1:55AM - This Is Really Well Done.....

Found this homemade music video on Youtube tonight. Fans of Tori Amos probably know of the 1988 record/band called "Y Kant Tori Read". While no video was ever made for this track, this homemade one was incredibly done well.

5:23PM - I Hate These Feelings.....

Well, yesterday was one of those days where not one thing went right. After working all night and being tired the entire night, I go home to go to sleep, and couldn't fall asleep at all. Every possible thing that could have interrupted me did. Text messages. Phone calls. Upstairs tennents. Neighbors kids playing. Maggie barking. So I gave up trying to sleep at around 11am. Then I had the "lonely" part of the day, where I just started to evaluate my life and where it's heading, which I know, is something you should never do. So that brought me down. Then, I spend $20 on gas and 40 miles each way to go to school, only to find out that school was canceled for the day. That pissed me off. Then I come home and added something else to the list. (I'd rather not say.) That last one ended up being one of the final nails in the coffin, but now I didn't know if I was upset or mad. So I decided that I would go to the hospital to exercise a little of this depression off. But lo and behold, the fitness center wasn't in service and I couldn't get it. That was the final draw. I sped home, passing shoobies left and right, blasting aggrotech, and just went home.

Unfortunately, I went to bed at around 1am, and just now woke up. So now I am exhausted, on top of feeling depressed. And now I get to go to work on top of it all. Yay me.

11:22AM - WQGS571-AM.....

Well, today was the meeting with the Mayor of North Wildwood and some of his staff. Went pretty well, actually. On Tuesday morning I'm going to where the computer is that runs the station, and I'm gonna have the ropes shown to me on how the station operates and such. They are working on a way to have it setup so that all of the voice work can be done remotely with just a phone and key punches, so that will make it easy.

Turns out the Mayor started the project for a "relaxing change", and turned out to be too much for him to continue to maintain. Nice dude though. :)

So I'd say that I'll start the voicetracking for the station on that said Tuesday. Should be a different change of pace. (Plus, since the location of the station is just 17 blocks away, makes it easy to get to. :)

I'll keep ya posted. :)

9:10PM - Okay Guys.....

So, a few people IMed me, asking me if I even know HOW to dial a rotary phone, since I said in my last entry that I have one for my end table when I get it.

Had a dial phone all through the 80s. :-P

I did some looking on Youtube for fun, and came across these vintage films from mid 1927, showing people how to use "the new dial phones". If nothing else, many people more than likely haven't seen films from the 1920s, so dig the styles and such, and even see early animation. (And check out the look the grandfather gives the party-line abuser in part 2 of the last piece. :)

1:03AM - Just A Quickie.....

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm alive and well, and finally getting some stuff done at the new house. My "desk" is done, the shelves with my books and magazines is done, and I just got my CD shelves done. (I decided to put 2 sets of shelves up where I was originally going to put my LP collection, above my door. The CDs are lighter and I put L brackets on the beams, so it was a better deal I think.)

Over the weekend, I'm planning to get most of my game cartridges and stuff like that unpacked and put on shelves over my bed. That'll get rid of like 12 boxes in the middle of my room. LOL. So, we'll see what happens.

Off till Monday, working Monday during the day (7am to 7pm), then off Tuesday, then work Wednesday and Thursday my normal shift, then back Friday afternoon 3pm-11pm for overtime. (Yeah. Working 7pm-8am then back in at 3 that afternoon till 11pm. Should be interesting come Friday at 11pm. :)

Drop me a line to distract me. :)

PS: I can't wait to get my bedside table so I can make it my "retrotable" as it were. Gonna have a rotary phone (in which, I forgot how LOUD the ringers are on those things, but I haven't heard a phone so clear in YEARS), two tape answering machine (thanks again, Bob!), my old 70s phone book ($5 on eBay 3 years ago and never saw another one like it), and if I can ever get it, an old flip clock/radio. lol.

1:52PM - Possible New Radio Gig... At A TIS...?

So, the other night, out of boredom, I sent an email to the City of North Wildwood, which last month launched it's brand new Traveler Information Station (TIS). (You know, those are the stations where you see signs on highways and throughout towns telling you to tune to like 530AM for alerts and the like.) Just a simple email saying that I was available for voice work if they needed it. (And from what I've heard on it, they need it. lol)

I never actually expected a call back.

I have an appointment with the Mayor in about 3 weeks, because he said he'd like to take me up on my offer. So, it'll definitely be something completely different.

So, could WQGS571 AM 1640 be next? lol

12:31AM - On A Light Note.....

It's Memorial Day weekend in a resort town. (North Wildwood is a lot more busy during the summer, as I'm finding out first hand.)

