Gafilk Highlights
New Friends
I met a bunch of new people and thoroughly enjoyed talking with them, including:
Teri Wachowiak, Steve and Colleen Savitzky, Brian Richardson (Brian played most of the percussion on my CD "Zen Cappuccino") and Paul Esten.
I thoroughly enjoyed Steve and Teri's concerts too!!
FilkHaven Buttons
Dave Alway made a bunch of well-designed colorful buttons for members of FilkHaven, an online chat room that I frequent. I am quite delighted with my button, thank you Dave!
Lounge Discussions
Chatting on a range of topics, including kids, comics, smut (yes, I did type "smut" that's not a typo), techy topics, how to stay happily married, etc.
Banquet and Dance
The Gafilk House Band was fabulous, just fabulous. I dressed up, ate dinner and chocolate cake dessert and danced, and danced and danced. I danced with Debbie Ohi, Sherman Dorn, Juanita Coulson, John Hall, and just about anybody I could get on the floor with me : - )
The Gafilk House Band played jazz in the 1930's and 1940's style, including songs such as Stormy Weather, Urban Tapestries' "Sex and Chocolate" and Chris Conway's "Alien Jellyfish Song."
Let me note the trumpet player Dave "The Lips" Rood was particularly dashing on stage in his tux :- ) (Oh and BTW,. Dave is the Gafilk Toastmaster for 2005.)
Open Filk
On Friday I played in the "secondary" room, enjoying the music and Chaos Filk running style of Teri Wachowiak. Teri ran the Chaos filk by having the person who just sang hand-off an orange ball to the person of their choice who was interested (i.e. holding up their hand) to play next. I liked that style, it prevented the performers from inadvertently treading on each other from song to song. Also led to some fun topic and mood changes ;-)
I also greatly admired the excellent guitar playing and percussion skills of Teri's band "The Space Pirates."
Saturday night I played in the same room, "standard" chaos style. I listened to Three Weird Sisters, Paul Esten, Bill Roper, Terence Chua, Sherman Dorn, Juanita Coulson, John Hall, Philip Parker, Jim Polterone . .(If I missed someone, sorry :-( )
Ah yes, a great evening of music.
I managed to sneak in a little more music on Sunday before flying back to Dayton, late that night.
Many thanks to the Gafilk concom, for your hard work, patience and great planning!!
