I'm sorta depressed. My all-time favorite favorite band from the 90's, Letters to Cleo, is playing a one-time reunion show at The Roxy in LA. Tickets are super cheap (only $19.50!) but I can't go. I'm seeing Madonna at the MGM Grand in Vegas the same night. Majority of the nation would say "OMG YOU HAVE TIX TO MADONNA?!?", but inside I'm sad I'll miss Letters to Cleo.

I love the phrase "Like throwing a hot dog down a hallway" cause it gives me a very silly visual image.

Dear Eve Myles,

You are a fantastic and beautiful actress and I would totally switch sides for you. It must be my Welsh bloodline that forces these thoughts. Keep up the good work.

Defying Gravity Sep. 24th, 2008 @ 01:03 pm
Seeing "Wicked" last night for the second time had a lesser impact than before. Last night was a deluded, watery version of what I experience some three years ago. It just solidifies my belief that there's no good theater in LA. Like, none. Ooooh, except at the Ahmanson Theatre downtown.

One thing that last night made me feel is my love of the story in "Wicked". The book vs. the musical is like oil and water. They are similar but completely opposite too. The book is very dark, moody and sexy. It deals heavily with racial undertones and really makes you understand every motivation the Wicked Witch of the West has in "The Wonder Wizard of Oz". Gregory Maguire is a genius in that respect. He took a classic tale and analyzed the antagonist beautifully.

The musical uses many of the moments from the book and sets it in crazy costumes, stunning sets and tear jerking musical numbers. Steven Schwartz is a hack, but a lovable hack. Pippin anyone? When I saw "Wicked" the first time, it was in NYC with many of the original cast members (Idina Menzel, Michelle Federer, Christopher Fitzgerald, etc.) and I won the Wicked Lottery which placed me front row, center in an overwhelming position underneath the actors. There was no where to run, so I was sucked into each moment and couldn't move after the Act I finale "Defying Gravity". I remember saying that the show was the best piece of live performance I had ever seen. After last night, I resign that statement cause it wasn't incredible by any means. A good effort, I'd say.

Needless to say in both realms, a woman against all odds, fighting for what she believes is right is a remarkable thing to witness and I still get emotional during "Defying Gravity". Go against the flow. Fly. Follow your dreams and act on what you believe in.

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap

It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you can't pull me down...

I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But 'till I try, I'll never know
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love - I guess I have lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost

I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down...

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky
As someone told me lately -
Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly
And if I'm flying solo
At least I'm flying free
To those who'd ground me
Take a message back from me -

Tell them how I
Am defying gravity!
I'm flying high
Defying gravity!
And soon I'll match them in renown
And nobody in all of Oz
No wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!

Deliciously Dexter Sep. 18th, 2008 @ 06:42 pm

Just met Michael C. Hall outside on the lot. I didn't recognize him from a distance as I was chatting with a fellow co-worker. I just thought, "oooh cute guy walkin this way". He was walking across the lot all by himself and here I was shoving pizza in my mouth being a fattie. Once i realized it was him I tossed my slice away, and trotted up to him to say congrats on the success of Dexter and how Six Feet Under was my all time favorite show. He was very sweet.

Yay!

Finale Sep. 14th, 2008 @ 06:30 pm
Okay, the Buffy Season 5 finale was incredible. It was epic. And I can't believe it was aired on television. I mean, WHERE IS THE BUFFY MOVIE? And why did it take me so long to finally watch this show? Seriously! If they accomplished such an amazing look and feel for just television, I don't know if I could emotionally handle a movie screen with that content.

Now I'm not the biggest fan of season 5. Where I dip into spoiler-esque moments and musings of the 5th installment )

And the winner is... Sep. 14th, 2008 @ 04:30 pm
Not "Heroes"! Oh well. I'm sure my boss is a little crest-fallen, but I'm still extremely proud of our work in S2 and just WAIT until you see the astounding work done in S3. Congrats to Madmen on all their achievements!

please take my sunshine away Sep. 12th, 2008 @ 03:44 pm
Today is a beautiful overcast day. The temp is nice and cool. It's a wonderful break from the non-stop sunshine. Sometimes you just want to be lazy and not feel a sense of guilt from that sun. That sun that reminds you "you could be doing something productive right now".

