The past weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Whartscape festival.
And it was pretty damn awesome.
Saw bands that i've been wanting to see or that I enjoy seeing.
The highlights.. oo, there were many.
On saturday.. The Oxes rocked the shit out of my life, soul, and body. It was the first time I actually got to see the Oxes and I'm happy that I did, they played all their best material it was fantastic. FUCKING OXES. Kyle: You should have been there doood!!
O shit, saturday night.. human host, video hippos, and Celebration(!!!).. The singer of celebration, she's short, sweet and tiny--with a booming voice to boot. I've been wanting to see them since I heard their second release 'The Modern Tribe' --the album makes me want to read Dune all the time. Human Host was human host: goofy and good. I liked seeing the Video Hippos so much, it was almost dreamy watching them. But the real highlight goes to Celebration: I fucking love organs that are played with that middle eastern-flare. O and female vocalists who don't fuck around with singing (their previous-previous incarnation, Jaks was even more wild and darker and insaner than Celebration--a process of evolving)
Sunday was good, except when i couldn't get into the Annex for the last show.. but it got busted when the Girl Talk-Dan Deacon supergroup/whatever/shit/thing tried to play.
Lets.. Sunday, I was happy I got to see Ponytail.. I've only seen them once and this makes it twice.. I actually love the vocals (tho some may think annoying) and the guitar work is really crafty and good.
It was just great to get into the middle of everything and feel the vibes and connection.
and so on and suchforth..
The weekend was good.
Hung out with good friends and had nice times with them.. it was profit! |

[Jun. 15th, 2008|12:08 pm] |

aww..
this is my mom and my sister. Probably when my sister was around 1 and my mom's around 21-22. I think it was right before we moved to California. There's another cute photo, that I'll have to scan, of my mom and dad when we were living in Cali for Florida: my mom is sitting the baby chair while my dad (wearing questionably short shorts with a 'stache) is stuffing an ice cream cone to her mouth.
P.S. - My mom should go back to wearing big glasses. |

well, nearly.
it's nearly a competitor to puppets of "land of confusion"... nearly.. i still have nightmares.. I received my AA, so my parents threw a party and it was awesome :) it was very exciting.. the thrill of accomplishment. It's one piece of a grand puzzle that is called: My Lifepuzzler.
Hm..
Peter Gabriel is hot.

I need to clean my room.. the filth is piling up.
I've been feeling compelled to drink more.. I must squash the feeling. Even though Racers 2 for 5 ain't that bad for some fantastic beer.
I was there yesterday and drank five beers. They were all different and delicious. |

| | Silkworm - The Ram | ] | Ahhh, nothing like an after school drink at the bar to relax present and future nerves. Racers had the 2 for 5 special and I got Anchor's Bock and this German Weidenier(???) beer that tasted like a real Kolsch. Sit back, relax and watch Oprah's super spectacle with Carolyn (the old bartender). To all my current stresses, to all my situational issues, relationship blah-blahs, I just raise my glass and drink--'tis all I can do, to hope for the wind to blow past and I begin anew.
I re-kindled my Arrested Development flame by watching most of the seasons within the past two weeks.. A timeless comedy, filled with in-jokes and perverted zaniness.
Harford Road has a bunch of little secrets waiting to be discovered.. Mmm... Secrets.
I FIXED MY BIKE! OOO YEAH. I probably will need to alter/fix some specifics parts but they're minor to overall functionality of bike. I've been riding for the past few days and my ass is sore.. but I feel awesome and energetic--Feeling the burn.
Here's a weird self-indulgence thing I also picked up: Tanning. Yup. I'm doing it, gonna tan my pale ass 'til I cants get tans no moar (or the cancer hits me.. whatever comes first)
I'm going to see Polvo this Friday.. for a Reunion show, I think it'll be amazing. I want to pay attention to the way the play, on CD their guitar noodling is mesmerizing.
Ahh, I was watching MST3k last night.. That took me back to later childhood of weekend morning boredom satified by three guys watching corny movies and making fun of them.. Now its become a stoners delight.. hahaha. Amazing how things so pure in its original form can be wiciously twisted into a drugged perversion. Eh, that's perception for you.
Bands named after Dune? Its a toss up for me.. I do like Harkonen. But I heard Kwisatz Haderach and they're a pretty lame early 90's hardcore. It's a toss up.. Really. Sometimes, I wonder if Husker Du's 'The Spice' is inspired by Dune and its spice addiction.. But I kind of doubt that, songs are just open to interpretation.
Otherwise, I picked up a six pack of Oscar Blues' "Old Chub" and I think I'm set.
Oh.. Here's a weird revelation I had: Chris did this intentionally yesterday when Sarah and I were over there, he put on the first Genesis live album on the track "The Knife" speeding it up to 45 rpms .. I noticed that it sounds like the new Mars Volta album. Seriously. Especially the part where Peter Gabriel sings, "Stand up and fight for you know we are right.." Really. REALLY. REALLY sounds like Cedric from Mars Volta and the song overall sounds like a Mars Volta (less salsa-ish). |

