  • Our throwaway society disposes of everything and anything at the least whim and much of what's disposed of is still quite good and potentually useful. I keep my eyes open to potentually useful stuff parked beside trashcans and dumpsters. I found a forsythia root ball this past spring which grew when I took it home and planted it. I also find lots of bagged raked leaves. I even found a sturdy old chair with a 'free' sign on it that I use in the yard when I gardening. Who knows what else I'll find by the side of the road given time?
  • I once found an old camera. It's fierce. I've yet to get it to work. I'd love to though! Also, I went antique shopping in Florida and found some old Olivia Newton-John records not to mention the Xanadu [flop of a movie] record. I was so excited!
  • i swear this question was made for me. i can't pass up ANYTHING free. like seriously. i love spring because it's like tag sale season. gjskdhfjksdkfhd best tag sales ever. so anyway, this may they had this day devoted to tag sales where i live and i got up at 8 and stayed until all the tag sales were closed. then i looked through their free boxes!! well .. one tag sale was tired of staying open and they left everything out with a huge sign that said everything is free take what you want. and i took like fksdfjksdjh so much stuff i didn't need. there was really nice china sets and a recliner! picture frames clothes everything. it was the most amazing thing ever. i love free stuff. i send for all the free samples online with my spare time hahahaha
  • We found my brother under a rock.

But the best thing is everything that my dad's clients are just going to throw away, but my dad gets it instead, like my bedroom set. : )
  • Guitar hero 3 for PS2 shortly after it came out, with the guitar, all of it in perfect working order. It really is amazing what the world will throw out.
  • 65%-85% of everything i own... including my guitar stuff and this computer :).

  • Here's a wonderful video of Carl Sagan discussing how the persistence of apathy towards scientific advances could lead us back into another Dark Ages, as he calls "a thousand years of darkness."

And crap.  I actually shed a tear watching the next video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JX_-jaJOrU
He was so enthusiastic about his work!  He's an inspiration to all of us, especially those who wish to uncover nature's secrets, and share them with the rest of the world.

  • Hmm..... we found some brand new items that someone from a major department store had tossed into their dumpster to remove later on that evening...
  • I make stuff out of other people's junk ALL the time!! I'm wonderful at it, actually! Usually they turn into hats, but I've made a whirlpool bath for Dormouse, knick-knacks for the Queen, and even some gardening things for Hare!

Anyone who has seen my attic can attest to the fact that I'm a big fan of collecting other people's trash! *laughs*
