Talking To Myself

| Jul. 23rd, 2007 06:49 pm On the off chance you're in New York this weekend... I'm performing on Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm. You will either get to see me execute some moves that I never thought I could do, or you will get to see me fall flat on my face. Either way, it'll be a good time. This http://www.dnadance.org/nydi.html is the link explaining the summer intensive and choreographers (not that anyone asked, but just in case you're curious) and this http://www.dnadance.org/performances.html#nydi is this link explaining the performance and tickets.
Let me know if you want to come and I'll most probably take care of getting you a ticket- Because I'd love to see any of you guys there! Current Mood: leaving for rehearsal

| Jul. 1st, 2007 09:35 pm Hooray for wireless internet Got here, went to orientation and took an advanced modern class with an awesome dance teacher. This hostel is run by a Chinese family and only has a few rooms. Mine has three sets of bunk beds; I assume the others are similar. Thus far there is a Japanese girl in the bunk above mine and two boys (no idea where they're from) have come in, moved some of their stuff around, and left.
Happily, there are some U of I dancers taking the intensive: three will-be-juniors (Lauren, Erin, Kim), one will-be-sophomore (Caroline), and one will-be-freshman (Amanda). Unhappily, I'm not close with any of them, though I do get along with Erin pretty well. Tomorrow is "preview classes", which means a one and a half class with each of the three choreographers who will be choreographing for the intensive. Tuesday is auditions. I'll worry about that after tomorrow.
I get to make my own schedule! Other than a mandatory 10-11:45 M-F class and rehearsals I get free classes whenever I want... which also means I get free time whenever I want. Therefore, if you're in NYC and want to hang out, call or email me and it will happen.
Caitlin, if you see this, what are you doing on Wednesday? The dance studio is closed that day. Wanna meet up somewhere? Current Mood: if I sit up I will hit my head

| Aug. 17th, 2006 09:55 pm Snapshots During ballet class, taught by Laura (dancer in the company):
Laura: I think it was Samantha yesterday who was telling me she had too much of a butt to have proper alignment, but it's okay to have a butt. I have a little round booty. Amy (company director/dancer) has a round booty. The only one with no booty is Lynch.
Christina Lynch (dancer in the company): *sad little voice* awww.... she's right. *normal voice* But I have the best legs!
Laura: That's true she has amazing thighs and calves.
-----------
After Chad (Amy's husband and dancer in the company) and Natasha (dancer in the company) have busted in and danced with us during a rehersal:
Amy: See, it can be done! You just need more character, more faces, moremoremore! Take a lesson from these two, *points to Natasha* Ham and *points to Chad* Cheese!
Chad: *bursting into a split lunge behind her with his arms thrown up in the air* ON WHITE BREAD!!! Current Mood: tomorrow is the showing! Current Music: people talking in the hostel lobby

| Aug. 10th, 2006 07:36 pm Just a note to say I'll be in late tomorrow night for the weekend- I'm leaving for NYC on Sunday and from there I go directly to school. So, the point is, if you're free, give me a call, because I would like to hang out.
Things learned today:
1. Apparently it's very funny to act drunk when country music is playing in the background.
2. People who don't know how to partner other dancers should not catch people falling from high heights. Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: U2 on my headphones

| Apr. 20th, 2006 01:26 am Everyone's energy has been way down lately (my own included), so I thought I'd post something... well, I don't know what to call this, so let's just term it "cheer-up-ish".
laurenG85: Bush looks like a koala! LittleForestElf: True. LittleForestElf: He's like this koala. This STUPID koala. laurenG85: A KOALA CAN DECLARE WAR IN THE US! LittleForestElf: Not if we take away their eucalyptus trees. LittleForestElf: Then they'll spend all day trying to find other sources of drugs. LittleForestElf: because basically koala just sit in a tree all day and eat leaves, which get them high. So it's a good comparison to the president. laurenG85: Bahahaha LittleForestElf: And Lauren. I know something about drugs. Especially crack. And Leaves, those are my second most favorite narcotics. laurenG85: bahahahaa laurenG85: oh Janis laurenG85: you're this addict LittleForestElf: It's true. LittleForestElf: I'm not going to deny it. LittleForestElf: It's like my being the leader of the nudist revolution. It took time to embrace, but now that I have accepted and embraced my role, I embrace it fully. laurenG85: So true laurenG85: you're such a noble nudist drug addict Janis laurenG85: not to mention a very talented seal as well Current Mood: PHYSICS OF DOOM!!! Current Music: Beth's computer

| Dec. 18th, 2005 03:06 am Late, but Late with Love Nothing much to say. You are loved and let's be friends for 20 more years (or longer). P.S. I thought I brought home my picture files, but they're actually back at college so I had to improvise.