At the new place, we have access to a driveway, but can only use 1 space, and we have to share it with the other 3 tenants when they are here. (One is a year round, the other two are summer only.) Because of my schedule, I had already decided that I was going to just park in the street because I don't want to be waken up at noon to move my car so the person behind me can get out if they need to.

Tonight, I realized: I have no fucking idea on how to parallel park. I'm gonna have to practice that. The first time, it took me about 6 times to get in the space, the second time I ended up being a little far out in the street, and the third time (a few moments ago in the dark), I said, "fuck it", and parked at an end space at the end of the street.

I need to learn how to parallel park.

1:56AM - Just A Heads Up.....

I will not have internet access at home between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. Comcast is disconnecting the internet at the old house Friday, and will be reconnecting it at the new house on Sunday.

Seems to be the beginning of the end, and the start of the new beginning. My game wall is empty, all that I really have left at the old place is the computer, bed and dresser. Other than that, that's it...

So, this is my final post from Erma. See ya in North Wildwood.

3:16PM - Question About Weight And Stability.....

And no, I'm not talking on myself. :-P

One of the things that I thought was awesome about the new place, is that I have a 13" clearance from the top of my doorways to the ceiling. The first thing that I thought was, "That would be the perfect area to store my LPs*", which are 12" all around. I started packing my records* in boxes, and then just now moved them to my car. However before I put the last box of albums* in the car, I thought to myself that they were pretty heavy. I decided to weigh one of the boxes.

One box of records* weighs 60 pounds, and I have 2 full boxes, and one box is 3/4 full. That is a total weight of 160 pounds of grooved wax*.

Now based on how the doorways are in the house, and because the clearance is 13", I thought that the only way that I could mount a shelf up there would be to use an L bracket upwards, where the length of the L is flat on top (and thus behind the albums), and the bottom would support the shelf.

Even if I mount such L brackets on the studs of the walls, and put additional L brackets downward on areas that I can put them downward (where I could place a total of 4 of them downward, plus the ones upward on the studs), do you think that they would support the weight of the albums*?

Also, would I be right in assuming that using two shelves next to each other would give better support, opposed to using one long shelf, since the shelves would be holding less weight?

Even though I've been collecting vinyl* since I was a kid, I never had much of a chance to put them on display, or better yet, have them be easier accessible for when I want to play them. I was looking forward to using that space for the records* since it would be a perfect fit, but I don't want them to crash down in the middle of the night either. Has anyone out there ever done anything similar with there records*? (And please, no "rip them to iPod" or "sell them for CD copies" suggestions. I love my 12"ers*. :)

* Damn... LP, record, album, grooved wax, vinyl, 12". Think a CD can be called that much? LOL...

1:07PM - Tired, Tired, Tired....!

I SO can't wait for this move to be over with. Between work, school and moving, I'm really getting beat up. My body can't take much more of this. lol. Last night was a very relaxing one. Went to the boyz house for Raw, had an incredible dinner (thanks again, Ramon), and got to test drive the new GTA4. Incredible looking, and just as good as the previous games. (Just wish the driving controls were a little better, but that'll take some getting used to.) If I ever get a 360, I'll definitely pick that one up.

Verizon came today to switch the phones to the new place. Dad's still mad that we have to have new phone numbers. (Dad's had the same phone number for 28 years; I've had the same number for about 12 years, so it will be a change, indeed.) Fortunately, all the jacks work in the new place, except one, but there were 2 jacks in that room anyways, so it doesn't matter. Of course, the Verizon guy saw dad and I using cell phones, and asked if we wanted to switch to Verizon Wireless, which I said no cause I'm actually happy with Nextel. His response? "I don't blame you", and then he whipped out his personal cell phone, which ironically was also a Nextel. LOL. (Yeah, it would be nice to have only 1 bill for the two phones, but almost everyone I know, except about 4 people {sorry boyz}, have Sprint or Nextel, so it ends up using less minutes since calls to the same provider are free for us.)

One thing I learned about my new bedroom, is that out of the 3 outlets that I have in my bedroom, one of them is really old... Went to plug in my fax machine to test my new number out, and it wouldn't plug in. (My fax is a triple prong; the outlet is a double prong.) Weird, because the other 2 outlet sets are "normal". So, I'll have to pick up one of those double to triple prong adapters if I wanna get anything done. LOL)

Tonight, I go to the post office to drop off the change of address forms. Inside the packet of address forms, I found a 10% off card for Lowes, and a 10% off card for Best Buy. And we have 2 sets of them, since there's two of us here. Bonus! Also tonight, a makeup test in respiratory (which I am really scared of), final lecture before my final next week, and moving more stuff over. And does anyone want to tell me why, with all of the moving I'm doing, my car, which should be totally empty now, is full of shit? I should clean that out today before I go to school.

