I got here 4 weeks ago. I am leaving in 4 weeks. Starting now, the end of my journey in Germany is closer than the beginning. Things were ridiculously difficult for the first three weeks, more than I ever imagined possible. The weekend marks my first multiple good days in row. Which is a very very good thing. The good: - I'm starting to know my kids, and they me. - I'm starting to know what to do with them, and to be able to communicate what I want to do with them and their caregivers. - I understand German better than I did - I have a corner of apartment for myself, but it's also just off the common area, separated with a thick curtain, so I hear everything. It's not been a hug issue yet cause if I really want to, I can sleep through anything, but still. - I have a friend. With whom to go for tea and on adventures and play board games. The less good: - My spoken German, while it has gotten somewhat better, still isn't good enough to my liking - I'm realizing that I don't really like my job here. - I have no money, because my brother conveniently didn't tell me that I would only be paid after he got back. - I still find it difficult to Go Out and Do Stuff. - Getting up at 5:30 every morning is really really difficult, especially seeing as it's still dark when I leave the house. I'm dying my hair purple again today as a half-way mark.. or something. Tags: germany

So. In Berlin. free wifi! teehee! I got to the hostel yesterday and checked in and promptly went to bed, seeing as I'd gotten about two hours sleep on the plane from Montreal to London, and the whole time difference thing.. woke up once around probably 10 or 11 (I had no clock), again probably around 3, when I read two chapters of anansi boys and then went back to sleep till what I assume to be a bit before 10.. showered and dressed and left the hostel around noon. Walked around a lot, took pictures, headed back here 'round 6 and discovered I had access to free wifi, ran down to the lobby to get a password and login name and a bowl of soup (I was very very cold) and... here I am! Tomorrow I'm going to the Berlin Zoo, and then Friday I'm taking a walking tour of... I've forgotten now, but it should be a lot of fun :D Saturday my brother's picking me up on the way back from his trip to Denmark and then we're off to Leipzig, where I'll be till April. wheeeee! Wow. Haven't update this thing in.. over a month apparently. Lots has happened since Toronto :) However. The main object of this post is.. well.. I'm going to Germany for two months, followed by 10 days in London. I leave Feb 4th. I come back April 13th. My mind is like, WHOA. My brother, who's been living in Germany for 6 years, is going to Taiwan for 6 weeks, and asked me to substitute for him at work. He works in a day-care type place, and teaches little kids English. I am SO very excited. And well, I'm slowly moving over to here, the new blog, which is also mostly in French, and which I also don't update much. *dances* Tags: germany, travels
