7/11/04 08:42 am - What a week!
First off, I really want to thank those of you who commented on the pics that I posted in the last update. :D
I spent half the week in rather significant pain - I don't know if any of you got the bug that was going around... I call it the 'headache bug'... I had a pretty severe headache Monday night all the way through until Thursday morning. I'd heard from people afterwards that, 'hmm... odd, I had that last week', or somesuch. It was very strange indeed.
Work was busy, as per norm, but I got a nice chunk of work done this week.. yay!
Last night Darren and I went to a wedding reception for a friend of mine. Truthfully, I'd spent most of the day dreading it, to some degree... not that I would have skipped out, as the woman getting married will be one of my bridesmaids when I walk down the aisle, but some of our mutual friends aren't so... friendly anymore.
It went -very- well. I had a couple former friends from my years of frequenting the Broken Cue in the west end who I'd recently tried to contact without much success. When my ex-boyfriend Spence and I had broken up, I was a mess, as some of you are aware... and while I really didn't intend to, I pushed away most of the people I was close to at the time, and managed to alienate one of my absolute best friends. It was selfish of me, but at the time, while everything in her life was going absolutely wonderful(planning her wedding, getting an incredible job in Toronto, etc), mine hit bottom. I lost Spence, I lost my job, and I was in a very bad place. I was thrilled for her, but crushed inside. When she came to Ottawa to meet with her bridesmaids and plan for the wedding, I opted to remain at home. As a result, we spent about one hour together before she had to head back to Toronto.
Words were exchanged on both our parts, and several emails were exchanged, and we never spoke again. About two months ago, I made contact... and got hung up on, more or less. I'd sent her an email after the brief conversation, received one back, sent another, and never heard back. I'd simply told her I'd considered her one of my best friends for a long time, and even if we never spoke again after that conversation, I just wanted to know things were going well for her. She decided, I'd assumed at the time, that speaking again wasn't something she wanted to do.
But I digress. She was at the wedding, and her and her husband were the first people we talked to when we arrived. I figured it was just a polite thing to do at the wedding, that she didn't want to be rude, but I did plan to track her down before the end of the night to talk to her.
Before I could, she found me. She apologized for the phonecall, gave me her number again, and we spoke for a good half hour outside.
I saw many other people who I hadn't seen in years, as well as some good friends, and overall it was truly a fun time. I wish we'd been able to stay longer, but Darren's ankle was hurting pretty badly by the time we did leave, and my poor, inexperienced feet couldn't stand the absolute pain my new heels were causing. :P
Anyways, I think that's about it for my week.
