Mads did it: trying to bring some organization to fandom's participation in the LJ Ad Board elections, and make something useful from the past year's debacle.

Aptly named, uh, Fandom_Votes.

sga john is actually asleep
I'm overtired, and I'm using the internet to keep me awake longer than I should be. I'm watching the Yankees out of the corner of my eye, but really, I just need to go to sleep and stop spamming LJ.

Meanwhile, for all you writers out there, a poem which has absolutely no bearing on my life right now:

Man Writes Poem

This just in a man has begun writing a poem
in a small room in Brooklyn. His curtains
are apparently blowing in the breeze. We go now
to our man Harry on the scene, what's

the story down there Harry? "Well Chuck
he has begun the second stanza and seems
to be doing fine, he's using a blue pen, most
poets these days use blue or black ink so blue

is a fine choice. His curtains are indeed blowing
in a breeze of some kind and what's more his radiator
is 'whistling' somewhat. No metaphors have been written yet,
but I'm sure he's rummaging around down there

in the tin cans of his soul and will turn up something
for us soon. Hang on - just breaking news here Chuck,
there are 'birds singing' outside his window, and a car
with a bad muffler has just gone by. Yes ... definitely

a confirmation on the singing birds." Excuse me Harry
but the poem seems to be taking on a very auditory quality
at this point wouldn't you say? "Yes Chuck, you're right,
but after years of experience I would hesitate to predict

exactly where this poem is going to go. Why I remember
being on the scene with Frost in '47, and with Stevens in '53,
and if there's one thing about poems these days it's that
hang on, something's happening here, he's just compared the curtains

to his mother, and he's described the radiator as 'Roaring deep
with the red walrus of History.' Now that's a key line,
especially appearing here, somewhat late in the poem,
when all of the similes are about to go home. In fact he seems

a bit knocked out with the effort of writing that line,
and who wouldn't be? Looks like ... yes, he's put down his pen
and has gone to brush his teeth. Back to you Chuck." Well
thanks Harry. Wow, the life of the artist. That's it for now,

but we'll keep you informed of more details as they arise.

-Jay Leeming

10!
I recced it before, but I'm reccing it again, because now I know who wrote it: Lines of Division (Terminus Est Extended Dance Mix) is [info]p_zeitgeist's remix of a story that I wrote for Yami Valentine (for RackhamRose, I think), called Crossing the Line. The remix manages to be funny AND heartwarming AND plotty AND thoughtful AND complex AND in some places, completely on crack :D All at the same time!

I am amused that we were assigned to remix each other; when I was fretting about remix angst PZ was answering with her own angst in comments and now it turns out we were mutually comforting each other during the process and didn't know it :D But I am also pleased, because PZ's Yami no Matsuei stories are things of beauty, and it gave me a good reason to sit and read them all again.

Gus is judging your Remix fic

gus is judging you
So I've been sitting here thinking that my Remix fic sucks, which is what everyone does, I suppose. Then I started asking myself WHY I think that, because, the point of Remix is to rewrite the story the way you would have written it. And that's what I did. As opposed to Yuletide, where you write a story FOR someone else, a recipient, as a gift. Remix isn't supposed to be a gift, is it? Just some fun with other people's stuff. And in that case, I am amused by my remix, even its clever title which I invented all by myself, so I should stop thinking that it sucks. Because it doesn't matter, really, if the original author doesn't LIKE it (even though psychologically, I WANT them to). I mean, I'm looking forward to seeing what someone did with any of my stories that they remixed, but I'm not going to judge them badly for writing a Remix I don't like, because it's SUPPOSED to be how THEY would have done things, and therefore, the only one who needs to like it - is them.

Am I off base?

Is my grammar incorrect? *worries*

keep fighting
The Low Road

What can they do
to you? Whatever they want.
They can set you up, they can
bust you, they can break
your fingers, they can
burn your brain with electricity,
blur you with drugs till you
can't walk, can't remember, they can
take your child, wall up
your lover. They can do anything
you can't stop them
from doing. How can you stop
them? Alone, you can fight,
you can refuse, you can
take what revenge you can
but they roll over you.

But two people fighting
back to back can cut through
a mob, a snake-dancing file
can break a cordon, an army
can meet an army.

