Mom is Back Home

Mar. 23rd, 2008 | 05:18 pm
mood: drained drained

Mom seems to be doing fine, so I suppose I was scared over nothing. I blame the doctor really ... he was making it seem as if it would happen. When she came out of surgery he said that she did fine, but that she probably wouldn't heal correctly. I dislike doctors like that. I know they have to tell you all the things that could happen, but they don't have to make it seem as if it will happen.

Anyway, I'm back home now and everything seems fine.

Scared

Mar. 7th, 2008 | 10:45 am
mood: scared scared

Mom is back in the hospital. She fell again last night and we ended up in the emergency room at 9:30. She was finally admitted into the hospital around 4:30 am with a very severely broken ankle, on the same leg that she continues to break. The doctor says she has to have surgery to fix it, which he is doing somewhere between 4 and 5 this evening.

He says that its a relatively easy surgery, but because of her history with MRSA (staff infection) and her diabetes there is about a 2% chance that her leg won't heal and he would have to amputate. He says that probably won't happen and that would be taking every available precaution, but that he felt that everyone should know everything before going into the surgery. Apparently she needs the surgery or else her ankle won't heal properly.

I'm scared  :( ..

Two Demon Fox Cubs

Jan. 30th, 2008 | 05:25 pm
mood: cheerful cheerful

I was finally able to foster some animals again. I've missed doing it. Anyway, my newest house guests are two adorable (although at times demonic ^^;; ) orphaned fox cubs. A local farmer apparently heard them yapping out in the woods behind his property and when he went to investigate he found them with their dead mother (she had been attacked by another animal, probably defending them). He called us and well now they get to stay with me for a few months. They are aproximately three months old and can't be released at the reserve until they are at least 7 or 8 months old. They've been living with me for about three days now, or rather outside in a pen complete with a specially designed heated den.

Their names are Shann and Vixie. They like to bite >.< and yap. The one with the black paws is Shann and then of course the other one is his sister Vixie. Shann is the leader. He'll be the one to start some sort of trouble, but his faithful sister always joins him in whatever he does.

blah

I feel blah today and I can't sleep. My neighbors are hammering away upstairs at 12:35am >.<  They are very inconsiderate ... although I don't think they are home during the day, although neither am I so I might be wrong. Still is it too much to ask that they not keep me up all night long?

I think I'm coming down with a cold or something. I hate getting sick, it really makes me feel miserable ... especially since I'm the only one in the household that can do things like cooking and cleaning, not to mention shopping, bill paying, and about 100 other things.

Cold Cold Cold

Jan. 21st, 2008 | 06:05 pm
mood: cold cold

We have no snow, but today was super cold and I think it might be sleeting. I really hate cold days. We had to bring heaters into the shelter so the dogs and cats wouldn't freeze over night.

Cinder is feeling better, but she's still rather drugged up because of her medicine.

Nothing of interest happened today, not really anyway except Mom was able to walk up and down the hallway twice with the physical therapist which is a lot better then she has been doing.

I really hate cold. I'm wearing a sweater in my own house because its so cold >.< with the heater on.

Bad Day ...

Jan. 16th, 2008 | 09:31 pm
mood: cranky cranky

Cinder has injured her right back paw. I thought she might have been cut or something so I took her to the vet, but according to the vet she did it herself. Apparently she's been nervous about something and started a bad habit of nervously nipping at her paw until it was red, swollen, and raw enough to leave spots of blood when she walked.

The vet gave her some antibiotic to kill any infection and a little blue pill to calm her down a bit. She hates them and fights me the whole time I'm trying to give them to her. The medicine has also been keeping her so drowsy and lethargic that she has been just laying around half asleep for the past two days.

To top it all off, today it snowed. It wasn't a lot and most of you northerners would laugh at how my town just shuts down because it barely covered the ground ... but it did snow and the stores did shut down ^^;;

There was a million and a half other reasons today was a bad day, but those were the ones that stuck in my head the most ...

I hate days like this ...

Forever and a day....

Wow, its been like forever and a day since I last visited here. Well, I'm back now and I should check/post here more often now. My fanfiction group moved here so if I want to know what's going on there, I have to be here ^^ hehe. Anyway, I've missed posting here ... don't know why I stopped really. What has everyone been up to? I've missed you all ... I miss all those long chats we use to have back when everyone was online and we were in rpgs together all those years ago.

Our newest guest at the animal shelter is a palomino gelding named Minnesota, or Sota for short. His former owner moved into an apartment and sold his land ... couldn't keep him any more. He's 6 years old, a sweetheart really. I'm confidant that we'll be able to find him a good home. He's a honey gold color with a silver-white mane and tail ... really pretty. He comes when you call him, just like a big dog ^_^

Here is a picture:

Mom talked to me today! She recognized me ^_^ ...

