I turn 34 tomorrow. In an effort to get my moving savings up even higher than before, I'd love it if in lieu of gifts, you could donate to my moving fund.

Help a gal out?

Please Donate - I need every scrap I can get!

You know what I miss about "Web 1.0?" When the browsers crashed you, not the webpages.

4:36 am - Traveler, if there is no path to your goal, make your own path, step by step.
Story snippet I needed to write down:

Andrea:"This wasn;t what I expected. This wasn't what I wanted."
Hanna: "When we were lost in the moutains, Father Legh passed his rule to Brother Ukat, he told Ukat that he believed that Arios City was forever lost to us. Then gave one sentence of advice that had guided him over the years: 'Traveler, if there is no path to your goal, make your own path, step by step.' Our tribe never found home, but we found our future."

I need to get throught the reruns faster. I'm itching to write this again.

11:22 am - I was once offered Mel Gibson's body by a major magazine.
12 Days to go, 4 more days of work.

According to Dad, the pickup is fixed. New engine tubing, fresh oil & oil filter, cigarette lighter is working now, muffler's been replaced. According to Dad the truck is running better than his (I can attest to that) and has at least another two years of gentle driving on it. He thinks it'll make it to Seattle with no problems. I'm going to have Emily check his work, (especially since he said "I got the cigarette lighter working! You should see how I managed it!")

Grocery shopping for the trip has started - I've got Gwen's Famous Dave's sauce, but not anything else yet. I'm wondering if I should simply buy Dublin Dr. Pepper from the website, or drive around East Texas buying out stores I know that carry it.

On one hand, buying from the website, you get them in 8 ounce glass bottles in six pack carriers, but anyone can buy from the website. On the other hand, driving around East Texas you can get 20 ounce plastic bottles of the stuff. Gwen, Kisai, Lissa! How do you want these? 20 ounce plastics? Or 8 ounce glasses with carrier?

Also, anyone know if packages mayonnaise will keep in hot temperatures if the original seals on the containers aren't broken? It works for MREs, but they're cooked IN the packages.

A cigarette lighter plug for my phone and laptop are on their way. According to my time sheet, I have 8 hours of Paid Time Off, 8.32 hours of Vacation and 14 hours of sick leave. I know I'm not getting the sick leave, and I AM getting the Vacation time (Extra day! WHOOO!), but I'm not sure if I get the PTO as well. It'd be nice to have yet ANOTHER day of time on there. Maybe I'll work through lunch the next few days and try to make up the difference.

Comics are done until I'm in Seattle. Next week there'll be a Wishworld update, and the comic update will simply be a map of our travels and how to view the gallery pictures once they're up. The gallery, by the way, is setup and ready (http://dolari.dragondata.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2046), although we're still waiting on news about Fresno and wether we'll spend the extra day in Las Vegas or not.

Las Vegas DOES worry me, but only for a few hours - we'll be stopping to see the Star Trek Experience while we're there - but at the same time, checkout at the motel is Noon. So while we're at the Experience, everything will be sitting in the cab of the pickup, ripe for the pickings. I'm considering buying an extra day at the hotel, just so I can stay late and leave my stuff there. The doors will be locked, and if there's anythign I've learned, the windows on the pickup are a PAIN to break. I'll just have my clothes and my laptop with me. My bike will be in the back locked down, but I'd hate to lose (literally) the clothes off my back.

The only bump on the road right now is I can't seem to get cash out from one of my credit cards cause the PIN number is wrong. I've requested a new one, but that may get to me later than I'll be here. If worse comes to worse, I'll pull off my cash reserves, but I'd rather not (My plan ius to do the trip on credit, keep as much cash on me for as long as I can paying minimum payments+interest, and then on my first paycheck, use my savings and paycheck to wash the credit cards clean...sure hope I find a job but quick).

