[public] conversations with my mother

So, I'm in Vegas. I've flown down here for the weekend with my mum. We've met up with one of my uncles who also flew in for the weekend.

Getting to the airport on Thursday, my mother looked at me - I was wearing my black cheerleader skirt, which is super comfortable to travel in and has no metal parts, plus my black buckled boots - and said, "Couldn't you have dressed more conservatively?"

Friday, we were walking out to lunch together. I was wearing the same boots, with a spaghetti strap dress. The dress comes just below the knee. As we walked, she looked over and said, "You should have that dress hemmed."

[public] adventures in vacationing, short form version

day 5: disneyland, disney's california adventure, downtown disney, espnzone (for dinner), back to disneyland. this day was so crazy full of things. at the end, i think we may have fallen over. our ride circuit was really efficient and we got a ton of rides in despite the fact that i was lagging a bit 2/3rds of the way through because of my knee pain.

day 6: slept in a bit. went to the valley of the dolls (refrained from buying dolls, but bought doll accessories). guy gave me a complete set of postcards for the upcoming show of a pullip artist i'm in love with. drove back to little osaka and hit giant robot, gr2, and peeked in at gr/eats. ate at the curry house (japanese curry, nyom!). went back to the purikura store and took more pictures. (the james declined to be in any, and instead sat on the couch and watched christina aguilera). after i was purikura'd out, we made a quick visit to venice beach before heading out to rowland heights to visit arcade infinity, where i was able to play para para paradise for the first time in, i think, years. turns out i still know a majority of the dances. it was all kinds of fun. next to arcade infinity is a huge store that was full of purikura machines, too! didn't take any because it was late and i was in disarray from playing ppp. headed back to hotel to stare at all the crap i have to pack soon. not sure it's going to fit.

[public] not at home

So, I'm not at home right now. I'm on (really needed) short vacation in California. Specifically, Anaheim/Los Angeles. We arrived on Monday. So far, our days have been pretty packed. Here's a quick recap to make up for not having posted lately!

day 1: Went to the Block at Orange. Had lunch at this sushi place I like. Did some shopping (mostly just window shopping), watched The Dark Knight. Went back to the hotel and checked in. May have done other things, but I can't remember anymore.

day 2: Disneyland + downtown Disney. Too. Much. Fun. (Thanks again for the tix, [info]dotgirl and [info]collisons!)

day 3: Santa Monica. Walked the Promenade. Tommy Chong had a reading/signing at the Barnes and Noble there. Random. Went down the beach, hung out on the pier. Watched the sun set. Drove/wandered back up the Pac Coast Highway.

day 4: Melrose. Shopping. Went to JapanLA, Kid Robot, Shrine, MunkyKing and a bunch of other random places. Headed to little Osaka, checked out Happy Six (full of the tokidoki!) and a little shop full of Japanese photo booths. That's where I got the pictures up below (click for a larger version). I love those machines so much. They had approximately 9 different types inside the store. Plus, they'd laminate and scan a sheet for $1 and send you the scans in email. I want to go back. I even made the James do a set with me.

purikura! <3

We went to JapanLA twice. The girl there was glad we came back because she'd been describing my skirt to the other woman there. She also went to her car to get her Polaroid camera so she could take a picture. She took an extra one for me to take with me. It was really cool.

All in all, the trip has been wonderful so far. De-stressing, which is what I've really, really needed. Going back out to Disneyland tomorrow. Really should be asleep by now. Been plurking/twittering as I can, so if you want up to the minute updates, that's where you should go. (Then you'd know I passed Rhianna on the street today!)

Hope to post more/more regularly now that I'm a. bit less of a stressball. Hi.

'maybe' is not a no. so if you see food, you'll likely get hungry.
Zannah [11:51 AM]:
your logic is flawed.
like, if i see a knife, i'm not going to get stabby.
i'm already stabby.
i may or may not be hungry before i see food.
food doesn't make me hungry!
Gamma [11:52 AM]:
if you are possibly stabby, and you see a knife, you may GET stabby.
now, insert "hungry" for "stabby"
Zannah [11:52 AM]:
if i see a knife i might get hungry.

[public] i love this car

silver shelby cobra

This is a really crappy picture, because it turns out I basically suck at taking pictures of cars in the sun with crowds of people around. It is not what one would call an "ideal picture-taking situation". Macro/close-up pictures of small toys? I'm your girl. Full-length pictures of cars in crowded situations with poor lighting? Not so much. So, please accept my apology for the complete lack of composition or any type of thing that would make this a decent photograph.

Anyway. The Shelby Cobra. Next to the Bugatti Veyron, this is my favourite car. I saw one for the first time last year and I've just been in love ever since. I loved that this one was metallic silver.

Yesterday, they closed off a stretch of street near me and had a classic car show. The number of Shelby Cobras in the show (both this version and the new version) was exponentially higher than last year. This made me very happy.

I also got completely sunburned. This did not make me happy.

Turns out I have a livejournal? Which I haven't had time to even look at for the last two weeks. Sorry. :( I give you this cute picture of a bunny I took earlier today as my apology. If I missed something cool or important or anything in the last couple of weeks, feel free to comment here. Otherwise, I'm going to try to read back, but, uhm. Not sure how that's going to go.

Anyone using/playing PMOG? Drop a comment with your username so I can add you as a friend.

(Yes, I know the "ohnoes, they're tracking your internet usage" argument. I don't use it all the time; I have a separate browser for it.)

Also, I recently made an account at Plurk. Seems like a Twitter/Pownce/Jaiku wannabe, except it uses this timeline thing. Anyone else have an account there?

[public] a hypothetical situation

Let's say you're walking down the hall at your office. It's a fairly long hall. The hall is empty. A co-werker (that you are familiar with) appears on the other end of the hall, walking toward you. You will, eventually, pass each other.

At what point do you make eye contact/say hi/smile/whatever it is you do? If you do it from far away, what do you do afterward? Keep eye contact? Look away? Continue talking?

[public] question for the masses

The James thought the music for the original Gauntlet video game is/is based off of a classical piece. However, he didn't know the name or composer of the piece. Does anyone know if this is so and/or what the name of the piece/composer is? I don't have enough time/patience to Googlefu this one today and it's sort of bugging me. Wikipedia told me nothing.

In return, I'll give you my favourite shiny guitar remix of the Gauntlet version. (mp3, sendspace)
