Irishkitten's Journal

a brief escape from reality

11/20/04 02:25 am

Dear self,

While playing DDR, you land wrong and hear two distinct popping sounds in your knee, do not try to 'walk it off', and get back on the game. This will only result in additional pain when you hear a third 'pop', and even more so when you continue from there until it happens one last time.

Love,
Me.

(seven years ago I screwed up the same knee when getting off a chairlift at a ski resort, and the pain is much like it is now.... which means I'll be lucky to be walking on it by Monday. *sob*)

10/28/04 06:06 pm - Help!!

I'm horribly addicted to Dance Dance Revolution.

7/21/04 08:13 am - Anyone know a lawyer?

It's been suggested that I take the following story to one, or at the very least, send it to our Premier, the CMA, and all the newspapers in Ottawa.

I mentioned this in [info]vorpal's journal earlier this morning - here is the actual explanation:

This is a long one, but please read, for your own safety. )

7/11/04 08:42 am - What a week!

First off, I really want to thank those of you who commented on the pics that I posted in the last update. :D

I spent half the week in rather significant pain - I don't know if any of you got the bug that was going around... I call it the 'headache bug'... I had a pretty severe headache Monday night all the way through until Thursday morning. I'd heard from people afterwards that, 'hmm... odd, I had that last week', or somesuch. It was very strange indeed.

Work was busy, as per norm, but I got a nice chunk of work done this week.. yay!

Last night Darren and I went to a wedding reception for a friend of mine. Truthfully, I'd spent most of the day dreading it, to some degree... not that I would have skipped out, as the woman getting married will be one of my bridesmaids when I walk down the aisle, but some of our mutual friends aren't so... friendly anymore.

It went -very- well. I had a couple former friends from my years of frequenting the Broken Cue in the west end who I'd recently tried to contact without much success. When my ex-boyfriend Spence and I had broken up, I was a mess, as some of you are aware... and while I really didn't intend to, I pushed away most of the people I was close to at the time, and managed to alienate one of my absolute best friends. It was selfish of me, but at the time, while everything in her life was going absolutely wonderful(planning her wedding, getting an incredible job in Toronto, etc), mine hit bottom. I lost Spence, I lost my job, and I was in a very bad place. I was thrilled for her, but crushed inside. When she came to Ottawa to meet with her bridesmaids and plan for the wedding, I opted to remain at home. As a result, we spent about one hour together before she had to head back to Toronto.

Words were exchanged on both our parts, and several emails were exchanged, and we never spoke again. About two months ago, I made contact... and got hung up on, more or less. I'd sent her an email after the brief conversation, received one back, sent another, and never heard back. I'd simply told her I'd considered her one of my best friends for a long time, and even if we never spoke again after that conversation, I just wanted to know things were going well for her. She decided, I'd assumed at the time, that speaking again wasn't something she wanted to do.

But I digress. She was at the wedding, and her and her husband were the first people we talked to when we arrived. I figured it was just a polite thing to do at the wedding, that she didn't want to be rude, but I did plan to track her down before the end of the night to talk to her.

Before I could, she found me. She apologized for the phonecall, gave me her number again, and we spoke for a good half hour outside.

I saw many other people who I hadn't seen in years, as well as some good friends, and overall it was truly a fun time. I wish we'd been able to stay longer, but Darren's ankle was hurting pretty badly by the time we did leave, and my poor, inexperienced feet couldn't stand the absolute pain my new heels were causing. :P

Anyways, I think that's about it for my week.

7/1/04 12:16 pm - Happy Canada Day!!!

...to all of you Canadians out there.

I just bought another year subscription. Plus that two month extension they are talking about... so you're all stuck with me until September 2005, at least!

I'm heading off to a BBQ in about a half hour, and have yet to hop in the shower and get ready to go. So I think I will do that now.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

(on a side note, gmail seems to be working, but some mail seems to get delayed(I sent an email from work and didn't get it until about 6 hours later). I now know that all mail that has been sent to me is actually working... my concern is now those who I sent my change of email info to... I think some ended up in junk mail folders, etc... ala hotmail and yahoo) Oh well... I'm sure they will work out all the little bugs soon enough. 1000 megs is worth the initial hassle!

Ciao!

6/30/04 08:12 pm - Hmmm......

Is anyone who has a gmail account having trouble receiving messages, or successfully sending messages? I'm beginning to wonder if some of my emails aren't getting through... this concerns me muchly.