Two people can keep each other
sane, can give support, conviction,
love, massage, hope, sex.
Three people are a delegation,
a committee, a wedge. With four
you can play bridge and start
an organization. With six
you can rent a whole house,
eat pie for dinner with no
seconds, and hold a fund raising party.
A dozen make a demonstration.
A hundred fill a hall.
A thousand have solidarity and your own newsletter;
ten thousand, power and your own paper;
a hundred thousand, your own media;
ten million, your own country.

It goes on one at a time,
it starts when you care
to act, it starts when you do
it again after they said no,
it starts when you say We
and know who you mean, and each
day you mean one more.

Hi, Remixer! I wanted to say that just because we're specifically matched in one fandom, please feel free to remix any story in any fandom I've ever written in, ever :D

Unless that's explicitly against the rules (but I don't THINK so ...). Then, in that case, don't do it, or [info]musesfool will get you with the giant poky stick.

Oh, also, all of my fanfiction is at skyehawke.com under bonibaru, with the possible exception of some hp100 and fuda_100 drabbles, which are in my memories under my fanfiction. You know, if you're struggling.

not evil
So there's this auction called Sweet Charity, which many of you know. And there's this vidder named [info]fan_eunice, who many of you know. And there's this fandom called Dr. Who, which many of you know. And then there's me, whom obviously you all know.

And I have this reputation. For evil. Although I cannot for the life of me understand where this came from. I mean, you win a couple of vidders in a couple of auctions and you have them make vids that are a teensy bit out of their comfort zone ... *shrugs* Evil is such a broad term.

Anyway, I won Eunice in this round of auctions, and I asked her to make a Dr. Who vid for me.

It was fate, really. )

Here is the vid, in all its glory. It is a masterful work of genius; I may have openly wept (with joy) upon watching it for the first time. Please to be going forth and also to be feedbacking; Eunice suffered greatly for her art, and for the Universe's whim. Feedback is the balm to a vidder's tormented soul.

My visceral reaction to the plagiarism of [info]thamiris's life is not so much at the idea of it happening, because nothing that anyone does on the internet is a surprise to me any more. Tham herself probably would have been flattered. She's likely watching from whatever plane she's on now, just hoping that no one contacts her family (as I have seen suggested in some of the threads, regarding LJ Abuse reports). Because she never wanted her family to know about LJ and fanfic, when she was with us.

My reaction is entirely disproportionate to the magnitude of the event, because seeing this reminds me that she is dead and there's no more of her to be had, and what little we have of her is precious to me. So to have her precious words and feelings stolen, is an extra disgusting concept. It brings up feelings of grief and anger, where normally I would just snort, "You're an ass," and move along.

I'm shocked that this person has been doing this since JUNE (unless the calendar entries in hir LJ are post-dated?) and it took us this long to find out.

As one commenter said, in one of many threads I can't remember now, and I quote from them, "When Thamiris died, it broke my heart. Thanks for breaking it all over again."

Lifted this from [info]37_days who got it from Lela Davidson. It makes me think that God is something like [info]mazar, or at least talks like she does.

God Says Yes to Me

I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes

OK. So because I'm about to change jobs and start graduate school, and my time will be much more limited, I've just done a fairly substantial friends-list cut. Please don't take any recent unfriending personally. Most of the journals that I cut were 2nd or 3rd journals of existing LJfriends, journals that haven't updated in a while, journals of people who never friended me back, journals of people who haven't commented in a while so I assume you're not reading, and journals of people who didn't take my recent "are you reading me?" poll, who I assumed - aren't reading me. I.e., journals of folks I assume won't care about being cut.

However! If you do want to be added back - please drop a comment here. This LJ is f-locked by default, so you can't read any of my entries if I've unfriended you, and if I made a mistake in my estimates and you ARE still reading and want to keep reading, I'll gladly add you back!

tsuzoka
Today someone asked me what I love most about Yami no Matsuei, and I had to do just a bit of searching for this post, but then I found it and rather than explain it all in my own poorly-chosen words I just directed her here.

But mostly I love it for the Hisoka/Tsuzuki, because I am a sap, I really am, and Hisoka never thought anyone would want to save him and Tsuzuki never thought he deserved to be saved. I love it because Hisoka snarls and Tsuzuki brings him cold soda, because Hisoka's bait in a trap and Tsuzuki comes for him anyway, because they merge everything they are within two days of meeting each other, because they're holding each other together in flames.
