Hiho,
So as many of you know, I'm collecting those old Consumers Distributing catalogues. No real idea why, I just thing they're a fascinating thing to look back on now. And so far, it's been one of my cheaper hobbies, as they don't seem to be "collectible" yet. Normally, maybe every other month or so, one will pop up on ebay. I'm usually the only bidder, maybe one of two, and I can usually get them for $10 or less. I think the most I've paid for one may be about $21, because a bidding war broke out.
Last week, the 1977/78 catalogue popped up on ebay. It's not one that I have, so I decided to bid. There was already one other bidder, so I put in a bid of $30 expecting to maybe get it for $15-20ish again.
Yesterday I got an outbid notice. In fact it was already at $40. Too rich for my blood, so I decided not to counterbid.
This morning, I checked to see how much it ended up going for...
$72.51!!!!
OMG are you kidding me? Over $70 for a Consumers catalogue??? That's... insane!
Crap, I hope other people haven't decided to start collecting these at any price. I really didn't want this to become an expensive collection. *sigh*
CU,
Andrew

Hiho,
Top Choice: Janna. She's been my fave from the start, and every performance has reinforced my opinion - she's the only one who I find acts as well as she sings. Every performance has been interesting to watch. If she wins, I'd pay to see her play Maria.
Second Choice: Jayme. I didn't like her at first but she has won me over through the weeks. Very versatile, talented singer, reasonable actress... I might pay to see her.
Third Choice: Marisa. Reasonable singer, but imo her acting needs some polishing. I wouldn't pay to see her though.
Dead last by a mile: Elicia. I really, really don't see what the panel sees in this girl. Can she sing? Meh. She's ok, but not great. But what really bugs me is that she has always seemed annoyingly stiff and boring when she sings - no acting, no emotion, nothing that pulls me in and makes me want to see more of her at all. You would have to pay me to go see her.

Andrew

Hiho,
A coworker of mine is trying to live his dream. In fact, he's trying to move past a personal crisis that hit his life last year. The details of that aren't important (though a couple of you have heard the story), but the important thing is that he's now trying to rebuild himself, and part of that is that he wanted to record a song. He had an idea for a funny/silly song about Barack Obama. He told me about this, and after consulting the Expert of all things Musical (aka
rockgoddes), I got him in touch with a local music producer. After a couple of days, his song was recorded! Now I have to admit, it's not my kind of music, really - but it is indeed funny/silly, and it's insidiously catchy. Seriously, even if you're not into this kind of music, listen to it once or twice and you risk having part of it in your head forever... Which makes me think that it could really catch on, if enough people hear it.
Anyway, once the song was recorded, he asked me to help him make a video for the song, so that he could youtube it. We shot some footage around Scarborough and up in Unionville and edited it this weekend. Kind of a rough job, actually, certainly not my best editing - but he loves it, and it does capture the spirit of what he was going for...
So now he's trying to get as many people see this as possible, so I'm asking: Please give this a view. And if it makes you smile, laugh, tap your toes, or anything else the least bit positive, please give him a good rating and maybe a positive comment. And if you think others would enjoy, feel free to spread the word.
Here it is: Manish Shah in "I Wanna Be Obama". You may notice that I have a cameo in there. And so does the Andrewmobile! :)

Hiho,
1. Where were you THREE hours ago?
In the AndrewMobile, on the 401. Probably blasting the Smashing Pumpkins louder than I should have been.
2. What was the last thing to make you mad?
"Mad"? Hmmm... No idea. I get frustrated now and then, but "mad" is much more of a rarity. I'll pass on that one, cuz I really don't know...
3. Are you wearing SOCKS right now?
Sadly, yes.
4. When was the last time you went out of STATE?
It was a good party.
5. Have you been to the M0VIES in the last 5 days?
Why does this survey PUT random words in uppercase? Anyhow, the ANSWER is no.

Go to http://quotationspage.com/random.ph p3 and keep reading until you find five quotations that speak your truth.
It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not to deserve them. - Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
After an access cover has been secured by 16 hold-down screws, it will be discovered that the gasket has been omitted. - De la Lastra's Corollary
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)
Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. - Thomas Merton (1915 - 1968), 'No Man Is an Island'
Anyone can do any amount of work provided it isn't the work he's supposed to be doing at that moment. - Robert Benchley (1889 - 1945)
Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them. - Dr. Seuss a.k.a. Theodore Giesel
(Yeah, yeah, I know, that's six... :))

Hiho,
Over on DWIN's Doctor Who Blog, Rod is reporting that the CBC will start airing the current season of Doctor Who on September 19th.
SEPTEMBER???
I'm probably the last person in Canada waiting for the CBC airings. But September??? Heck, even I may cave and find foreign sources for the episodes...

This is an oldie, but I saw it on my fbook feed again yesterday. My initial reaction is always "Cool! Peanuts meet Watchmen, the ultimate Kim & Andrew mashup!" :) But then I get to thinking...
So, there are some parts of this that are really, really wrong when you think about it. ( If you know your Peanuts and your Watchmen anyhow. )
If only I could draw. :)
Now, how sad is it that I just thought all of that out, anyhow. :)

At what point do you cross the line from "I have a few somethings" to "I have a collection?"
Cuz the Evil Monkeys (the character from Family Guy) in the house are multiplying. I think it might be an official collection now. Bobblehead monkey, large plastic monkey, the small plastic monkey that sits on the HugeAss TV, evil monkey t-shirts... and there's probably more that I'm not remembering.
Yep... I think I may have another collection...

Hiho,
The producers of the Watchmen movie are having a cool contest. Basically they're asking fans to make their own fake TV commercials for Veidt Enterprises, a fake company that is somewhat important to the Watchmen storyline. Prizes for the top submissions, including most impressively the inclusion of your ad in the Watchmen Movie.
When I read this, I came up with about 10 different ideas within seconds. I was all set to go grab my copies of Watchmen to refresh my memory on the look/feel of the Veidt ads in the comics. But then I read the damned official rules...
"open to persons who as of April 22, 2008 are legal residents of one of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia"
ARGH!!!!
Damn you, Warner Brothers! Us Canadian Watchmen lovers want to play too!!!
