happy birthday to two girls who i have gotten along with better than most people i've ever known: lindsay and arinn.
gen and britt both have birthdays on sunday and numerous other people that i really really like have recently had or are soon having birthdays.
i love you, libras! thanks for being so patient with my self-indulgent, somewhat-bulldozerlike qualities... and for understanding me so well. thanks for being so cunning, charming and interesting. all of you are devious and beautiful people.

i like posting photos... but i don't do it for a long time and then it becomes kind of overwhelming. these photos are all from july and august. many of them were taken at the studio, where i spent a lot of time this summer. good times all.
edited to add: argh, a lot of these apparently didn't upload to my website properly - which sucks because they're definitely gone to the ether now. :( i'm really sad. i think i still have the originals around but it's very frustrating. i lost a LOT of things in the grand computer switch - consolidating the contents of TWO computers to ONE new computer in a grand total of three hours... yeah, lots of failed transfers. :( sorry.

( here we go. studio days... )
( amanda's art show )
( summer days )
( britt and i helped her mom cater a wedding )
( i took photos of b )
( home adventures with amanda )
( mud masks from lush )
coming soon... warped tour, studio party and some random photos of me.

without a doubt, THE BEST MYSPACE PRETENDER EVER.
this happens to me pretty often - people download my photos and make profiles on myspace pretending that the pictures are of them. this one, though, takes the cake. she's got TONNES of friends, and i've honestly never seen such a comprehensive collection of photos of me in one place before. they're from all sorts of places. this person must have gone to pretty much every website i have a profile on and gone through all of my pictures. it's such dedication! there are photos on there that i'm not even sure where they have been posted. check out the friends section... you might be in there, albeit with a new name and story.

Take a picture of yourself right now.
don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair... just take a picture.
post that picture with NO editing.

sundaymorning afternoon unshowered.

In 2004, I purchased my very first Mac laptop. She was a 15" Titanium Powerbook (TiBook) G4, and I called her The Red Queen - my iPod peripheral device was named Claire. I used The Red Queen until July 2005, when I sold her to a friend.
In July 2005, I bought The White Queen, a 14" iBook G4. My iPod peripheral during her life was named Emma, my external hard drive was Frost, and my network was called The Hellfire Club. The White Queen has lasted me more than three years, but her time has come to an end.

I'd like to introduce you to The Hive Queen, a 13" MacBook (Blackbook). I'll be naming my new external hard drive after her caretaker, Ender, and I think I'll call my network Jane. She weighs approximately 2.25kg, or 5lb.
hint: it cost me about $0.72 per gram, or $20.25 per ounce.
it's not something that's usually sold by weight.
the person providing an answer closest to the correct one will be rewarded with a gold star.
eta: nobody guessed. it's the hive queen, my new macbook.

i'm so excited for fall. i need more sweaters.
this is how my mother taught me to make hashbrowns out of shredded/grated potato. they end up being cakelike, greasy and delicious.
potatoes, grated into strips with a regular-sized cheese grater
oil, vegetable or olive
salt and pepper
heat a liberal amount of oil in a non-stick skillet. you want oil over the entire bottom of the pan.
add the potatoes in a thin layer. if you add the potatoes to hot oil they will cook visibly immediately. once the bottom is browned, flip them out onto a plate and then back into the pan to brown the other side. add salt and pepper.
repeat until all potatoes are cooked. keep cooked potatoes in a warm oven to keep them ready for serving.
serve with ketchup and other breakfast favourites.

this morning i was talking on the phone with my mother, asking her the best way to make shredded-potato hashbrowns, when i stopped in mid-sentence because i saw this:

the fixie fairies came in the night and installed beautiful pink velocity deep-v rims on my nishiki.
( +3 )
it was my birthday gift from this heavenly creature.

thanks homies for your collaboration with my sneakster of a lady. i'm so stoked. my cheeks hurt from smiling this morning.

holy shit! i'm going to seattle tonight and i don't have a place to stay!
this guy painted me. well, used a photo of me as a reference, anyway. his oils are SO GOOD and so fucking creepy. love it!
speaking of paintings, i'm selling a couple through sg.
( you wanna buy them? i'm broke. )

happy birthday over the next month to all of my fellow leos. purrrr.

my birthday is on the twelfth august, i'm turning twenty-three. it is not such a monumental age to turn. i might, however, wax poetic on how i have wrinkles and bags under my eyes now.
probably from all the coffee and late nights, not from aging.

within the last week my old workplace has meta-posted (digg, twitter, blog, more) about the BACONATOR (7 hamburger patties, 14 strips of bacon), eaten by our developer wes... and then today someone baked and brought in bacon caramel chocolate chip cookies which they are all raving about.
i wonder if they'd be doing all this if i still worked there. i also wonder how often "good thing mal isn't here!" gets thrown around.

our home
( and our studio? )
on saturday i want to ride my bike to bellingham, WA, to go to trader joe's. i'm just talking to a guy who came to pick up his work from the gallery/studio and he said that he can make it to bellingham in an hour from the border. the process of getting to the border is relatively simple - the bus in white rock goes to within eight blocks of peace arch crossing.
theoretically, if i left fairly early, i could get to bellingham around lunchtime, and then ride home that afternoon after a fruitful (ha-ha) visit to TJ's.
now, the real question is: should i do this on my fixie with no rack/panniers? dare i ride that distance with a heavy backpack pulling on my shoulders, creaking bars and a warped back wheel? and can i convince anyone to come with me?
