Who is your favorite mythical creature/character, and why?

  • To my darlings a mythical person is Odissey, for his exploits, resourcefulness and passion to the trips.

  • That is a difficult question to answer but i would have to choose Fairies. This is because Fairies are often the guardians of the elements, linked to the mystical and magical nature of the world and have pure magic of their own and can fly with beautiful wings. Also they are fun and mischievous!

  • Well, I tend to be fascinated with gods or goddesses of the moon. This probably is rooted in my love with the show Sailor Moon. And for magical creature it is so difficult! I'm rather partial to phoenixes or dragons I suppose. I'll have to edit this later with more rambling. :D
  • If anyone knows me, they'll know what I'm going to say. Let's roll. My favorite mythical creature is the Unicorn. I had this unicorn poster as a kid I think my love of unicorns started with my love of all things equine. When I was a very, very young toddler we lived in a rental house and across from that house was a field with a donkey and some horses. Mom would take me over to see them, feed them apples, and pet them. I liked it so much that I would cross the busy road in front of our little rental house to try and go see them on my own, much to my mother's chagrin. So, from there, my Asperger-fueled toddler focus was on horses, and by extension, unicorns. My folks would get me things like My Little Ponies for birthdays or Christmas, and when we went to the library I would always get any books or movies that had unicorns or horses in them (years of reading Marguerite Henry, lol.) It was probably my first Aspergers obsession, to be honest. It still hasn't really gone away -- I love them, yet. The traditional unicorn is kind of boring to me. Old dusty historians wrote about some kind of malevolent longhorn beast that looks like a glorified goatboar? Yawn. Not that amazing. Nevermind that it was twisted from a beast of a far-off land into some kind of medieval cure-all/allegory of purity. The medieval unicorn does nothing but be ensnared by virgins to later be poached into poison-testing goblets for the bourgeoisie. What I really love about unicorns is the creative freedom and magic that come with their modern interpretation. Traditional unicorns are a bland white helpless creature, but the creations of childrens' toy marketers are these blindingly bright-colored animals that are energetic, rainbow-hued symbols of feminine power, freedom, and joy. A magical iridescent beast who can do ANYTHING? Sign me up! As a budding young artist, the attractive qualities of a horse combined with the palette of an oil slick became my world. In the end, I love their colorful re-imagining moreso than their traditional selves. Well, that doesn't mean I don't think that unicorns are real somewhere beyond the veil. They can't live in our physical part of the world, but who's to say if they live on another planet or if the quantum vagaries of the non-physical realms contain them? It's nice to believe. -Jessica

  • Vampires! I think most of the appeal comes from the fact that they are immortal. I was twelve or thirteen when I fell in love with vampires and at that age most kids feel like they will live forever. That was part of the appeal for me, at least. Plus there's the added element of danger that vampires have, and that's alluring for some reason, logical or not.

  • Princess Kaguya, from the Japanese myth, Tale of the Bamboo cutter. She was kind, loved her family, and she didn't let herself get married off so easily.
