10 meters of linen hemmed! It took me about 15 hours and they did get neater as I went by. I got the tip from Virginiadear at LJ that you can starch the linen for even more neatness and then wash it out, but as I had already started I kept going. I will keep it in my mind for the next time, though! I whip stitched the top and bottom of the sleeves as they aren't hemmed. Arnold doesn't say...

X-posted to my own journal Today I cut out and started sewing a 17th century shirt for J. I'm basing it on a pattern in Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 4, on page 74-75. Shirt patterns didn't change much over the course of the 16th to 18th century and all the patterns I have seen after extant examples looks basically like this: A long rectangle forms the body, smaller rectangles the sleeves...

Ok, so not so much a dress diary as an outfit diary, part one. silk brocade kirtle, c15th, handsewn, finished - I don't much see the point in doing a step by step for a c15th kirtle, as there are already many to choose from. It will be worn beneath this gown, which is in progress still to come, shoes, belt, hat, necklace(which I've also begun)

I want to put together a Scadian song book for my boyfriend (a squire) as a Christmas gift. Does anyone have any recommendations of popular songs (especially any that are particularly popular in Æthelmearc)?