I'd been wanting to go to Katz' Deli one last time before I left, cause I really like the food AND the ambiance...since I've been to Austin, I've gone to Katz' maybe four times, mainly because of money issues. But this time I wanted to take some friends out for Good Eats. I got [info]audacious_d, his girlfriend Jill and [info]erinlefey together and we all had a good time, punctuated by Mark Katz himself, in full Car Dealer mode, showing us to our table. What a character - I'm gonna miss Austin.

There's a Hurricane out there, what a way to welcome Emily to Texas. :)

And now you're updated.

WHAT AM I DOING?!?!?!

Okay. All you folks out there on the West Coast....what do you want me to bring? Gwen! Amy! Jenn! Amanda! Erin! Lissa! Jessie! Kisai! THIS MEANS YOU!

I'm already getting a case of Dublin Dr. Pepper for Gwen, and Kisai each, and prolly Big Red for Amy. ANYTHING y'all want me to bring from this side of the Rockies?

10:07 am - "That can't be a real word!" "You're not just being derivative, you're being second derivative."
The closer it gets to the end of my time here at work, the more I realize how good everyone has been to me over the last two years, and how much this company is less a group of employees, and more a family. I haven't felt this good about a job since I worked at Swan in 1997, and the closer I get to leaving, the more I realize how good a job this really was. Even if it was tough in the past. When I first got here, we were struggling, and everyone, literally EVERYONE, put 120% to keep afloat. Now we're on firm ground, our stuff is working well, the company is not just staying afloat but charging forward. I'm actually regretting going at this point.

I have Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday off. Sunday as usual is comic day. I figure there'll be a comic on the 21st and the 28th. On the 4th, we'll have daily updates from the road via Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/dolari), and hopefully at the Photo Gallery (http://dolari.dragondata.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2046 - right now just a few maps, we're still working out some of the days), linked from the main comic pages. We may be able to to get the pics posted in almost real time - if I can get a signal with my sidekick, the memory card from the digital camera fits right in, and I can update Gallery from the web browser....

Emily flies down on the 24th (Assuming the postal service gets moving on her tickets). The 25th is my last day at work. The 26th-31st is packing and visiting friends (Definately some Erin and Marca time, if possible, and anyone else in Austin/San Antonio!!!)

On the 31st, we close up shop at the house, keys turned in, power should be off that afternoon or the next day. We'll be living at home for a few days as we double check all our packed stuff, and make sure things get put away for when I come back down to retrieve them.

So far, the trip is looking paid off. We have $1500 in the bank, $2500 in credit, and that's not counting the next full paycheck coming in. There are still some days we're working out (are we staying in Fresno one day? If not, are we staying Las Vegas that day? Or headig to San Francisco for another day?), and the job situation is still up in the air (no one wants me until I actually GET to Seattle, it seems).

In all, our ducks are almost lined up in a row...

What the hell am I doing....

12:29 pm - Why beat a dead horse with a hammer when you have a perfectly good piano?
I've had an hour of sleep.

I now have a Twitter account.

This can't be good

http://www.twitter.com/dolari - I figure Twitter is better for doing updates from the Sidekick for the roadtrip than multiple, eatable LJ posts. Want I should feed them here?

10:48 am - Things to see on the way to Seattle according to Roadside America
I love Texana and it's sister, Americana. I hate freeways with it's ever presence Waffle Houses, HoJos and Shell Station. I love getting down into the treches of towns and seeing what's there. It's how I learned so much about Central Texas' Things To See That No One Knows About.

Unfortunately, take me out of Central Texas, and my knowledge goes to zip. Thankfully there's http://www.roadsideamerica.com . But, well, on this trip, we're pretty confined to the freeways to Get Us Going Where We Need To Quick. I'd love to see all of these things listed, but it's prolly not gonna happen (when I did the Camino Real trip, I didn't realize stopping every 5 miles for a picture of a rock monument would take so long!). But we can try!

My biggest regret is we're not leaving early Sunday Morning. I know a place in Sterling City where you can get hubcap sized pancakes for $1.

This way to fun! )
