7:58 am - Convocation Ceremony

Yesterday. (yay! it's overrrrrr!!!) >D
Donned the shapeless graduation robe and truncher (that gave me such a stupid headache! D: ), went up on the stage of the Grand Hall @ UniSIM Campus HQ, shook hands with the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Open University (UK), posed for the horde of official cameramen congregated, made small talk - or tried to, fake-smiled, and received from his hands my Graduation Certificate.
All these took... one glorified minute. hurhur and hur. (one minute that had my mum in uber-excited mode for days on ends and making a great big deal out of everything...that, plus her new camera phone which had her so fascinated! ...thereby resulted in her being ULTRA!trigger-happy! =_= )
yeah well...if she hadn't made such a big deal I wouldn't even want to attend the damn ceremony...
but well... have my cert. Am an official graduate of the OU with a BSc in Psychology with major Business electives AND majoring in cross-cultural industrial & acculturation psychology... I AM OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED TO SCREW WITH YOUR BRAINS MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
well too bad the dumb uni. course don't offer Abnormal or Criminal Psych as module options for the BSc Psych Degree... but ah well... there's always Masters degree if i am up to it in the (near) future... or I can always read up stuff for fun like i've always been doing since I was little... kufufufufufufu!!!
2 whole days away from work to prepare for aforementioned dumb glorified one-minute... i dread to think what kind of work load have piled up...

1:37 pm - so apparently i am abit of a jinx around technological stuff?

...(and now I am reduced to coming to the office to leech its internet *sadded* )
first my Samsung monitor dies...in which the problem now, after plugging in another monitor to try out on my PC and it WORKS...has been determnined as being a defective Samsung monitor and nothing else wrong with my graphic card/hardware/etc (PHEW!!)...
...well now, this morning - actually starting last nite - my Internet connection seems to be down too. No connection at all whatsoever detected. (on the modem the power + ethernet + PC/USB lights are on and steady, the DSL light is on but constantly blinking/flickerng...but there's absolutely no lights on the "Internet" portion)... hence = no-connection.
Called up Singnet Technical helpdesk in the morning for assistance and the problem remain unresolved after 20+ min on the phone with the technician... =_= Have an appointment where one of the technicians will drop by my place tmr to do a thorough check + dianogsis + repair where necessary... (and Singnet better not expect me to sign up any new crap plans whatsoever... GRRR!)
but then again... my question here is:
IS ANYONE ELSE ON MY FLIST WHO ARE SINGNET USERS/SUBSCRIBERS ENCOUNTERING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR INTERNET CONNECTIONS AS WELL THE LAST FEW DAYS? (according to a colleague who's also a Singnet user, she'd been having unstable connection or temporary non-connectivity the last couple of days too).

10:40 am - some updates...
|
what with my recent monitor problem and all...I'm totally going into withdrawal and developing some sort of anxiety complex what with not being able to see my daily dosage of fangirly stuff that helps keep my sanity (what's little bit that's left) anchored... in the end, kooped my father's monitor and plugged in... and viola! gratification!! (even if it's temporary...until i call up Samsung technical support and bitch at them for selling me defective products tmr grrr! T_T )
what i've been up to.... (besides work work work.... OTL) this week past...
1. day off yesterday - spent most of the day out with ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) i_am_zan and her 2 little angels, running around arab street buying stuff for their EOY costume. Twas' fun...altho' i must admit i am still not very good nor comfortable hanging around kids. =P
2. Parentals back from their China trip. I can now at least lay down the role of "aneki" (which includes laundry and meals and stuff...perks of being the eldest kid in the family hurhur) and have a bit of breather! phew!!
3. battling this flu/sinus/runny nose/sore throat thingum that's going on-off-on-off... wants to take MC or something but afraid work will pile up OTL...
4. got off the shock (well almost) of "OMG! REN IS DEAD!!" (my prev wangsty post should be spoilery enough...)...but i still cannot find it in myself to forgive Yazawa Ai for removing him in this cruel manner D:
5. FURISODE = WEAPON TO K.O. DRUNK OSSANS WHO TRIES TO SEKUHARA YOU!! (Nat & Lili! "Geisha" IS A MUST-BUY!!!!) XDDD
6. カフェ吉祥寺で (Cafe Kichijouji de) by Negishi Kyouko TV dramatised!! Season starts 29th Sept 2008 (tmr lah). Kato Kazuki acting in it. ALtho i think from my brief browsing thru' the official TV Tokyo website the plot got changed abit... D: But anyway...something to look forward to. XD
7. LAST DAY TODAY! for anyone still interested in pre-ordering their Kodansha manga 2009 calendars. Titles include Nodame Cantabile, Shugo Chara (two types - wall + table-top) & Chi's Sweet Home (two types - wall + table-top).
and that's all for now...
*slumps off to work...* F1 race tonite i don't wanna imagine what sort of insane hoo-ha's that'd be in the cityhall area tonite... D: but hopefully it'd be quite by evening since almost everyone would be running off to watch (or attempt to watch) the races.

