A Cool New Hangout in Downtown Champaign

Great news for our music scene! The Clark Bar (former Nargile) just had its grand opening party yesterday.

If you're looking for a relaxing yet upscale nightclub, then this is the place to be. Every aspect of this venue has been revamped -- although the patio and the lounge are the absolute coolest changes. They've got great food, live jazz music, and (coming soon) local DJs spinning everything from house to electronica to goth. I'm even thinking of dropping by later tonight to throw down some Eurodance and disco house.

This place is sure to (again) become the new hotspot for downtown nightlife. I can't wait to see what's in store!

      The Clark Bar
      207 W Clark St
      Champaign, IL 61820

PS. There's apparently no cover charge on most nights. Also entry is restricted to persons 21 and older. Hope to see some of you there!

Indy to Champaign

I'm beginning to think this is hopeless, but I thought I'd give it a try. Saved $400 on the flight by flying there instead of Chicago, but gotta get the rest of the way.

Is there any way from the aiport in Indy to Champaign other than Lex? They want $100 for just a one way trip!!!!

I checked Greyhound (3am is the only bus) and Amtrak isn't much better.

Anybody found some secret, hidden gem of transport?

FREE White Ikea Benno CD/DVD tower

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70094953 (color=white)

Lovely tall CD/DVD storage tower with adjustable shelves, in near-new condition. Mounting hardware and instruction papers included! It will fall over if you don't secure it to the wall, and I live in a place with plaster walls, so I can't use it. White finish is a bit dusty and marked up from moving and storage, but should wipe clean easily.

Where is it? On State St. just north of Springfield in Champaign, there's a gray Victorian house. The house is set back from the road a bit, between a tan brick apartment building and the Central Illinois Bank. There's street parking in front of the apartment building. On the porch of the house, you can find the CD/DVD tower. One person can lift it easily, but it's nearly 7 feet tall, so keep that in mind. Please don't bother the nice people in the house; just take the tower if you want it. Thanks!

Looking for folding table

Hey folks. I'm looking to buy a standard long folding table for a project of mine. Anyone in Chambana have spare they don't need? I'd be willing to pay a few bucks for it.

Thanks!

Parking at Illinois Terminal

Is there a way to park at the train station for 2 weeks? On the Champaign city website, the terminal lot is listed as "$.75/hour," so i don't think that would work. Ideas? Thanks!

Chambana Area Movers?

My wife and I are looking for just hiring some muscle for when we get into town to unload our truck and help us move in. Does anyone know of any companies in the area that are licensed/bonded/insured? We were talking with Sims Moving, but they're over in Springfield and want to charge twice the hourly rate (at least) to drive over, and other folks in the C-U area we've called (namely CU Moving) haven't returned our calls when we've tried reaching them.

Any suggestions?

South Quad Construction

Anyone have an idea as to what's being built on the South Quad over by Temple Hoyne Buell Hall? It's thrown me for a loop as I pass by it everyday on my way to work.

Angie's List

Howdy gang.  I know a lot of entries in this community are for service recommendations in the area, and I thought you'd like to know that currently it's free to join Angie's List for the Illinois area (other)... which includes Chambana.  Not a lot there at the moment (hence the free) but if enough people know about it, it might be worthwhile. Thought someone might be interested. :)

landscaping?

I own a house that I am currently renting, and I have one tenant moving out and a new one moving in. I wanted to hire someone to do some landscaping as a one-time thing rather than a weekly lawn mowing thing (mostly to pull weeds, trim trees, and maybe plant some grass). Anyone know some good local landscapers? (I didn't see any posts in memories).

Scooters Ahoy!

Hey Chambana,

I'm sure we've all noticed the increase in scooters (and motorcycles) on the road. Keeping with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's slogan "All gear all the time," and observations that nearly no one in Chambana wears a full face helmet and other protective gear, let's have our guesses as to when the first scooter death or serious accident will occur.

My guess: middle of September.

Remember folks:
- Road rash is sexy and skin grafts are fun
- Jaw reconstruction is awesome (so stick with the half-helmets!)
- Knuckles and hands love being scraped against the pavement, and riding gloves are only for those 'professionals' on the track
- Knees are meant to be scratched up (so let's go riding with those shorts and those skirts)
- Most accidents are not the fault of another vehicle, especially not one making a left turn slamming front first into the side of a scooter/motorcycle operator
- Colliding with another vehicle/wiping out at 30mph isn't going to do 'much' damage, so who cares about gear

Just to reiterate: half/three quarter helmets are great at protecting you in a crash. Just imagine if this rider had been wearing one:

"women's health"

I am due for a "women's" check-up and I heard that there was a place in town that has only women doctors. Does anyone know if this place is good, and more specifically, if there is a certain doctor there whom you have tried and would recommend? Also, how long is the wait for an appointment if nothing is wrong, and you just need your yearly check-up?

Thanks everyone!

This question is for people living on/in the vicinity of campus. How important is proximity to campus when you're looking for an apartment? If you live further away from campus, how is it? Do buses come regularly? Do they come late at night and on the weekends?

I have a pretty hellish commute to my job now, so living three miles away with a 20-minute bus ride sounds like paradise. But I wonder if I'm going to think that when I'm actually on campus and (very likely) running late to class. Or during winter. Three miles of snow is a lot of snow.

Any thoughts?

Also, randomly, is there a store in town that sells loose spices? For those times when you only need one bay leaf.

Has anyone gotten color at the Regency Beauty Institute? What was your experience?

I love having highlighted hair, but I can't afford what I am spending right now.  Any suggestions are very welcome!

I'm also looking for a place with cheap, sanitary eyebrow waxes (Under $10).