Its remakes like Get Smart that make me hate Hollywood. I don't care if they have Don Adams rises up from the grave to reprive his role as (zombie-)Maxwell Smart.. it'll still be shitty and filled with irrelevant comedic nonsense. Sorry Steve Carrell.. stick with The Office.. this is a COMEDY TRAP.
Oh ... God..
why.. ..
WHY A DRAGON BALL MOVIE?
WHY.
WHY?! WHY?!?!?!
Great. This takes me back to middle/high school having to argue with so-called 'Anime-Experts' that there's more to anime that the Dragon Ball series. To the so-called 'Anime-Expert' this is considered hardcore Anime:
Dragon Ball (DUDES A KID AND HE CAN KICK ASS.) Dragon Ball Z (DUDE. HOW ABOUT THAT HOUR EPISODE THATS ONLY ABOUT GOKU SUMMONING THE SPIRIT BOMB--FOR THE WHOLE HOUR, NO KAME-HAME-HA, NO FIGHTING, NO DIALOUGE THAT LEADS TO NOTHING, JUST SPIRIT BOMB. BEST EPISODE EVER.) Dragon Ball Movies (DUDE. VEGETA IS HOT AND SO IS TRUNKS. NO, I'M NOT A FAG DUDE, I JUST THINK HE'S COOL.) Dragon Ball GT (DUDE. I JUST CAME OUT OF THE CLOSET AND I LOVE SOAP OPERAS.)
all other Anime, that do not fall under above field, are called:
Sailor Moon.
---
The headaches.. The anger.. The NERD RAGE. I felt it all.
Their sweaty, nerdy, fat appearance totally reeking of utter fail. Making up most of the Anime club in high school, is what made me disdained and disinterested in mingling with the so-called 'anime-experts' of the Anime club (with the exception of 3 of my friends who actually liked real anime).. Thank lordy for the intranet and AIM, for I had online friends who shared this same disdain as I. Thank you, thank you.. You all know who you are-- lets have an AIM chat like good ol' days (if its feasible) .. I have only one word... hahaha... the Elite!
In short: FUCK THE DRAGON BALL MOVIE. FUCK IT IN ITS SHINY STINKY ASSHOLE.
FUCK THE FACT THAT SPIKE (omg from Buffy) IS GOING TO STAR IN THE MOVIE.
FAILED. |

