I got bored in the office and so, I tried reading Bakuman.
At first I didn't like the premise of "I will be a mangaka in order to win the hand of my dream girl". Because it's something what a shoujo lead would do i.e. 'I will draw romance manga but I have no ideas about love... therefore I will fall in love to make my manga better..!", "I will disguise myself as a boy, enter an all boy's dorm so I can meet with the guy of my dreams.." etc
It's pretty ridiculous when you think about it.
But Bakuman has some meat to the story. The intricacies and steps into writing/drawing, they were well done and you can tell a lot of it was a self-narrative of the writer and artist combo themselves. You can even consider this a mini-guide/how to for making your own manga... they give out cold hard facts about working in the industry.
That should pop some balloons on some weaboes' heads..Pretty interesting read and Obata's art is solid as ever, altho still retaining his Ral Grado style a bit.. I preferred his art during Death Note actually. Ral Grado was too cartoony for my liking.
There are only 8 chapters so now I'm bored again :(
I wonder what does the Bakuman in the title refers to..? Saiko and Shuujin's eventual manga?
