Surprise, surprise
I have a pair of socks to show you. (Sorry for the craptastic photo. I took the picture after the sun went down, you know, with work and all.) These are my ribbie koigu socks also dubbed "yack attack" (Why, well because the colors (particularly of the sock on the left) reminded me of yack. You know, puke.)

Pattern: Wendy's basic toe up sock pattern with 2x2 rib
Yarn: Koigu KPPPM, color P822127, 2 skeins
Needles: Addi Turbos size 1 (2.5mm)
Started: October 26, 2005
Finished: November 2, 2005

Notes: I used the figure 8 toe/cast-on instead of the wrap-n-turn short rows. Super easy to do and no fiddling with waste yarn or crochet hooks. I think this may become my toe-up sock cast-on of choice. I also knitted these with 2.5mm needles instead of 2.75mm which I used for my first pair of Koigu socks. Makes for a snugger fitting sock, which I like. The ribbing also helps them not to have that saggy feeling around the ankles. I also used the sewn cast-off (thanks for the tip, Mari). Say goodbye to re-doing the cast-off! *waves* The only thing I would change the next time I make Ribbie socks is to continue knitting the toe in stockinette for a few more rows before starting the ribbing.

Despite its less than pleasant nickname, I really like these socks. (So much that I'm still wearing them right now. And I haven't even woven the ends in or given them a bath yet.) They fit perfectly and I love the color.. however something weird as going on when I started my second sock. I nicknamed these the yack attack socks because of the first sock. As I was knitting the second sock, I noticed that this one wasn't as "yackie." In fact, it didn't remind me of puke at all.

Again, ignore the crappy photo. I hope you can see the difference in the colors despite the bad lighting. See how the left one (the second sock) lacks some of the darker patches of the first? Both skeins are the same color, but there's no dye lot written on there. Is this common for Koigu, not to put down the lot number? When I bought them, they both looked the same.

Bizarre.

By the way, it was Christmas time today. I got a swift (thanks to Joanns 50% off coupon), Jess Hutch's booklet (someone might be getting a squarey for Christmas), and yarn for my bf's fairway fair isles.

I have the same problem with the two skeins of Koigu I have. Same color, same dyelot but one has more dark patches. I guess it's part of their charm. ;)

Hmm--that is strange about the Koigu. I have some waiting in my stash, so I will watch for that when I knit it up! I do like the way that they socks came out though--they look comfy :)

So, another Socktoberfest pair done? girl, you are amazing!

Yay! Those are great socks. I think I need to try the figure 8 toe myself.. always good to learn new techniques, right? And I'm so happy the sewn cast off worked for you!

I need to get Jess Hutch's booklet... the toys look so cute!

Those are very cute - and I like that they don't match perfectly. Weird, though, because they do look the same in the hank. I recently got the Jess Hutch book too - Fantastic!

Your socks look great and no one will ever notice the slight variation in color. Way to go on a finished project.

I probably wouldn't have noticed the differences if you hadn't pointed them out. They are awesome anyway, though! I am chomping at the bit to try the fig 8 toe up type of sock, too. The cast off sounds interesting, as well.
