Some stores are listing this book as hardcover. There is no hardcover edition of this book, it is available in softcover only. There should be no pricing difference, I think this is just an oversight on part of some stores and shouldn't be anything to warrant concern.
And, on a personal note, thanks for all your support over the years helping me get this comic to where it is today, in glorious print. This has been my dream since I was a kid. My comics are everything to me, and your support is what makes this all possible. So thank you.
Now get orderin'! |

Hey um... this is akward.
Sounds like everyone thought I was all bummed out in my last post? Even Amanda. So, I just thought I'd clear up that I'm not. I appreciate all your kinds words, but I don't want to give the impression that I'm all discouraged about NN2S or that I was baiting for support or compliments or whatever. I love NN2S, it's keeping me on my toes. It hasn't been three months yet so it's not gonna make me go on hiatus again for a little while.
As for the hate mail, trust me, I'm used to it at this point, I'm sort of amused by it most of the time if anything. (The best thing lately was someone tangentially involved in creating the D4 album I made some jokes about got in a big tizzy because he thought I was rallying the world to not pay for that album somehow. I posted a couple of his letters on the forum if you want to read them, it's pretty ridiculous. You'd have thought he caught me fucking his wife without a condom.)
If you play you're cards right I'll make a collage of all the people who think me putting out a print edition of NN2S qualifies me as a "sellout". I've been waiting seven glorious years for someone to call me that. Garcon! Bring me a martini!
(you can, of course, order your copy of Nothing Nice to Say the book at Amazon.com, at the official Mitch Clem store, or wherever good comics are sold!)
The MSL comic I posted was in no way intended as a statement to any of my readers. I was making fun of people who draw webcomics. Including myself. That's all. No hidden subtext, I'm not mad at any of you for anything... I don't know how I gave that impression.
(I guess while I'm explaining jokes, the MSL I did before that, the joke wasn't that Amanda looked pregnant as everyone seemed to infer, it's that the shirt looked like something Juno would have worn. And it's not flattering for a 26 year-old woman to dress like a 16 year-old girl. I assumed it was apparent that the character showed more traits than being pregnant, but my bad I guess. P.S. Worst movie soundtrack of all time, I am officially 100% out of touch with teenagers.)
So, in summation, it seems I've lost my ability to clearly convey a message via the medium of comics. Am I slipping? Is this like Flowers For Algernon where I figured out how to be funny for a little while, and now I'm degenerating back into retardation?
Regardless, everyone please remain calm, everything is alright, nothing to see here. Move along, folks. Move along. |

NN2S has been back for less than two weeks and already the hate mail and internet drama is overwhelming. I forgot why I quit that comic every three months. Yeesh.
Sitting down to MSL felt like a night off:

MY STUPID LIFE
I've got some album covers done I'd like to show you guys, but I don't know if I'm allowed to yet, so it'll have to wait for now. Something to look forward to in your sad, worthless joke of a life. I mean... |

Hey, it's the punk rock one again:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY
Ideally I'd like to move this story along faster by updating NN2S more than once a week, at least until the arc is done, then take a little break before starting the next story arc. You guys have no idea how long these things take, though, these full page full color things. I'm talking hours upon hours. Seriously. I just finished this now and it's 6AM. Yeesh!
Okay, but that's that. Saw some good shows lately. Go see a good show. They're fun. |

[Sep. 19th, 2008|01:46 pm] |

I recently did an interview with Switchblade Comb, an online periodical co-helmed by my old friend Jeff from Minnesota. He put a picture at the top of the interview of me when I was 19 years old and had just started Nothing Nice to Say. Apparently he had been sitting on this photograph for seven years? That coffee shop I used to sit in back then doesn't even exist anymore. Neither does the hope of me ever being that thin again.
You can read the interview here. |

Alright, kids. It's about time I brought this one back, and I figured out a way to do it that would be as fun for me to make as it would be for you to read:

NOTHING NICE TO SAY
Long live the new NN2S full-color, full-page format! As of now, the comic will update once a week. That may or may not change in the future. And, yes, this is the beginning of a big ol' story arc, so sit tight and get ready. Blake and Fletcher are about to go on an ADVENTURE!
My Stupid Life will resume on Wednesday.
Happy birthday, me! What did you guys get me? |
