Damn, I just made a hella good latte. Vanilla syrup, cocoa powder, nonfat, Casi Cielo-->espresso, and some homemade whipped cream. mmmm. I also am trying to take the required sexual harassment training for ICC, but I can't find it. Le Sigh. My garden is free of weeds; I have eaten the first cucumber and the first carrots; I get about 1.5 zucchini a week; my bean plant finally got a clue and started producing beans; I have three peppers and one eggplant growing; we have plenty of lettuce and the tomatoes are almost keeping up with me eating them. I have decided that unless I am already at a grocery store with a car, I will do all of my grocery shopping in small batches by bicycle. This encourages me to be more creative with what I have in the house and spend less on groceries and gas. I am writing a whole lot on a project that I will never publish, but it's fun, so there. It looks like I'll be a sub at Bradley this fall. Not quite what I was hoping for but better than nothing! I need more hanging folders. I now have Adobe CS3. All of it. Thank you Patrick and GameCrazy. Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: REM - Losing My Religion |

magnetic resonance I have not yet lost a feeling of wonder, and of delight, that this delicate motion should reside in all the things around us, revealing itself only to him who looks for it. I remember, in the winter of our first experiments, just seven years ago, looking on snow with new eyes. There the snow lay around my doorstep - great heaps of protons quietly precessing in the earth's magnetic field. To see the world for a moment as something rich and strange is the private reward of many a discovery. Current Mood: contentCurrent Music: Alison Krauss - Stay |

My room is more or less finished... I need to get rid of a few things and add a few more, and maybe rearrange a couple items, but my bedroom is mostly done. (The apartment itself, however, is another story.) ( omgbedroom )I can't paint in this apartment, so the walls are going to be filled. I don't mind the white so much; it, and the two windows, help make it exceptionally bright. The only problem this has is during the morning. With apologies to other English majors When I was working on my degree, I couldn't help but feeling like this a lot of the time. One of the reasons I'm now going for biology. Current Mood: Deconstructed |

Rights and the lack thereof I am having a lot of fun with these Three for Thursdays, and I hope you guys are too. Like I've said before, you can feel free to answer just one or two questions if you don't have answers for all three. You can also go back and answer old ones, or see what other people have answered, by going here. I'm trying to answer every question, and to respond to everyone who answers questions, but I'm not always the speediest at this kind of thing. So it might take a while, but that's still my goal. I'm currently in the middle of a book called Little Brother, by Cory Doctorow. It's a spiritual, though not literal, sequel to 1984, and is oftentimes terrifyingly plausible. Some of that has influenced today's questions. 1. Benjamin Franklin has been quoted as saying, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." So where do you, personally, draw the line? Should people be free to shout "Fire!" in a theater when there isn't a fire? How about if there is? Should it be legal to voice threats to a specific person? What if that person is the leader of your country? There are the two extremes of a police state where no one is free but everyone is safe, and a pure anarchy where everyone is free to do anything they want (murder, torture, whatever), but no one is safe. Most people are probably somewhere in the middle; where are you? 2. The United States Declaration of Independence says that among people's inalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Now imagine that you have been captured by some sort of (highly advanced) enemy country, and they will permanently deprive you of one of those rights, but they will let you choose which one. Will you choose to be killed, imprisoned for life, or have technology implanted in your brain that prevents you from pursuing happiness? 3. If you could make an amendment to the constitution (or equivalent legal document) of your country, what amendment would you make, if any? |

I got an A in PSY403! Excitement, joy! Yay! I'm not sure what kind of crazy curve the teacher used, or if I'm just exceptionally bad at judging how poorly I do, but I apparently got 100 percent on the final. I'm pretty sure it's that crazy curve part. I'm glad it's done, but this current class is going so slowly. I'm still used to the "omghandcramp" speed from PSY403. Current Mood: accomplished |
