PSA on the California Gay Marriage ruling

  • May. 26th, 2008 at 1:17 PM
Nabbed from [info]chicken_cem, a number you can call in the Governator's office to voice your support for it, whether or not you're a California resident.

Details within )

And I mean the Target novelizations from when I was 12-ish, not the New Adventures, which live on my living room shelf. Except I forgot that alongside the Target novelizations, a whole bunch of random crap from college, some Strawberry Shortcake miniatures, and Avon: A Terrible Novel, lay the half of my fanzine collection that I hadn't long ago packed up and brought back to my own house.

Stolen from [info]rhi_silverflame most recently.

What we have here is the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you read for school, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish.

Yeah, not so many )

Also, new characters at FH, wheeeee!

Dear self: the reason your breakfast from the cafeteria you don't usually go to cost less than it usually does from the cafeteria you usually go to but which is out of kashi this week so instead you went to the cafeteria you don't usually go to, is that you forgot to get milk. On one hand, a buck cheaper. On the other, kashi and banana + coffee? Uh. Interesting. Edible, but interesting.

Hush, ye world-weary west-coasters

  • Apr. 18th, 2008 at 7:44 AM
....Huh. Earthquake. Nifty.

The freaky thing is it happened at 5:37 a.m. and I happen to have woken up about 3 minutes earlier and was heading for the bathroom, so I was standing in the middle of the room when it hit.

Basically wasn't much stronger than a low-flying plane, window-and-floor-rattling-wise.

And now for this important message:

* &hearts BFF *

That is all. You may now return to your regularly-scheduled programming.

I wish, for all that we played in the same game for two and a half years, that I'd known Monster better. I always enjoyed playing with her, but I hate that I only started to see what an amazing person she was when there was so little time left to get to know that.

I'm glad to have known her, and sorry that so many people I care about are having to say goodbye.

[info]maeyan, you NO can has this.

I'll just be putting my foot down NOW.

Much as I WANT IT.

Link courtesy [info]zortified who no can has it either. :-P

In other news, go [info]sunnydale_socks on their 5th sockiversary (technically it was Monday). I wasn't a Sock, but I followed it in the early days before [info]wes_visions_rpg had completely eaten my soul, and a great number of my friends from [info]fandomhigh turned out to be former Socks, much to my delight.

Now s'cuse me while I go try to wrap my brain around the fact that WV's 5th ..uh...frat joint o-versary*? Was sometime last June. That would be the first place I ever RP'd as Xander - though back in June 2002, I wasn't Xander yet; I started as Willow, and then we did a cast shift, very early on. Fandom High has a much smaller populace of Wesvisions-alums than we do ex-Socks, but there's three of us!

_
*Wesley, who was co-played by [info]thebratqueen and [info]wolfling, got passed around like one, depending on whether he was in a scene with Angel (also TBQ) or not.

Uhhhh - (Buffy Season 8 Thought)

  • Jan. 8th, 2008 at 6:55 AM
Updating my "Where my RP Xander's world took a left turn from canon" post led me to go, "Wait, what?" I'm not sure the thought hadn't niggled at me before, but apparently I let it slide until I actually had reason to poke myself (not dirty) about cause and effect.

Those of y'all who are current with BtVS Season 8 comics (actually, just up to the end of the first arc), riddle me this.

Spoilery question )

It may have been discussed in fandom already; I haven't really been hunting down meta on the comics. Or there may have been a reference that explains it in the text itself that I missed.

Sometimes Fandom makes me pleased

  • Jan. 7th, 2008 at 2:40 PM
This post, from beginning to end, makes me grateful and proud to be part of this community.

500+ comments on a Journalfen post, but it's not in Fandom Wank, and the only wank I've seen in that post is one comment, quickly shut down by the moderator, that implied a desire to take online issues offline.

The rest of it is people reporting, doing detective work, expressing sadness and sympathy at the death of a good writer and fellow fan, and disgust for the actions of one person who took advantage of that loss to plagiarize her fic and nonfiction LJ entries. (Whether it was plagiarism to get fannish love for work not his own, or a elaborate trolling to get attention - I suspect the latter - the despicable nature of it remains.)

And at the end of three days and a lot of complaints to LJ Abuse? That person's (almost completely plagiarized) journal is suspended.

You done good, fandom. (You done good too, LJ Abuse, which I suspect is something they don't hear a lot these days.)