Tomorrow, DirecTV comes to the house. Dad will be very happy, indeed. Still haven't made my appointment to move my internet service over. I should do that tonight as well.

9:20AM - Damn, Yo.....

Just found out today that I won't be getting the IRS "free dough" until paper checks are mailed, because I had the cost of filing the refund taken out of my refund. (Since the IRS deposited the refund into another account, which then paid me.)

So now I have to wait until around May 30 to get the check... Meanwhile, I think I better put in for the change of address today, since I'll be gone from here by May 30...

UGH!

6:22AM - Wanted: Pelican System Selector Pro PL-960 (x3).....

Part of moving to a new place is that you tend to need to purchase new things to accommodate the new location of things. With my current videogame setup, I have my systems spread over 2 television sets, with various video selector switches on each TV. This was done because my videogame wall was too short to hold all of the systems that I've collected over time.

At the new place, I have one long wall that will be able to handle all of the systems I have to hook up to the TV, but it will mean that I need to upgrade my video selector switches to handle more systems. (A/V speaking, I currently have 3 switchboxes with 5 inputs for each; I'm going to need more inputs.)

The only switchbox style that I have found that I will be able to use is the Pelican System Selector Pro PL-960. (These are the ones that can handle 8 inputs each.) Kinda funny, because I was looking at the "upgraded 2.0" version of this same selector switch (thought the LCD display was cool), but it only has 6 inputs... Talk about a step back! A picture of what I'm looking for is below:

I thought that before I go out and look for these in a store or on eBay (which eBay already has one that I'm looking at), I thought I'd see if anyone in my friends list has one that they were looking to get rid of. (Maybe you're downsizing or just upgraded to HD and need an HD selector.) If you have one of these you're looking to sell, drop me a line.

Thanks everyone!

8:20AM - I Am So Tired....

...of packing!

I've brought over so much stuff to the new place over the last few nights, and everytime I come back "home" I keep looking around, and feeling like I haven't even made a dent. (Of course, what I should do is take my computer over there so I can't use it and waste time, but I go crazy without thy interwebs. Fuck, I call Comcast when there is an outage for 10 minutes!)

Today's plan is to move more stuff out of my closets. Computers that I can't hook up due to space (which I refuse to put in storage, because "been there, done that, got ruined"), DVDs and VHS tapes, my records, and my "secondary computers" that I actually tinker with (the Apple II, the Performa and the Amiga.)

On an interesting note, I'm gonna have a decent amount of money to help set up the new place. May is a "triple pay month", where we get three checks in a month. (It happens twice a year, usually in May/June and again in November/December.) It doesn't give you a full check for yourself, but it lets you alter bills around a little each check. The first check, I will have about $400 to use for the place. Also, I'm scheduled to have the "Bush" check direct deposited on the 2nd. Not sure if it's gonna be $300 or $600, but either will be a help. Not to mention, the other night I went to check my credit card balance. (I thought I had maybe $20 available, which would be gas if I needed it at the last minute.) Turns out I had a credit limit increase of $800. (Which will be used only as a last resort, which I don't think I'm going to need to touch it if all goes to plan.)

It's weird. I really don't end up with much money for myself anymore, but on a month where I truly could use extra funds, it picked the perfect one. Between new shelves, a new desk (this one won't survive a move because it's compressed wood and I've had it for almost 15 years), and the fact that I'll need a window air conditioner at the new place (we are used to central air), it's a great thing.

Also today, I need to call Verizon, Comcast and DirecTV to make appointments to have the phone, interwebs and TV service moved to the new place. On the topic of TV, dad's scaring me. Dad stayed at the new place last night, and I saw slips from Walmart for LCD TVs. He had mentioned that getting one would be good for the one room where there isn't much physical space for a TV. (He's gonna have quite a shock I think. Remember, he's a full frame/pan and scan type of person and still doesn't grasp the concept of the differences. Maybe when he gets one, I can compare with DVDs. Maybe then he'll realize why I always preferred widescreen movies, even in my pre-DVD days.)

Still fighting with him over the fireplace. I hope he didn't fucking paint it when I left him alone last night. :)

On an unrelated note, I found my next remix for when I find the time. I heard a song last week for the first time, called "Body Crash". It incorporates parts of the song "Let's All Chant". Specifically, the "My Body..." parts. I immediately associated it with the photo shoot scene in "The Eyes Of Laura Mars", (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SdZNt46SkMQ), so I thought, what a great potential for mixing them together somehow. (Thinking like this keeps me sane.) The track can be heard on my MySpace page.

Anyways, I need to get off this thing for a little bit and do some more moving. I'll be back later tonight.

