    Moving and New Journal
Hey all, Dan here, having not updated in forever and a half, I've decided to start a new journal to chronicle my adventures in Switzerland and beyond.  That's right, I'm moving to Switzerland for a year or two to work on the biggest particle accelerator ever at CERN.  The new journal is [info]physicstattoo.  Enjoy it.  I'll probably repost this entry a couple times in the next week for people who miss it.  Cheers.

    What, me an alcoholic?
    Bacardi 151
Congratulations! You're 132 proof, with specific scores in beer (80) , wine (83), and liquor (113).

All right. No more messing around. Your knowledge of alcohol is so high
that you have drinking and getting plastered down to a science. Sure,
you could get wasted drinking beer, but who needs all those trips to
the bathroom? You head straight for the bar and pick up that which is
    most efficient.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
You scored higher than 57% on proof
You scored higher than 90% on beer index
You scored higher than 93% on wine index
You scored higher than 98% on liquor index

    Rant and Rave
"Yet, when told of the exact text of the First Amendment, more than one in three high school students said it goes "too far" in the rights it guarantees. Only half of the students said newspapers should be allowed to publish freely without government approval of stories."

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/EDUCATION/01/31/students.amendment.ap/

One third of American high school students just managed to make their way onto my once exclusive list of people who ought to be shipped off to Guantanamo Bay, or maybe a Chinese prison for extremist political dissidents, or perhaps a Siberian gulag. I hate the way America currently seems to think it can democratize the world by force; the arrogance and short-sightedness of our current administration appalls me. But I'm proud to be an American because being an American means I have the right to speak out against the government when I feel they're making mistakes, and that I can read the newspaper knowing that the news I'm reading has not been filtered through some paranoid bureaucracy. I fear that in the current political atmosphere, some people think that such freedoms have to be given up for security. To them I say fuck you, you're not an American, you're a frightened and pathetic shell of a human being who has no idea of the concepts on which the American government is based and you are not worthy to eat the dirt from the ground our founding fathers stood upon. The American government was created to serve the will and protect the freedom of the people, not to monitor, censor, and control them. And even though it's currently doing a terrible job of it, if you don't appreciate the freedoms the government was founded to protect, I will be happy to personally take those freedoms away from you, lock you in a cell, and throw away the key.

I saw a distrubing, but not unexpected trend in the exit polls - there seems to be a clear correspondence between how little higher education one has received and how likely one is to vote for Bush. Now to all you educated Republicans, fuck you, you're wrong, we can argue this some other time. But putting forth a question to everyone, is it wrong to think that in order to vote, one should have to pass some kind of aptitude test proving that they have a basic understanding of how the government works and what each candidate stands for? I don't want stupid or uneducated people deciding who runs my country! The more politically correct among you may say this is wrong, but in your hearts, you all know that it's a bad idea to have uneducated and / or unintelligent individuals making important decisions that affect the lives of everyone. Say what you will about equal rights for everyone, but if you were placed in charge of an important project, and there were people in the project group who really didn't have the necessary background knowledge to contribute to the progress of the project, you wouldn't want them making important decisions for the group either.

So, clubbing in the Hamptons is very expensive. Who would have guessed? On another note, triple vodka and red bull is a great clubbing drink, althought it probably takes a year off your life.

The cost of being a thrifty metrosexual
When did the price of a nicely fitting pair of non-designer jeans jump from $30 to $60? And also, why is it impossible to find a fitted black hoodie in a small or a medium? Do only fat people wear fitted black hoodies? And considering I gained weight this year, why are half my shorts suddenly too big? Also, when did Old Navy start selling clothes that I actually like and that aren't trendy in a creepy multicolored preppie sort of way? I'm going to assume that all this, and probably much more in the world of clothes, has happened since I left for college almost three years ago and started shopping for clothes exclusively at the bargain basement of the Cambridge Urban Outfitters and on eBay, and occasionally at the Garment District.

interesting information and you're a great
friend to the people you care about. You may
have sides to you that no one understands. But
while you understand more than most people,
you're only half-there most of the time.

    Quark
Quark -- You are subtle and mysterious and people
know very little about you. You like hanging
out with small groups of friends (usually 3)
who you are very close to. You are usually
friends with other quarks like yourself.