No, not the one where I collect addresses, because I've quietly accepted the fact that I currently aten't organized enough to send out cards and haven't been for the last several years.

The one where I thank the people who sent them to me! I can has cards from [info]thebratqueen, [info]wolfling, [info]trepkos, and [info]darklightluna. Many thankeeeees!

ETA: *checks mail* And [info]wesleysgirl!

Too much free time, y/y?

Had wanted to wait until the full set of My Little Rangers (and My Little Kat) was done, but do you know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop? That's right - crrrrrrunch...one.

So I'm 1/4 of the way into the first episode of Charlie Jade, and so far my only commentary is, "Clearly the lighting director peered at seasons 3 and 4 of Angel from behind his couch, all the while shrieking, 'THE LIGHT! THE LIGHT! SINGLE BIRTHDAY CANDLE TOO BRIGHT! IT BURNS US!' "

Oh irony, you so funny.

Waaaaah. Dunwanna.

I miss [info]maeyan and mah kittiez, but dunwanna leave [info]kimera. Clearly the solution is that she must come home with me in my pocketses. Well, just one of them.

HI MP'S FLIST THIS IS [info]kimera I AM KEEPING HER FOREVERS YOU CANNOT HAVE HER BACK MMKAY.

I need to win great heaping gobs of monies in the lottery so I can fly halfway across the continent every weekend or so. *nods*

Highlights:

I has a Canadaphone! Because Virgin Mobile US and AT&T prepaid both suck rocks and have no Canadian roaming. So I folded and just bought a Virgin Mobile CA phone. Which, unshockingly, has American roaming.

Had pannekoek! Mmmmm, pannekoek. And far too much pasta from Boston Pizza, and had lunch at White Spot with [info]electrik, but did not order it in a pirate ship. :-( Next time!

Was not mistaken for [info]kimera's mother! Pagliacci's staff may have thought we were on a date, however. Oh noes!

Made pie! Did not explode [info]kimera's kitchen, though did bump my head on her cabinet doors several times. SHORT PEOPLE! *shakes fist* (This becomes funnier when you know that I'm 5'2".)

Watched mass quantities of Little Mosque On the Prairie, B5, Power Rangers In Space, Scrubs, Blackadder, Donald Strachey mysteries, a bit of Avatar, and...uh. Things. Which I am sure I will remember later. Ah - Big Eden and Hard Core Logo which I was brave and did not ask [info]kimera to turn off before the last bits. This may be due to having already seen the last bits in a vid, lalala.

There are still were Nanaimo Bars on the table! To eat before we leave for the airport! And then we ate them before I finished this post!

There is a Tim Horton's in the airport!

Other: Also I am thinking deeply about this, despite it being a Creation Con and thus costing a bazillion dollars per air molecule breathed on the premises, because well, Nicky.

Other Other: Stalkery-memeey thingy.

ETA: 1. There are 5.5 meatballs still in the fridge. (And about 4 nanaimo bars, I thinks.) 2. [info]kimera has called a taxi to come and take us away to the airport. 3. Can it be Comic-Con 2008 tiem nau?

crazy

Oh, for [insert here]'s sake.

This is not the latest LJ update to their policies on adult-content in journals. It's the policy that has existed since 2004. Someone in fandom just finally stumbled upon it for some reason (or got reported under it) and again with the sky falling.

ETA: And it's not. Falling. What this policy says: IF you are reported for having someone under 18 on your friendslist AND you post primarily stuff that LJ deems pornographic, THEN you will be warned by LJ staff, AND you will have 72 hours to lock the porn and remove any stated minors and/or people who don't list a full birthdate from your friendslist.

Yes, LJ/6A have handled things incredibly badly and seem likely to continue to do so, but can fandom please try looking at the things we read so when we argue with idiots, we don't come off looking like idiots ourselves?

(ETA again - I'm not saying that pointing these policies out and encouraging people to be aware of them is idiotic - far from it. But it's not new, and it's seriously not a bad policy - it is in fact hugely better than the strikethrough related ones because it gives very very detailed descriptions of what will happen and the several chances a user will have to correct the problem. So please, fandom, to be actually reading them, rather than just reacting to their existence.)

This cranky PSA brought to you by dealing with the tech support moron who is failing to fix my Photoshop problem in spectacularly moronic ways, up to and including not letting me go to lunch yet because she keeps calling back to take over my computer again and try something else I have already tried and could tell her I've already tried it if she'd kasjdhlaksjdhka listen.