6/4/04 11:59 pm - Wheeeeeeee

Time to format this beast again.

5/23/04 05:59 pm - Fire? Fiiiiiiire! :>

5/21/04 08:51 pm - How many doctors does it take to diagnose a problem?

In the last three days, I have been to see a doctor each day. Call me paranoid, but I really wasn't happy with the prognosis' I received.

The first day I went, I was told that it was likely a minor strain, and to take 2 advil 3x a day for 5 days.

Well, the next morning(Thursday), my wrist was swollen, and I had a very tender bump on my wrist. After barely making it through work, I went back to the clinic I had gone to the day before, and saw another doctor, who told me it was the ganglion thing.

Today truly wasn't much better. Tylenol 3, even with Codeine, doesn't do very much for me. I took one at 2:00pm, and by 4:00pm I was almost in tears again.

I decided to go back one last time, before the weekend, in fear that it wouldn't get any better and I would be in agony until Tuesday.

This time I went to a different chain of clinics, and when I removed the brace, the doctor looked it over, told me there was no way it was a ganglion, but in fact, tendonitis.

You see, I guess ganglions protrude from the wrist like... hmm, a marble or something. I just have a bruised area across my hand, and down my wrist. I was given a topical anti-inflammatory, and instructed to continue taking the tylenol, and the other anti-inflammatory.

It still hurts like hell, but I'm a little more confident with the diagnosis this time... and I'm mad as hell at the clinic I visited before today.

5/20/04 08:54 pm - Ganglions

Holy mother of God, I've discovered a whole new level of pain.

I went through the last two days thinking at first, that I had sprained my wrist, and then perhaps that I had fractured one of the bones in my hand.

Upon my second trip to the local clinic, I was diagnosed with a ganglion.

Description from WebMD: Ganglions are cysts filled with clear, jellylike fluid. They develop from a tendon sheath or the lining of a joint. Ganglions are the most common noncancerous soft-tissue bumps on the hands and wrists, but they can also develop on feet, ankles, knees or shoulders. They may be as small as a seed or larger than a cherry.

This thing has been pressing on practically every nerve in my wrist, causing significant lack of motion, and extreme pain. I spoke briefly to a friend of mine who HAS heard of this before, and I've been told it is more painful than a break. I don't doubt it, now.

The most terrifying thing about this is reading that without surgical treatment, there is a 90% chance of it returning. I think I would have rather broken my wrist. :P

Other than that, nothing new to report. This post has taken nearly an hour, so I may be scarce for a few days. I've got a wrist brace, a nice supply of anti-inflammatories, and Tylenol 3 with codeine, so it shouldn't be too hard to handle now.

Take care, all.

5/18/04 06:58 pm - A little story.

Once upon a time, my optical mouse died. I had to replace it with a shitty mouse for the time being, but I decided to have a little fun before I threw the old mouse out.

You see, many kittens live in my apartment, and one in particular, Cleo, seemed especially interested in this mouse.

However, when my roommate decided to dangle it over her head, the reaction was not what we expected.

We tried to convince her that it was indeed the mouse she had longed for, for many a year... and it seemed like we were actually making progress.

Then... the unthinkable happened )
THE END.

4/28/04 11:37 am - a great big F--- YOU to Subway

I'll say this, I'm NEVER again paying $7.70 for a SALAD, unless I'm in a swanky restaurant. Yay for your new ingredients, your $3.00 cherry tomatoes, apparently, because that's all that changed. Oh, and the pretty little round container it now comes in.

Screw that. The only reason I didn't throw it back at you was because there were other people in line.

4/13/04 05:57 pm - Kitty cuteness

While I'm here, I'm thinking I'll torment y'all with silly kitty pics!

You know you wanna! )

3/15/04 11:50 am - 'Passion' outtakes

Stolen from [info]jabber who stole it from lruvalcaba who got it Lord only knows where...

No film set exists without its share of gags and accidents, even the filming of Mel Gibson's crucifixion epic. Interloper Paul Ford got a transcript of scenes that may never make it onto the DVD edition.

On another note, I'll actually try to post something personal-like later tonight. :P

Type your first name and google for the image. Post the first hit.

Well, I DID always want a motorcycle.... )

2/28/04 06:32 am - Something I really like about the new apartment:

Real balcony doors!

I liked the door we had in the old place, but the kitties couldn't get a good look outside. There was a pigeon on the balcony.... they were all chattering away... it was great!!
