Know by Heart

Have you ever thought you knew the words to a song and then been shocked to find out what the lyrics really were? What was the song? Did you like your version better?

  • Kelly Clarkson's new song "I Do Not Hook Up," definitely thought the last part of the chorus was--

Cuz the boy that you're trying to hide, I'll fight to save tonight.

    Nope. It's--

Cuz the more that you try, the harder I'll fight to say goodnight.

I don't care, I still sing my version. In light of a couple of unfortunate events that just took place, I like my version better.

  • When I was a kid, I thought "It's hip to be square", was "Hit the B square."
  • Not really shocked, just, slightly surprised. There've been many an Adam and the Ants songs I thought I knew the words to then didn't. Truth is I liked their's better.

  • The theme song to M*A*S*H will have to really take the cake.  I really liked the song so when I found it in a book of Lyrics from 1979  I had to have the book.  I was only 15 at the time. So when I found out one of my favorite theme songs was called 'If Suicide were Painless'. I did a little bit of growing up.  Up till that point I never even knew the meaning of the word. But after matching the lyrics to the music I loved to hum.  Well let’s just say that was one of many items I hid from dear ol’ mom.

  • The song "She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper. I knew all the words, and the words I knew were correct, but being an 11 year old girl, the true meaning of this song was lost on me. I thought the song was about dancing. What it's really about? Masturbation. XD I think the real meaning of the song is much more clever and funnier than my original thoughts on what the song means.
  • Ha, yeah! the song pocket full of sunshine. i would always sing those lyrics wrong. i thought it was  - i got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine. i got a bow and i know that it's all mine, ho :D wow, i knew i had real bad hearing :)) that's no joke because my friend Katie thought I was singing them wrong and she and I had to look em up, just so she could prove me wrong :D but i think i like the orignal version better =)! still love that song^^!
  • I do that quite a lot actually, the one song that sticks in my mind is 20 Dollar Nose Bleed. I love it so much, especially the lyrics that I knew but I always thought it said "don't let the doctor in, I want to go to sleep." but it turned out to be "I want to blow off steam."

Yeah... my version was so much better XD
  • Warren G had a song out that was my favorite. I thought the words was he had stolen Lawrence Welk, but turns out he stole Lauren's wealth...wait stole Larul's wealth....hmm guess I still don't know. We just sing real loud Lawrence Welk for the humor now.
