| In Moncton... |
[Sep. 24th, 2008|09:52 am] |
So ive been in Moncton for a few days for work..nice to travel again...
House has been going awsome...I can pretty much say we're done..for now..and I think we did an awsome job with it, especially considering neither of us were exactly blessed with the decoating talent....itll be nice to sleep in on weekends again...Well once after the housewarming im sure, which should be super fun. Had both the familes over on Sunday which was a HUGE step, but it went off super well.
School is good...my last class so thatll be a nice accomplishment...hang up that piece of paper on the wall...

[Aug. 31st, 2008|02:30 am] |
almost a full week into home ownership, its been amazing....things came together alot quicker than either of us would have thought. Quite a few people have come down to check out the place and/or give a bit of a hand moving stuff or building stuff, which has been greatly appreciated.
We're pretty much settled in, the painting is done and the majority of the furniture is either here or purchased...a few final touches then i think we'll be done. ...
Looking forward to being able to come home and just relax, rather than run errands and go go go...although spending money guilt free isnt so bad :) |

[Aug. 13th, 2008|01:06 pm] |
House closing date is coming up, the date has been circled on the calendar for some time now so we're awfully excited. Buying furntiture and stuff has made it become more of a reality...This week is buying the paint supplies then we're ready to get to work!
Speaking of work...ugh, crazy and stressfull right now. It's pretty tough to stay motivated when everyone around you is being told that "this is the week"...
The good news is the road trip is on Sunday..cant come soon enough...amusement parks, football, witches makes for a great time. |

So in the last few weeks Matt and I decided to move ahead with the house purchasing decision. Its been both an incredibly exciting and stressful time at the same time. We came so close to getting one and it slipped away at the last second, but we keep looking. Im looking forward to having just OUR place again. By now we've seen almost 20 houses...its neat to see the different perspectives people have when trying to sell their homes...like dude, seriously, clean your f**** house if you want people to drop money on it. The good thing throughout this experiance is that we now have a much better idea of exactly what we want. I'd say my top 3 requirements are 1) Ensuite Bathroom 2) Fully/Partial finished basement and 3) Open concept main floor (those kitchen islands and walk in pantry's are awsome!
Weekend getaway to Montreal was much needed and greatly appreciated :) |

| Cedar Point again... |
[Jun. 3rd, 2008|09:38 am] |
|
So another visit to Cedar Point...we seemed to be blessed by ideal weather the last few years...*crosses fingers*. The trip was good...the park was relatively dead so we did everything we wanted to in the 1.5 days there...I think i also found my new favorite Motel to stay at next time we go...Although it looked sketchy...it totally had everything we needed.
Although more expensive on Gas, Vans are ideal for the long road trips...it was super comfy and the 11 hours just flew right by...
Speaking of gas, i was browsing the CBC website and came accross this:
http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/cars/gascosts/index.html
What i wouldnt do for 64.9cents/liter in gas!!!!!!! |

So the vacation is now over and im back to work...that part sucks...but overall the vacation was awsome. It was a good mix of doing stuff and keeping busy, but very relaxing as there were nights we just stayed in and watched movies/lazed around. Hong Kong was an amazing experiance, but im glad to be home.
Coming home, we just recovered on Friday night and Saturday was supposed to be a quiet movie night which turned into an awsome kegger party. I was totally caught off guard and had no idea of it happening. It was great to see so many people made it out. And any night that consists of minou-cake, a finished keg of beer, an eastside/westside rivalry, hot tub and raiding a hat collection is bound to be good. The day after suprise dinner was amazing (Although the food seems to have made everyone ill). The bday loot was awsome...Our Wii collection continues to grow, i cant even keep up! Mario Kart is just as good as i was hoping (although Matt and Aaron are already quickly becoming pros)
Back to work today, wasnt looking forward to it, but it wasnt terrible. Having Matt work accross the street is really nice. Hopefully it works out that we can go for lunch most days and commute in/back together.

So it's been over a week since we've left Ottawa and the vacation is going super well... matthoffypretty much detailed the trip, thus far.
Disneyland was a bit of a dissapointment, but still a good experiance...it actually helped me more get interested in the Florida one...Still haven't run out of things to do out here, still have 4 full days and plenty of stuff to do to keep us busy!
Then coming home for the long weekend...so plenty of time to relax and enjoy the birthday...well as much as I can with the big dirty thirty! lol

| Random facts about Hong Kong |
[May. 6th, 2008|12:33 pm] |
A few things ive learned in my few days here in Hong Kong that i would have never known before...
-There's a TON of 7-11's here...like more than you would see along the highway or anything, i love it! -The place is like India when it comes to being crowded, but VERY clean and super well maintained. Cleansiness and health have taken center stage since the SARS outbreak a few years ago. -Things arent as cheap as i would have expected, still slightly cheaper than home prices mind you, but for some reason I had this place pegged as super cheap. -Being on the exact opposite side of the world makes it easy to keep track of time back home (exactly 12 hours behind) |

| In HK! |
[May. 4th, 2008|01:17 am] |
So the move went as well as I think it could...there's still tons of boxes to go through and stuff...but didnt really have much time as we left for Hong Kong like 24 hours later... Thanks again to everyone who helped out!
I wont go into too much detail about the trip as matthoffy pretty much described it all. But so far so good, the weather has been great and we extended our list of things to do:
- the peak - big buddha - ladies' market - disneyland - symphony of lights - ocean world - kowloon walled city park - tai o fishing village - cheung chau island or lamma island - beaches
The time change thing has been weird, being exactly 12 hours ahead. Ive been getting TONS of sleep, not sure if its jet lag or just catching up on sleep. Sunday's are crazy busy since the maids, nannies and everyone has the day off so we'll just hang out at the mall and catch a movie and start doing real touristy things tommorow.

