I am pissed. No, I am ashamed. I still cannot believe that we are being forced to use Visual Basic for our GUI practical sessions. I am ashamed not because we are being forced to use the darn thing, but because folks are using it happily. Have you guys in Bangalore even heard of Visual Basic?!

The “restaurant hopping” was supposed to happen today, but for reasons it didn't. Maybe sometime later.

In other news, I came across an article, “Instant Messaging - A Programmer's Tool?”, in the March '04 issue of DDJ. The title sounded interesting, but it's just decent. I don't know if it's available online.

By the way, I ported ljopml to Python. See the source here. It's not hosted anywhere at the moment.

My sister did her final yr. project in Visual Basic 6. Some Hospital Management UI and all. That was the yr. 2000 and she thought that it sucked. Seems there hasnt been much progress in the state universities in the past four yrs.
Thankfully, i am not a programmer. May you develop the tolerence you need to deal with this :)

We were asked to do our 6th Sem Database project using VB, but we refused. Did it using HTML/PHP :) VB Sucks.

vb,vc++, matlab, pythonwin .net, java, i think at this point in time, what tools you use is a non-issue. its how you think, dont get caught up with learning the syntax, or using one particular tool. if you are truly good, it should take you a couple of days at most to adapt yourself to some new tool. its a choice btn being a mason and an architect, you need both.

Of course, what programming language you use is a non-issue.

if you are truly good, it should take you a couple of days at most to adapt yourself to some new tool
It's not a question of “adapting” to a particular language. I *can* work on VB, but I don't want to, at least not now. VB *should not* be used by students; it's for no-brainers.

Well you r right. VB sucks. I used JSP with Oracle for my DBMS project. But my classmates still prefer something like VB. Guess what. I was asked by our branch councellor at college to forward some resumes to Wilson Pinto, CSI Mumbai Branch Councellor. I had to ask the groups for their preference. One group gave in VB/Oracle as their preference for a project and this guy it seems is the CR of his class. How crude and dumb. And these guys claim to be the CRs and toppers of their class. I have never heard about such dumb projects. They want to do their BE project using VB whereas I worked with ASP in my first year, JSP second yr and PHP third yr.

Another group wants JAVA as BE project. I did JAVA and J2EE(JAVA beans,RMI, EJB and all) when i was barely 17-18. And these so- called to-be engineers want such easy projects. SO sad and dumb. I'm ashamed to even send their resumes. Seriously speaking how the hell did such guys get into engineering. By cramming some books for hours i guess. Damn crappy.

/me did a project in queueing and inventory in html and javascript. it's a lot of fun doing an entire project in less than 8kb. Couldn't break the 5k barrier though, or I'd have submitted to the5k