This is good, though she's still not able to leave the hospital I don't have to stay with her 24/7 hours a day, though I do have to spend the night ...

Tomorrow I'm going to start working an hour a day, then go and rest at home for an hour, before returning to the hospital!

The doctors think she will recover, though like I said she's not ready to leave the hospital yet and it is possible she could have another stroke if precautions aren't taken ...

The bad news, :( if she doesn't get out of the hospital before next week I'm not going to be able to take my trip to visit Jenn :(

As usual, Love you all!

and Jenn, I'm still not giving up yet ... Mom just needs to be better enough to come home ... hopefully that will happen *hugs* I hope so ...

Mom had another mild stroke last night :( ... I've been at the hospital since 1 am. I just came home for a bit of a break, but I've got to go back. She's having to stay in the hospital now ... and they of course need me to stay nearly 24/7 ... I probably won't be on much for awhile

Love you all...

storms cause too many problems, we ought to find a way to outlaw them ...

I received a total of 2 kittens, 1 puppy, 2 dogs, 4 cats, and a couple of horses today because the storm apparently did something to each of their houses that caused the people to not be able to care for them. >.<

The storm wasn't all that terrible here ... I don't really see why they couldn't care for these animals anymore but I suppose I should be lucky that they were brought to me instead of abandoned somewhere ...

but honestly how much trouble could this little guy be:

well, its a good thing that I decided to put all of the dogs, puppies, and livestock into safer areas last night. When I got to work, nearly half of our outside kennels were about a foot under water :( and the inside kennels were about an inch under water. The stables were under about a foot of water as well.

The area where we keep the cats was completely dry, as was the area where we keep the smaller animals and the birds. Last night I had moved all the dogs and puppies into the area where we keep the cats and luckily we only had one pony and a lamb in the stables. I was able to house them in the room where we keep the small animals and birds. Therefore, all our animals were safe ^^ ... slightly uncomfortable, but safe and dry.

It took me nearly four hours to clean and dry all the stables and the kennels, but now the animals are back where they belong :/

I can only be thankful that I did indeed have the insight to move them last night, otherwise a good many of them would be sick and a couple of our smaller dogs ... including the puppies might possibly be drowned :(

Vixi, that's the little girl fox cub, reached the stage of no return this morning. I was forced to put her down for her own sake ... she was in severe pain and no matter what I did at this point I wasn't going to be able to heal her. She has now gone on to play wherever the dead souls of animals go when they die :( I'm going to miss her ... she was my favorite fox cub, not to mention my favorite fox that I've ever cared for.

Her brothers are still doing great ... they will be moving on to their new home in another week or so.

Here are some pictures ... the first one is Vixi before she became quite so sick. There were so many pictures of her brothers that I decided to just clip the best ones and put them together in one big picture ...

A poem I found and liked:

I, the wolf, with brothers near,
Once roamed the forest without fear,
And I, the hawk, with wings to sky,
Far above the wolf pack's cry,
Once sailed the wind from cloud to tree,
Fearless, secure, and forever free,
But now Man's shadow has come to cast,
Our glorious future to a silent past!

~ J.P. Dowers (WolfHawk)

Bad News:

My little girl cub is not tolerating her treatments very well and she appears to be getting sicker. If she doesn't show some improvement in the next week I'm going to have to put her down, not to do so would be torturing her because she'll be entering into the final stage which isn't curable and is very painful ...

Good News:

Her brothers on the other hand are doing great and they are growing by leaps and bounds ... which is kind of sad and happy at the same time, pretty soon they will be old enough to move on to their next home at the wildlife refuge.

Soon I'll have some pictures of my babies that I've taken ^^

Well, after many tests, I have figured out what is wrong with the little girl ... she is suffering from sarcoptic mange, but not bad enough that its evident. Still, its already causing fever and lack of appetite, so it won't be long. I definitely have to keep her isolated now, I certainly don't want her brothers to come down with it. >.<

I've checked all three of her brothers over carefully and so far they do not seem to have it ... so its just the little girl. Hopefully I can cure her, it is possible ... but if she doesn't take to the treatment then it will kill her.

One of my fox cubs has come down with a fever, the little girl :(

I can't figure out why she has the fever, but she's not eating either. I've separated her from her brothers and I'm hoping that she gets better. She's crying her little foxy heart out right now cause she's lonely ... the boys seem to be handling the separation ok, but then they do have each other.

*sigh* I hope she makes it, she's my favorite of the little ones ... but perhaps its just a random thing and she'll be better tomorrow.
