It's been a long time, eh, flist? Well, a couple of weeks at least.

I'm off to New York on Thursday with Cousin. And after 4 days of shopping, site seeing, Broadway and Yankees games, on Monday we're both flying down to San Francisco to meet masoeur. There will be much shopping (Cousin), alcohol (me), and random historical monument viewing (masoeur).

Whee.

I had to pack tonight as it's my mother's 50th birthday tomorrow and her and my father are going out, so I couldn't do it then. And what I mean when I say "I had to pack" was "my father had to pack". My version of packing a suitcase is shoving it all in and if it doesn't fit, sit on it until it does.

Why do people in Buffy have sex with their clothes on? And, for that matter, who would go into a battle with vampires and the ultimate evil wearing a freaking skirt? Surely trousers are more comfortable when stabbing things?

Today is shaping up to be a good day. My parents have gone down to London for the night, so I have the house to myself. I have a job and have just bought some new shoes! And I just found half a tub of Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough in the freezer.

So, after almost 2 years of being out of work and a £1500 holiday to finance, I have finally got a job.

I just don't know if I am happy or not. :|

I honestly thought it was my dog running down the stairs. Then, after I ran up the stairs and still didn't make as much noise, I thought that perhaps it was the radiator behind the sofa going odd. It wasnt until this morning whilst watching the news that I realised that the wall behind me had, in fact, been shaking due to the earthquake. We're close to the epicentre, so we're lucky there was no damage to the house. A couple near us have had chimney's shaken loose, etc.

Scared the bloody shit out of me, though.

And so, on this day, the 50th anniversary of the Busby Babes Air Crash, my mother tells me I am related to Bobby (and Jackie) Charlton.

Me: "That's Bobby Charlton, right?"
Mum: "Yes, he's your Granddad's cousin."
Me: "..."
Mum: "You met him at a family funeral once, when you were little. And Jackie."

Wth? First Diane Fossey and now the Charlton Brothers? Where's the royal ancestors with all the expensive jewels?

Edit: Haha! Terrible typo. For a moment there, Bobby Charlton was rechristened "Booby Charlton". Oops.

JKR has just been awarded the Outstanding Achievement in the Arts Award from the Southbank Show.

Not much more to say about that, other than... blurghy.

Btw, I saw Sweeny Todd yesterday at the cinema. Fantastic. Go and see it, it's great fun. And Johnny Depp was brilliant.

I have just returned from seeing Aladdin at the Hippodrome, with JOHN BARROWMAN as the title character.

T'was wonderful! He was fantastic, the jokes were hysterical and the magical 3D genie was mind bafflingly awesome. I am still hyper. XD

Was just doing some t-shirt shopping. Saw this. Died from laughter. Edit: Buys for Sectus09.

Somedays, today obviously being one of them, Windows makes me not mad, but very, very aware that the world is desperately unhappy and only idiots are prolonging its continued existance.

What the fuck am I going on about? My laptop, of course.

Every since buying it just before Sectus last year, I've been aware that Vista is a little... tempermental. Christ, even the guy in PC World told me that. However, the laptop was pretty, they didn't do an XP version, and I wanted the best.

Which was my undoing.

Occasionally, if you open too many pages in IE7, some of them won't load. Sometimes the right-click menu refuses to load and authorised pop-up's wont pop-up, which freezes the page completely. And, once in a while, it shuts itself down without warning.

Today. Today was the kicker, though.

All of the above happened almost simultaneously. It was like an explosion. Boom. Ka-pow. Die.

I start it up again, and before even getting to the log in screen, it starts the shut down process. Then it starts to install all the updates, seven of them. Numbers two to seven go like wildfire. Number one takes half an hour. An entire episode of Scrubs was spent with my eyes flicking back and forth from the tv to the laptop. I swear my eyes were almost ready to escape from their socket by the end.

Eventually, they all download and it shuts down. Hit power, give it a few seconds (about 300, Vista is slow at starting up and shutting down), and then "Configuring Updates" pops up. Okay, I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is the random, almost defiant way it then goes "Shut Down in progress". Why> Why would you do that?!?! Is twice in the space of one hour not enough for you?? Gah.

Hit power. Power on. Log in screen. Success at last? No. Of course not. That would just be too easy. Instead, I tap in my password - which is most definantly correct - and get an error message I swear Microsoft let their cleaner write:

"System unable to identify log in protocol. Sorry, but unable to log yuo in at this time".

"Yuo" is not just my crap typing. It was actually in a Windows error message!!!.

Now, I have one of three theories: 1- It's a genuine error; 2- Someone at Microsoft is having a big laugh at my fucking expense; or, 3- I have a virus.

I hope to god it's the latter.

My mum is currently crying her eyes out in the kitchen. Her insurance company has called and told her that the car she's had for 7-8 years is a write-off, after being involved in an accident on Christmas Eve.

It's not like they can't afford a brand new car - my dad has been offering her an Aston Martin that she's always liked. It's just that her old car "meant so much" to her apparently.

You know, somedays I wonder if I'm living in an asylum.