There. I said it. I specifically refer to Trick of Tail to Duke releases.
From the last few entries, the music has been good.
I've grown to love Boards of Canada.. I'm particular towards Geogaddi, Twoism, and the Trans-Canada Expressway EP. (Dayvan Cowboy is an amazing song) Some of their other releases are more heavily 'idm' than ambient.. I lean towards ambience, but I enjoy a good mix between both.
Jandek has been great reading music. A lot of songs remind me a lot of Thurston Moore's singing. The music is extremely moody, considering the unusual tuning and his haunting voice. I really enjoy Ready for the House and Chair Beside a Window.. really fucking scary. Chair Beside a Window actually features a percussionist which really reminds me of Moe Tucker's drumming from the Velvet Underground (especially from White Light/White Heat-era) and a scary lady singing 'nancy sings' .. I can't listen to Jandek before I sleep, it's a little creepy..
Zs are pretty great.. they remind me of Mothers of Invention, but more instrumental. The EP's are pretty damn good.
Can, I used to have Tago Mago, but it was destroyed because it was a weak, inferior compact disc. Tago Mago is the only one I've heard from Can (i've heard their other albums are also good) .. and it's pretty damn incredible to my ears.
The Mercury Players 7" - I like the other (Art Rock for Sale) 7" more.. this is ok, at best... :(
Big Black .. uh.. writing about them is not necessary.. they are amazing. end.
... the same goes for Today is the Day.
White Noise - This guy (?) falls into the 60's Psychedelic range. The British's response to The United States of America (another great psych band from the 60's) .. Like United States of America, White Noise specializes in samplings, electronics, and other recording trickeries, alittle more spacier.. They literally ooze sex with this deal.. Sex samples for a majority of the songs. I like it, overall, but the heavy spaciness in some songs leaves me a little dull, despite the sex samples over top of it..
Haha, for a good laugh and overall intrigue, I downloaded Lou Reed's Metal Music Machine .. I've been in the business of torturing my ears for the past year and a half. I figured 'why not listen to the man who helped originated that concept..' Even though, it'd probably be better to actually own a cassette or vinyls (though the latter is quite the $$$'s)
Final Thought:
This really isn't a thought, but a mere revival of one the greatest video's on YouTube (many of you may be familiar with this..)
YOU!
P.P.S
here's the Boards of Canada video, "Dayvan Cowboy":

I've got a few minutes before class, I just wanted to take a moment to write some happenings..
Chris has a new home at the Copy Cat. We've worked diligently and hard to make the best of his space. Managing to make the room more comfortable worked! I slept over there last night: the first night -- the trial! It wasn't bad. I also bought some Equate walmart brand Allergy pills, which worked very, very, VERY well. I am not as allergic to all four cats, hurray! Most know of my dilemma: I have a love for cats, but can't touch them for they cause trouble to my lungs, my skin, my eyes, my nose, and my lips (which get very very chapped..). Imagine a pair of lungs filled with dirty cat hair, collected dandruff, and furballs blocking any passage of air. I'm sure most have experienced this. Cats are easy pets and I used to have cats, so I understand the love . It's a pain. Anyway, allergy medicine is working great.
Ok, gotta go to Geography and learn about hearth diffusion, ethnic culture, and the three main house styles that dominant the US. (you know, new england, mid-atlantic, and southern tide houses). |

So I dl'ed the SciFi Dune TV miniseries.. and I can't stomach watching anymore of it.. I just ... I just can't.. :( I don't know if I'm supposed to like it or what. Atleast, I can appreciate the interpretation David Lynch created because of much of the deleted scenes that exist on the DVD, I know that he tried his hardest to make it somewhat faithful.. somewhat.
But.. The SciFi channel version.. I can't get over Paul's OOC-ness. Whiny little stupid brat (apparently has earned him a reputation from such in the Miniseries version). I guess I got too used to someone actually writing/performing Paul as Paul.. you know.. in character to a good degree.. And his sudden 'fit' of maturity is just too soon for me that I can't sit with it. They had the opportunity to fix where Lynch failed but kind of went Ass Backwards to get there and as a result created a lot of CRAP to the plot..
Fuck. I'll just stick with the book. Atleast Frank Herbert didn't fuck himself up.
And the THIRD PERSON directing Dune? Fuck that bullshit. Fuck it. Fuck it. Fuck it. I'm a hater, a non-believer. Good luck, BUCK. |
