bc or bust... Jul. 18th, 2005 @ 08:01 pm
this post is dedicated to my animated partner in crime, jonny-o.

this kid was pretty cool, i snapped his pic once i'd re-composed myself from laughing at his sign. apparently people take him up on it all the time and he's gonna have enough cash to go to BC in september. come to think of it, he may make more than i do.

buster rocks... Jul. 3rd, 2005 @ 08:15 pm
i got bored while bbq'ing on friday so i shot really random stuff around my yard. little did i know it would drain crucial battery life i'd need later that night. i did get this alright shot of a daisy though.

paul and i are good photographers, and great friends...but we can still manage to have the the worst photo experience of all time. dead batteries, a hell of a lot of walking and a flying leap off a fence that has officially been diagnosed as a fractured fibula.

oh yeah, and we have no idea how to photograph fireworks.

the funny thing is; still had a good time and i'd do it all over again.

here's a couple of shots from last week's sloan show. i have so much on the hard drive right now i could be posting every couple of minutes...just trying to wade through it all.
chris and andy respectively.

» the long lost ni...
so travellin' pavel points out to me today that it's been 21 days since i updated. is it really that long? now, i could get into how i've been crazy busy lately and how i have i've been shooting assignments leaving no time to shoot for myself, but we all know they're just excuses. i should still make time to post.
SO..here's one measily shot from friday's tattoo convention. i love this pic, it looks like he's inking a corpse. for the record, this guys piece turned out amazing.

» but he remember every detail of it...
tom thompson was a painter and a member of the group of seven here in canada. one summer while fishing he mysteriously disapeared, but continued his art right up until his untimely death. by the time he'd reached his early 90's he said that each tree reminded him of a beautiful woman. northern canada; the best shaped trees in the world.

» victoria day bottle rocket...
i love this shot. sitting at my desk, playing with my camera.

» duck, duck, swan...
these swans and i are banding together, in an effort to bring those cocky canadian geese down a peg.

» it's called constructive critism...
i forgot to mention, that while i was out shooting the other day, some dude yelled "loser!" out of his car window. some guy i don't know, leaning out of a car window, yelling "loser" at like 80 km an hour...there's a pain i won't soon forget.

» sleep away the day if you want to...
the lone thing on my mind as i sat among the over grown grass, was an article i read in in outdoor photography magazine. the article went on...and on...of "the magic hour" during the day when the sun is low in the sky. "a photographers dream" they said. sure it makes for nice colours and all, but it was playing hell with my lens tonight. magic hour my foot.

» venkman burn in hell...
here's the deal; when i wrote yesterday's headline i actually stopped and wondered why i chose it. it just kinda came to me. i left it, because nothing else immediately came to me. well today, to get the first shot posted here i was bitten by a goose. coincidence or a moment of photographic clairvoyance?

» ruffeling feathers everywhere...
while out shooting this afternoon i became obessed with this leaf. i don't know why. i don't know if it's the fact it's a fall leaf sitting around during spring, or whether it seemed almost nestled in the water as if frozen under ice. at any rate, staring at it and pointing a camera at it got me my share of weird looks...but what else is new?

» the holy roads and the stories they told....
managed to actually get out and do some shots today. that's all i have to say about that.

» four days of the week, she thinks i'm the enemy...
i apologize for the lack of update the past seven days. an abundance of work, and the rain on my days off is not the best equation for photography. i hope to get a bunch done this week.
also i'd like to mention that someone said to me yesterday that "looking at my photography makes her want to go out and take pictures", which is the ultimate compliment; thank you.

and for those who have said to me, and those who have remained quiet, that livejournal is being a 'tard to non-members to comment, i'm sorry. keep dropping by though.
» little bitches and bastards...
so i was supposed to be shooting the tea party right now, BUT their manager is an ass hat. see i was there for a music rag, which one doesn't matter...so i walk up to the show and my gear gets nabbed at the door by the fun police. so i go find the road manager and ask him politely what the problem was. aparently he had made the personal decision that there were to be no cameras there tonight because the flash takes away from the lighting display. did i mention HE was doing the lights? so i mention to this walking anus that "i never use flash at a show as a courtesy to the performers" and that i only needed two songs. i showed him the email i had confirming my required participation, but that wasn't enough to satisfy his ego. "nobody told me about it"
"that's because you're just the road manager"
yeah, he didn't seem to like that. also i may have inquired as to whether or not he was retarded. it then became increasingly evident that i wasn't going to be shooting this show...so why stay for a band i don't exactly like? plus i get a serious case of the thatwouldhavebeenagoodshot's, which is enraging. so i booked..here's a couple more shots from today's nature adventure.

» holy macro...
as a true sign of the apocolypse, there was nice weather on a day i had off. so i grabbed my gear and headed out to do some thrilling, and oh so manly, nature photography. oh the excitement. as per usual, i'll post more later.

just when i thought the simpsons couldn't any worse, they cross it with american idol. touche matt greoning. you suck. i officially hate the simpsons.