11:25PM - Opinion Time.....

Okay, I now know that we both like the new apartment, and I know that dad and I are going to be okay with the move, because we are arguing about what should be done with rooms...

Dad wants to paint the fireplace bricks white. I think it would take the charm out of it. (That, and I hate that he's already wanting to paint everything white, especially with the white walls and the white sofa.)

Opinions?

11:04PM - Lyric Time.....

The chorus is fitting right now, dammit...

Tori Amos - "China"

China, all the way to New York.
I can feel the distance getting close.
You're right next to me, but I need an airplane.
I can feel the distance as you breathe.

Sometimes, I think you want me to touch you.
How can I when you build the Great Wall around you?
In your eyes I saw a future together.
But you just look away in the distance.

China decorates our table.
Funny how the cracks don't seem to show.
Pour the wine dear; You say we'll take a holiday.
But we never can agree on where to go.

Sometimes, I think you want me to touch you.
How can I when you build the Great Wall around you?
In your eyes I saw a future together.
But you just look away in the distance.

China, all the way to New York.
Maybe you got lost in Mexico.
You're right next to me; I think that you can hear me.
Funny how the distance learns to grow.

Sometimes, I think you want me to touch you.
How can I when you build the Great Wall around you?
In your eyes I saw a future together.
But you just look away in the distance.

I can feel the distance;
I can feel the distance;
I can feel the distance getting close.

2:14PM - Quick One Before A Nap.....

Just got home from Delaware about 2 hours ago, and really need a nap before work.

Getting together with David again was just awesome. He totally hasn't changed a bit in personality, which was great because he was always had a fantastic one. I just wish I wasn't so nervous around him the whole night. (It had been so long since I had seen him, I was afraid of being judged, which I know sounds ridiculous...)

I'm wondering if I should have made a move on him. Goddess knows I really wanted to, but couldn't...

He's still got those powerful blue eyes...

Regardless, it was a fun time, we're looking forward to getting together again soon.

Now, to nap.

3:06PM - It Finally Hit Dad That It's Happening.....

But it took reading the paper for him to realize that the move is going to really happen.

Our house is listed in the local paper as going up for Sheriff's Sale on May 14th.

Dad's been dilly-dallying in getting stuff moved to the new place. Don't know why, since he was telling me that I should be moving my stuff, which I have been. But now he realizes that this isn't a dream or a joke. (And he's pissed because his name is in print... Well, duh!)

11:55AM - Athletic Coworkers Always Told Me.....

...That once I get used to exercising, it's a great way to relieve stress or anger.

I found that out this morning. Woke up, and just had a rage of anger. Just thinking about people that have pissed me off or just made me mad, or upset. Previously when I got those feelings, I would either light up or eat like a pig. This time though, I decided to go to the fitness center at work and see if I would feel better.

All it took was 30 minutes on the treadmill at an intense speed and slight incline, with aggrotech being blasted on the iPod, and I felt better.

Who'd ever have thought that?

In other news, I'm waiting for Thursday to come. I'm gonna be meeting up with an old friend, David. We first met way back when I was 16 and he was 15, at all things, at a Pflag meeting in Rehoboth Beach. We stayed in touch for about a year, but then he moved away for a while. (He's really been a traveler. He's lived in London, Denmark, Iceland, and all over the east coast.) Should prove to be a fun time.

Anyways, off to study a little. :)

1:55PM - Starting To Move My Stuff.....

You know you are a total geek when you start packing and moving things into a new place, and the first 8 boxes you pack up are labeled either "Video Games" or "Video Game Accessories". Thing is, I am only about half done with those, and they don't include the systems that go with them. The system setup is going to be last to be moved, since I have to disconnect everything and pack them carefully. (And people tease me for keeping most of the original boxes that these systems came in.)

Looking around, my room already looks like it has a crapload more space to it.

One benefit I found out about the new place, is that my ceiling is a good 8 inches higher than what I have now, which is gonna give me a lot more shelf space. (Not to mention that above the doorways, I have 13 inches... The perfect place for my record collection, so I can get them out of the closet and actually play them from time to time.)

Incidentally, I still have no clue what I'm gonna do with the closet. It's a lot smaller than what I have now. (I turned my existing closet into a "media room" with all of my videotapes, DVDs and the like... If I arrange it nicely, it may work out the same at the new place.)

(And no, my clothes are not all over the place. They are in a dresser. I haven't used a hanger in over 10 years. :)

Someone is coming to look at the house for the possibility to purchase today, which is when I'm gonna physically move the packed car to the new place. This is more than likely the last chance to have a buyer before it's taken from us on the 1st. While it would be a great ending to all of this, I'm not holding my breathe. And neither dad nor myself give a fuck anymore. :)