| Nov. 21st, 2005 02:14 am I'm soooo home. And I forgot to remind anyone. I'm back for thanksgiving break! (Yes, we get a whole week because we rule. And because we don't have any other holidays in the fall semester.) I'm working at Anthropologie a few days and I've got family stuff to do, but other than that:
HANG OUT WITH ME!!!
Because I've missed everyone.
For real. Life has been crazy lately and I'm glad to be home. Current Mood: goodnight! Current Music: nada

| Sep. 7th, 2005 12:17 am Color Me 20 Edit: LAUREN RAPPED FOR ME!!!! EMINEM!!! LAUREN!!!!! <3!!!
I've never been very good at Birthdays. But I think I may be steadily improving. It was a pretty good day- actually it was pretty great. I went to ballet and had a good class (a great adagio!). We didn't do much in music theory except listen to each other's "compositions" of found objects. (Among the instruments: plastic bags, rubber ducks, and quarters.) Went to chem lab, where we discovered that 2 plots of data were unusable, then discovered it didn't matter, and then discovered that our error margin was very small. Anyway, that must have been good because the TA took our group aside and asked for a copy of our excel spreadsheet to use as a model. I also got out early, which was a nice birthday present to myself. Then another ballet class, which went okay. Then some hanging out, followed by going to the laundromat (I actually ran out of dance clothes so I had no choice but spend my birthday doing laundry.) I got a bunch of calls from family. My mom and dad visited this past weekend. We talked, saw a movie, they took me out to dinner- it was really laid back. Thanks to Sergio/Jessica for calling- I got the messages after chem lab and they made my day! <3 to the people who posted happy thoughts on livejournal (Caitlin!)! My apartment-sharer, Beth, surprised me a beautiful white mum (flower) and the cutest card (a dog with a hat will always win me over). It's nice to actually be friends with the person you live with. Like I said, normally something not-too-great happens on my birthday. But -knock on wood- everything was great today. I'm doing a lot of thinking about life and where mine is going (in a good way), and it was fantastic to have a relaxing, but still special, day.
2 decades. 2 freaking decades.
P.S. If you're looking for my address: Log in and look at my last post (most of my posts are friends only), down at the bottom. Current Mood: happy Current Music: silence- but I saw a racoon outside earlier

| Mar. 15th, 2005 12:32 pm Random Political Aside I know, I know, no one wants to hear about this, so I'll make it short.
There is a bill before the Senate that would allow drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. It will probably be voted on in 24-48 hours. Most republicans are going to vote for it. It will pass unless the public is so against it that it makes some senators abstain from voting.
So, please, take one minute and put your name down here. If you want, just give an old email that you never use anymore.
Seriously, it takes about 20 seconds.
If you want more info on why you should do this, it's under the cut. ( Read more... ) Current Music: Must leave for class...

| Jan. 30th, 2005 10:42 pm Sorry guys, but I'm going "Friends Only" for a while. I just kinda have to. So if you're not on my friends list (and, for some god-forsaken reason, you wish to be), let me know and I'll add you. Leave a comment | |

| Jan. 19th, 2005 11:31 pm Illinois. Is. Cold. Yes, it's true: I'm now mostly settled in Illinois. It took forever and so that's why I've been pretty much unreachable. But school started Tuesday so now I'll be around and such. As for classes, I'm excited about all my dance classes (7 ballet classes a week!), slightly less afraid of Pilates, loving my "Grimm Fairy Tales in their European Context" course, and scared to death of Differential Equations. It all balances out in the end.
Oh! Everyone please give me your addresses so I can write lots and lots of letters and keep myself busy! Even if you think I know your address, give it too me again. And even if you think I don't want to write to you, this is a lie and I probably do want to send you a note. But for this to happen I need your address!
ADDRESS!
P.S. I miss you all like crazy, of course. Thanks for this past semester. I'm not entirely sure what that exactly means, but I think it pretty much captures the sentiment. <3 Current Mood: Missing Everyone Like Crazy Current Music: none, but I think I'll go put some on

| Jan. 5th, 2005 03:42 pm First (and last) vague livejournal post ever. Well, now I just feel like a terrible human being. Damn it. I mean, I have really lowered the par for decent human behavior this time. Well... it wasn't intentional and it wasn't even my doing. Still... damn it.
I guess I'll just have to go save a bunch of orphans to redeem myself.
To Do List:
1. Feel awful about this. 2. Take a nap. 3. Clean room. 4. Save orphans. Current Mood: damn it.

| Dec. 5th, 2004 03:13 am Various Notes -Apparently I'm really good at restocking at work. Or I'm really fast. Or something. Anyway, it's good.
-We're doing nuclear chemistry in chem class and our teacher brought in uranium. Radioactive materials are SWEET. (Did you know that some people collect radioactive pottery? How's that for a death wish?)
-I was thinking of Franky so I stopped and bought him his iced tea. I miss him so bad.
-My dad apparently thinks I'm ruining my life. And my mother is mad at me too. Good times at my house.
-My brother got hit in the face with a hockey sitck at practice. Again. Four stitches at the corner of his mouth.
-Free, open-to-the-public contact improv tomrrow!!! 11:30-2:30 at Artomatic in DC. SO excited! Current Mood: grateful Current Music: Lauren talking to me.
