Um, hello.

So, I kind of miss posting here -- I like the things I can do over there (easier stat tracking, can manipulate the html a little easier) but I feel like a stalker reading all of your LJs without posting anything myself. With that in mind, I'm going to start posting here again, a little. What can I say? I miss you guys.

Does anyone have a copy of the Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar) or Mac OS 10.3 (Tiger) upgrades?

What about an OS X upgrade for Quark Xpress or Photoshop?

I'm running OS X, but when I use Photoshop and Quark I have to use classic mode. Yet OS X is no longer advanced enough to let you download from iTunes. Argh!

I don't want to have to choose between using Quark/Photoshop and buying songs from iTunes, so I'm looking to update all three. But I'm also poor and mad as hell that Apple shut their "old" operating systems out of iTunes.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!

Derby Liberation Front headed out the boonies (Fort Worden at Port Townsend, WA, to be precise) last weekend for our team photo shoot. The official photos have yet to be posted but my teammate Libby Raider took this one and e-mailed 'em to me today.

P.S. Please note that while that skirt LOOKS like a mini-skirt, it's really a knee-length skirt hiked up to my chest. If you look closely I think you might be able to see the zipper. My fishnets ALSO go all the way up. Sexy, right? Ha.

P.P.S. Please also note that my skates are in the MUD. Horrors. Even worse was that they were actually cleaner at the end of the weekend than they usually are at the end of practice, thanks to skating in that damn airplane hangar.

Pick your favorite! My girl needs a rollergirl name, stat. Alas, my favorite (Calamity Jen) didn't make the list as there is already a Calamity Pain on another league and nobody wants an angry rollergirl threatening copyright violation litigation!

What is THE best rollergirl name?

what's in a name?

VaVa VaVroom
Calamity Jen
Sofonda Pain
Janie Zsgottagun
Barb Wyre
Gerta Gasket
Sister Sledge
Twinkle Tows
Piper Down
Throttlin' Thelma
The Jenerator
Chop Suzie
Lucy Lugnuts
Suzie Stickshift

If any of those seem like good roller derby names for the newest (and my most favorite) SOCKiT WENCH, then head on over and go vote in her poll. You can pick more than one, if you must: my favorites are Calamity Jen and VaVa VaVroom. Ha.

Last night I worked until after midnight, and quite frankly, it sucked. Unfortunately, it was almost entirely the result of terrible planning on my part, compounded by required attendance at useless meetings. UGH. Oh, well. I suppose that, from a karmic standpoint, it was bound to happen -- I've been coming in rather late recently and the work has been piling up. Yuck.

Strangely, I work much better after hours. I don't know what it is, but when there are lots of people around I rarely get much done. I don't like people watching me work, and the way the work space is set up, my back is to the entire laboratory, so essentially, everyone is watching me work and it freaks me out. You'd think that I'd slack less if people were watching, right? Not so.

So what's the solution? I like being productive, and I like my job (mostly), so should I work when no one is around to maximize my productivity even if it means keeping odd hours? Or should I suck it up and learn to be productive when people are around? I think the latter would be better, but harder: if I haven't learned by now, will I ever? Who knows. Either way: right now, middle of the work day? SLACKTASTIC. Last night, middle of the effin' night? TOTAL WORKER BEE.

Weirdo.

My left eye has been twitching ALL. DAY. LONG. It makes me crazy (and probably makes me look crazy, too). Any ideas on how to make it go away?

Also, [info]muybienjen told me she was going to rat me out if I didn't spill the beans first, so here goes. I have also been posting at a new blog, chapstick and fishnets. You can read it at the site or you can snag the feed directly to your LJ by adding [info]chapstick_xml. I'm going to start making more and more of these entries private, or at least more so than they are now. Ok? Ok. :)

Putting it all out there.

[edit: I'm thinking of signing up for this and this -- do you think that the inherent contradiction might be too much? Ha.]

http://www.thinkprogress.org/katrina-timeline

Documents the Hurricane Katrina timeline, including the (lack of) response by the Bush administration. I'm sure most of you have seen the individual pieces already, but it's downright horrifying when taken as a whole.

A similar timeline can be found at http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/4/111017/0402

From DailyKos: Can FEMA Do Anything Right?

Depressing. Seriously. I had what can only be described as an emotional breakdown last night after spending the day reading about NOLA -- it's just too much. There aren't words, only a pervasive sense of failure.