in other news...the monitor of my home PC kinda died on me and until I find out the reason why (i have barely bought that Samsung LCD monitor for less than a year!...6 months at most...) and solve it (few people I discussed with and we suspect the following: 1) circuitry problem = not enough power; 2) VGA card problem; 3) need to update driver)...so until then don't expect me to update/read LJ that frequently or be on MSN...... *sobs, suddenly feels alienated* GAAAHHH AND THIS HAS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE NEW AUTUMN ANIME SEASON IS STARTING SOON TOO!!! GRRRRR!

so I called up a customer to inform him that his magazine subscription is in store, ready for collection, blah blah...
and when the call connected I went "Hi,I'm calling from Kinokuniya Bookstore. Can I speak to Mr. Takasugi...-opps, sorry, I mean Mr. Takasaku Kei please?"
and Mr. Takasaku laughed and said (in excellent/fluant American-accented Eng): "Hey! It's you again. I recognise your voice! Yeah...so my magazine's in? Great! I'd pop by this weekend to pick 'em up!. Anyway... just curious... why do you ALWAYS call me Mr. Takasugi? (laughs)"
Me: "it's just a slip of of the tongue. I'm so sorry about that." (laughs with, sheepishly)
We exchanged a few other random pleasantries and stuff... and then ended the call.
*HEADDESKS*
ZOMG, this wasn't the first time... (and I suspect it won't be the last either...) that I've called this particular customer "Mr. Takasugi"... and for him to actually remember me by my voice alone... *dies*
I reckon... the slip of tongue prolly happened coz' in accordance to certain rules of thumb in the cognitive psychology of of languages and linguistics, the human brain remembers certain combinations of nuances better than others... and that's why methinks I kept calling the aforementioned Mr. Takasaku as "Mr. Takasugi". Haha.
On the other hand...well... if we want to blame this on fandoms (ahems...we all know which one - grins), it's then pretty much obvious why I made the booboo I did. *laughs* Then again... since said fandom tied closely with some (butchered) historical-personality references.... it just might be that the historical Takasugi's first name was "ShinSAKU" instead of Shinsuke... hurhurhur. So...mixing up one with the other... I naturally just blurted out "Mr. Takasugi" instead of "Mr. Takasaku". hurhur (why does it seem like I am defending myself? LOL!)
Shin-chan, damn you! but my love for you is strong! Can??!

12:00 am - Hello kiddies! NO S & M PLAY IN MY BOOKSTORE PRS!!!

i am not kidding...
kids love the floors of Kinokuniya LC... and I can't for the hell of me understand why. We always have kids lying down/roll around on the floors whilst their parents browse books/magazines...
and today was the ultimate.
I walked out of the office after lunch (the staff pantry takes up part of the space in the office) and first thing i see...?
two kids - a girl and a boy - with the boy (younger by the looks of it) lying on his back on the floor... and the girl...standing over/semi-straddling him... and mock-slapping him or playing punching him in the face...
and he kept shielding himself from her punches and crying "Onee-chan yamete...hahaha yamete!" (stop, sis, stop)...
I kinda made a very obvious O_O face at the display of er....whut? affection?? And the best thing was? whilst the mock play/fight/SM-play was happening, the kids' parents were nonchalently browsing books at the counter......

It's more like... when one hears random snatches of conversation as pertaining one's department or in-charged section...one naturally perks up and pay attention.

But I also know FOR A FACT that Geass and Death Note are in no way related or similar whatsoever! I am really amused and seriously curious as to where her frens and her get their ridiculous notions that the two are similar... =_= *sweats*.
Moral of the story/this entry? Noob conversations are really fun to listen in to....if one can rein in the instinctive (and overwhelming) urge to:
1) point at them & laugh in their faces (this is practising good social graces here...plus we can't let them know we are laughing openly at their utter stupidity lest they stop doing it and we get no more entertainment D: )
2) face-palm or head-desk
3) grab said noobs/wannabes and shake them till their teeth rattle in their heads (since it's hollow or lacking a functional brain)
4) grab them and perform serious bodily damage to them... (then they become more stupid = no fun since entertainment gets cut off too!)

all because of this stupid magazine Numero Tokyo. Oct 08 issue (released over last weekend) comes with some freebie Louis Vuiton monogrammed MOUSEPAD. and all because of said stupid LV mousepad (i still can't get over the extreme incredulity that it IS a mousepad of all things), we are all being hounded and driven to the brink of near insanity or murderous exasperation but the number of people calling up /coming directly to the store to ask about the damn mag... AND ALL OF THEM MEN. AND ALL OF THEM GHEI-ER THAN ONE CAN EVER HOPE TO BARGAIN FOR. And the way they bitch/nag/lecture/plead/implore/threatened to lodge complaints/etc etc etc.... =_= THEY NAG WORSE THAN YOUR REGULAR (DESPERATE) HOUSEWIVES AND EVERYONE'S MOTHERS AND GRANDMOTHERS PUT TOGETHER!!!
