My co-mod and I have recently discussed the new additions to our rules regarding our earlier post, so we do apologize in advance that it's not completely clear as of yet. But rest assured, that this clean out will not alter 50scenes style of casual writing drastically. We want to approach the problems at hand without leaving out the members that we try to please on a daily basis ;) Here's a basic rundown of how this new system will work.

PURGED CLAIMS: Any claims that have not been touched at all (or have never been used) after 6 months of inactivity will be purged (or removed). This in no way disrupts our rules - they are free to re-apply at any time if they wish.

FROZEN CLAIMS: These are for claims that have had scenes posted previously but have been inactive for 6 months. Frrezing claims will occur in two different stages to minimize offending any writers and the prompts they've already written. The first stage is that, if your claim(s) have not been updated in over six months, we will freeze them. This only means that we will notify users via the community that they have an extra three months to write something for their prompt. You are free to comment and let us know you're busy, but still interested in finishing it, or you're on hiatus due to RL, etc., and we will not include your claim as frozen.

If we have no word from the 6 to 9 months time frame we've given, those frozen claims will be moved to a permanently frozen section. This means that we remove your claim from our lists, and they will be opened up for other users to claim themselves. However, should you return some fateful day to see your permanently frozen claim (and you still want it), you may re-apply at the Claiming a Subject post, and if there's a spot open for your claim, we will allow you to continue where you left off. This way, anyone that has for some reason or another, had to abandon their claim for a period of time may return and continue, if a spot is open. If not, we wait until a spot opens up and all is well.

This method will show us how many users are busy, or have just abandoned them. Many people do lose interest in their claims, stop using livejournal, or whatever have you. Others may have conflicts that prevent them from finishing them. We hope that this way, we clear out those unresolved claims, and still give other users that still want to continue with their claim to do so at a small price.

In order to keep your claims as 'active', all we ask is that you post at least once every six months. That's a total of at least two scenes a year. Hence, no pressure. With the way that this works, it could take you over 25 years to complete your claim. There is no way that we're asking you to complete your claim in six months, that is simply impossible.

We're not trying to put pressure on writers to continue with their prompts. There is no pressure here -- you are free to write at your own leisure, with a warning that our claims cannot continue to be clogged up due to no notification of the status of your claim. If you want to let us know you're busy, or just don't have the muse, do so! We will not hold it against you. If not, come back when you like and we'll try to get your claim back on track as soon as possible.

We appreciate the ideas mentioned in our last post by members to fix the problem by making unlimited claims, however, it is not something that we are interested in doing at the time. The limits are in place to prevent the community to be overrun with a continuous fandom/pairing. We want to keep the community as versatile and well-rounded as possible, and we feel that making claims at an unlimited capacity is not what this community is about. Perhaps in the future, if the community gets larger and it is something we cannot avoid for the sake of sheer numbers, but not quite yet.

Dear members,

As our community is expanding and we're getting more and more members and claims, we've realised that in order for no one to be left out, we need to begin to recycle unused claims.

Whilst this will not be a major thing for most of you, there are still many many members who have joined and not posted a thing to this community. We're not chastising you in any way, we realise that there's a thing called life and commitments and important things. We have them too. But this still makes it quite unfair to new members who can't join because of the clogged up claims.

Therefore, to resolve this problem and tidy up again, we're proposing the Great Big Clean Out. Members who have not written for a long time but have started the claims, will have their claims frozen and posted in a new thread, aptly titled Frozen Claims.

For members who have never posted, but have had their table up until Nov 07 will have their claims Purged and recycled for others to use.

We're still tweaking on the rules for now, but what is definately happening is the Clear Out. To be honest, it has to happen if we want to continue running somewhat efficiently. If you have any questions or queries or you hate what's happening, please let us know.

We know that much of you like to have invisible mods that don't interfere or annoy you, but it's a lot easier with the interfereing, heh. The one thing I will say for definate, is that this rule is not going to apply to us mods, unless we actually *drop* our respective claims. This is my decision, because I do think that we deserve a little slack. But if anyone has any issues, please let me know. Sorry, that was wrong. Oops.

Anyway, the Great Big Clear Out and the Freezing/Purging is currently going on behind the scene and we're hoping to post this out soon and introduce the new rules in a little while after tweaking and fixing has occured.

I'd also like to take this moment to introduce the newest members to the modmin sect, darkclockwork who is just positively awesome and did most of the work. Please give her love and props. :)