Last night I attended the SDSA Emmy Nomination Party. It was a great sense of community and support from all the Set Decorators and Production Designers. I was surrounded by peers and actually knew a lot of people for being still relatively new to the industry. My boss, Ron Franco, said something really sweet about me during his speech. I felt/feel very appreciated.

Tomorrow is the Creative Art Emmys and I'm crossing my fingers we win. I won't be attending this year which is honestly really okay with me.

Enjoy your weekend bitches!

Watch this!

an audience? Sep. 3rd, 2008 @ 07:07 pm
It has come to my attention that my blog is being read by my LA friends. This is always amusing to me. I realize that I put my journal out in the public, but nothing amused me more than in college when I would go out with friends and started telling stories of my day and they'd stop me mid-sentence stating, "Yeah I know. I read it in your blog earlier today." HAHA!

Rachel is back from Amsterdam. She was gone all summer staying in a romantic house boat with her European sweetheart and interning at some fashion agency. Rachel lives like the best life on the planet and I'm selfishly happy that she's back in smoggy LA to entertain me. We went to Minnesota Bowling last night and I ended the night at MJ's getting sloppy. Charley was in China for the Olympics, then flew to Minnesota for a wedding and is now finally back in LA, so we celebrated with drinks at "Rim Job". Classy sounding night, huh? I encountered one of the actors (now producer) of the "Another Gay Movie" and "Another Gay Sequel" last night. I had met him before and he was kind enough to humor me and say he remembered! Regardless, I got his biz card and I hope to collaborate sometime in the future. If you've seen the films, they master the gay spoof. I loved Gay Sequel. See it in theaters now!!

My newest music love is a little group called MSTRKRFT (aka Master Kraft). Their single "Easy Love" is so fun and the music video is hilarious!

Lots of good news is happening in the world of Lucky Legendary! I have a meeting with Ken tonight to discuss this offer a production company gave us to produce our videos. Cross your fingers.

Also, the latest Heroes Season 3 promo!

Listen Up Sep. 2nd, 2008 @ 09:53 am
Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Soundtrack is now available on iTunes!!

It gives me nerd glee to see that it's #2 on the top album downloads of iTunes. I love all you super villain musical loving freaks.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day Weekend. I did all sorts of lazy and fun stuff and ate waaaay too much. I saw Hamlet 2, which was amazing. And a friend of mine forced me through Dark Knight for a second time. Yes forced. I don't really like the film all that much.

But Hamlet 2!

Now that's class.

Lastly I have a funny/odd story to share. Sunday morning my friend and I decide to grab some breakfast and stumble upon a little restaurant near my apartment. It's kinda tucked into this mini-mall. Anyway, we walk in and all the lights are off. They were relying on only sunlight to light their whole restaurant. Strange. Now their menu was a treat to read. We read aloud such delicious sounding dishes like Tongue Sandwich (no half orders)...What am I Chopped Liver, with a turkey brisket and Russian dressing?! CHEESE PLATE A/S. However, I was intrigued by the eggs benedict, made with homemade hollandaise sauce with real o.j....now, I've never heard of hollandaise being made with orange juice, but maybe oj stood for something else. When my plate arrived they had placed black olives on top of those fleshy mounds to make them look like a perfect set of breasts. We were in such a silly mood that we both lost it when the waiter set down my plate hahaha! We were both drinking coffee, so the bus boy walks over and says "Can I fill your cup?" to me, sure ok. He turns to my friend and says "What about you? Can I top you off or are you all good?". WHO SAYS THAT?! Up until this point we were one of maybe three tables in the restaurant, but shortly after every table was filled with the strangest array of people. Jason Lee ("My Name is Earl"), a plastic surgery-gone-terribly-wrong woman, two sets of identical twins and a Friar! We had to get out of there. I literally felt like I was in a sit com.
