Yay! I did it! This is one for the records folks.. Yesterday I successfully defended my MA thesis in front of friends, colleagues and committee members. I'm quite please to say that it went even smoother than I ever could have hoped. I was commended for a well written thesis, insightful responses to the committee's questions, and complimented on my new professional appearance (LOL.. for real this happened during the defence). Three of my committee members encouraged me to pursue a PhD (not happening any time soon) while my supervisor, Joel, thought encouraging me to write an article based on my thesis would be a more convincing way to lead me back to academia in the future (I'll consider his suggestion). Following the thesis defence, I drank (several, free) drinks out of the mug of knowledge and have a souvenir photo of this event which you will no doubt be forced to see. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you as soon as possible and thanking you individually for the role you played in my shared success from proofreading my thesis, to supporting me when I was overwhelmed, to challenging me on what I've written, to welcoming me so warmly when I moved back to Toronto. Specifically though, I would like to thank my parents, Margo and Nic as well as my brother Elliot. In my acknowledgements section to my thesis I thank them for having high expectations which motivated me to start this degree, and their emotional support which allowed me to finish it. Thanks, fam. :)
Good (very good!!) day!
P.S. Special thanks to Pezchicafor helping me relax before the defense, and then run around and do errands for me so I could practice for the presentation. You really helped with all the details, thank you so much!
P.P.S. Thanks also to ciliagirl and fetishista for coming to celebrate after the defense. It was great to have your company!

So today I tried to get the pictures of my NY trip from my digi camera onto my PC. I plugged the camera (a fuji finepix) in the USB port on my computer, as I always do. Usually, the picture wizard pops up and magically transfers my photos for me. This time, no such luck. It recgonized that my camera was connected by showing it when I went to "my computer", but when I manually tried to transfer it would either say "camera is busy" or "no camera connected" despite the camera's screen showing that the USB thing was connected.
Does anyone know why this is? Or more important, how can I fix it? If I plug my camera into someone elses computer, will it work?
