Book Review of The Blue Beetle Companion: His Many Lives From 1939 To Today by Christopher Irving.
Interesting, though not quite what I was expecting. I'd only suggest you read it if you happen to be interested in the history of comics publishing, because that's what this is. The way the character 'Blue Beetle' moved from Fox Features and a sketchy beginning as a blatant Green Hornet rip-off to Charlton and DC, and a lot of gossipy behind the scenes tidbits about the various publishers, artists and writers.
The other useful thing about this book is a number of black and white reprints of old comics pages and strips from the Daniel Garett The Cop era that don't seem to be commonly available. For Example:

You might want to see if you can get it through your local public library. It definitely held my attention. |

On the television show Stargate Atlantis, David Hewlett plays Rodney McKay, hypochondriac astrophysicist, and Joe Flannigan plays Colonel John Sheppard, football loving flyboy. They often talk comics, bewildering their alien teammates. Teyla: "I am not an invisible girl."
Fruiturchin did this illustration of the two of them as Booster and Beetle. |

Doctor V suggested I post this over here. My attempt to work out the Carter Family timeline, with various scans.
I've seen Boosterrific, but are there any comprehensive sources for character bios/canon that I'm missing? For Ted and Mike? I'm going through the local library's limited collection of trade paperbacks, and digging around in Scans Daily, but I'm still trying to catch up on backstory. |

Three cool Booster Gold songvids I found on Youtube: and a request. Does anyone know where I can get scans of JLI 41: particularly Max Lord/Maximum Force? Lady Moondancer once had them posted to scans daily, but they've gone the way of the red x.

| | curious | ] | Okay, so you know how Booster was dating Firehawk for a while there (omg randomest ever) and Ted cried? I do know that their relationship started in Chase #4, 1998 (Boosterrific.com...great resource, or greatest resource?). But a couple years ago I was flipping through some completely random title in my LCS, and though IIRC Booster didn't appear in it, Ted did, and he made some remark about Booster having abandoned him for Firehawk. Fool that I am, I didn't buy it, and now I have no idea what it was. Anyone know? |

Title: La Vie en Rose Fandom: DC Comics (Boostle) Rating: PG-13 Summary: Paris is for lovers. At least, Booster hopes so. Notes: This takes place before and during this scene in Justice League International #8. This issue, which was the first time Ted and Booster appeared unmasked together, came out one month after Michelle died over in Booster Gold, which I've always found to be interesting (albeit almost certainly coincidental) timing. It's also worth knowing that Ted's relationship with his almost-fiancee was falling apart in his own series, that he does in fact canonically speak Arabic (the next month saw him jetting off to Iran in his own series), and that I have a head full of crazy fanon about his mother. Oh, and the Dibnys, who I believe neither of the boys had met at this point, make a brief cameo. Also, I'm pretty sure I've used this title before, but that song is perfect for this so I don't care. (Also I know they say it's afternoon, but it's REALLY DARK there, so I took some liberties. Okay, I'm done now.) ETA: Big ups to mizzmarvel for the beta! She spins my straw into gold.

[Jun. 26th, 2008|10:03 am] |
Under the cut is a drawn submission I did for the DCU FFA *which is really fun* and the pencil undersketch for a painting I am doing for docv. The photo doesn't -really- give the size but the canvas is about 27x35" (if my inches are correct). It is larger than I have done in a long time but smaller than my usual paintings.

[Jun. 26th, 2008|10:03 am] |

And yet we make fun of how TED dresses. Oh Michael.... Yes, folks, he is wearing a tuxedo shirt, tie and jacket over his costume. (He's only twenty! He's been in the present for two months! When Trixie tied the tie for him, she totally thought he was going to lose the cowl and put on pants before leaving for his date with Monica!)
I got the Showcase Presents: Booster Gold b&w reprint book from the library.

The ninth take of the Flakies cereal commercial. Couldn'tcha just pinch his little cheeks? |