| Moving on... |
[Apr. 11th, 2008|12:17 am] |
Im already looking forward to everything May will bring...new place to live in (albeit temproary), new place ive never visited before (Hong Kong) and of course a brief return to Cedar Point.
Had my last class for the semester tonight, im fairly relieved as i found this semester pretty tough to get into. Just one more class and im done done done, oh well i still have an exam and a final paper to write, but thats not worth mentioning.
Packing is progressing well, have a few boxes of non-necessities packed up and our official move out date is April 29. Looking to have one last "Fuc* Lees" party before we go, just so we can say we left the place with a bang.
I worked from home today and it was more of a "catch up" day on other stuff as its been a bit busy on that end...but the last minute trip to Tremblant last weekend was sooo worth it.
Saw 21 Tuesday night...i liked it..i wonder how many people rushed off to the Casino thinking they could pull off the same! lol
And the cloud of drama continues to linger..*sigh* |

| Hong Kong! |
[Mar. 19th, 2008|09:18 pm] |
|
-So since the last post, Matt and I decided to do something a little bit different for the usual May trip..dont get me wrong i LOVE Cedar Point and still plan on going, just in a smaller capacity. But we had some friends move to Hong Kong last fall and they've invited us up so we're going to take them up on their offer. Although 20+ hours in a plane wont be fun, touring the other side of the world on a non-business trip will be. Hong Kong Disneyland here i come!
-School is winding down..just 3 weeks and 2 exams and then im done..well till September, but then its only one class left..
-Work's all right, long weekend!!!!!
-The cheesy horror fest continues, i got Halloween 2/3 & 5 from Ebay last week...that and 2am breakfast just go so well together.
-My 2006 tax return finally got cleaned up..what a mess that was...
-Started to think about the move a bit more...just less than 5 weeks left at Lees! |

Anyways this trip cant come soon enough, im getting my ass handed to me at work most days and 3 courses at once is overkill. I took a day off today so i can just relax and slow down for a change...
I got to go on the canal for the first time in two years the other night, hooray to being a back up plan! :P

| Snow |
[Nov. 21st, 2007|10:46 pm] |
So right now im probably one of the few people excited about the snow thing..im sure the moment itll pass, but its just the fact i totally missed out on Witner last year thanks to India, i had a huge smile on my face this morning when going to work through all the snow on the ground...im sure that love of snow will pass..very soon :)
Work;s been good, the new job in Marketing is a huge challenge and much more work than what i was used to in training, but I love it,...I still have huge flexibility and a boss in another city so that makes it easier on me...
Other than that im busting my balls to get my Athabasca course done by Xmas...it started in September but i was still bitter over the Nova Scotia thing I kept delaying it and then Halloween came around and i realized my Ottawa U courses start in January and i dont want any carryover... |

| News... |
[Oct. 4th, 2007|12:51 pm] |
Cedar Point part two was last weekend..was totally suprised, it went off much better than we could have hoped..We thought with a group of 8 would be difficult to manage for cars, rides, etc..but it turned out to be great. The park was a bit busier than we had hoped but we still managed to ride everything multiple times (Go Maverick!!!) Plus staying that close to Cedar Point was amazing... We ended up having so much fun that there's an "After-party" scheduled next Saturday to make up for it.
The only other downfall was the annoying McDonalds, but whatever, minor detail... but i finally got my Funnel cake so that made up for it :P At least we totally got maximum use from our Cedar Point. Matt uploaded all the pics to Facebook, no real point in duplicating them on photobucket i suppose...
Only a few more days in Sydney...but soon enough ill be home, i start my new job in Marketing on Oct 15..im totally thrilled about it. After 7 years of training, i think its time to move on... |

| Weekend in Nova Scotia!!! |
[Sep. 24th, 2007|07:40 pm] |
Holy Geez what an awsome weekend here in Nova Scotia,....never figured there was THAT much to do out here, but thanks to my friends Carl and Jen who are from here, they gave us some advice and it worked out well:
-Matt arrived Friday night and after just hanging around the room..we got up super early Saturday morning and took a drive towards the Cabot trail..along the way we stopped at various lookout points and things the trail had to offer. We stopped in Pleasent Bay to do a whale watching tour (Where we saw plenty of whales, schools of fish, seals and an eagle) Drove the rest of the trail and ended up a the Alexander Graham Bell museam, which was a bit of dissapointment, yet still facinating on how much he actually did other than the telephone. We finished Sat night by going to the Sydney Casino..which was very funny, especially when you compare it to whats in Montreal/Hull. We did get "double bet coupons" from the hotel so we tried our hand at Blackjack...it wasnt bad, but i can see how people can lose/win money FAST.
-Sunday got a car then drove to Louisberg to see the old French Fortress...it was well done, just like at Upper Canada Village.. after that drove to Glace Bay to see the miners museam which was actually great...cause the majority of the mine tour was only 5"6, so it was a bit of a challenge for Matt :P After the movie we went to see Resident Evil 3..which was..meh, not bad i guess...but compared to the first two it sucked..
Today went back to work which sucked...but after work we took a walk around the harbour, saw the Giant fiddle, then after dinner we went "candlestick bowling" its like a combination of 10 and 5 pin bowling with 10 tall-thin pins with small balls..the difference is that unlike the other two when your lane has pins left over it, you keep bowling, which you can use as a strategy..interesting stuff....
My time in Sydney will be ending a bit earlier if all goes well...this being said, Matt and I are debating what to do for Thanksgiving weekend..on one hand we should be home with family doing family stuff, but if it is my last weekend here...might want to take advantage of it.... |
