Care to check out the definition of fear?
At least, the definition of what moderates, agnostics, and well... anyone that's not a radical Christian should fear? Do a google search on "Dominionist" and read up a bit. Then understand that these are the people behind many of our current political movements. These are the people who want to usurp our Democratic way of life and make America a Theocracy. Their Theocracy. These are the people who want to return old testament law to the world here and now. Don't know why that should scare you? Read some of the laws in the old testament. Stoning your children for disobedience is in there. Death sentences for anything from homosexuality to apostacy.
Want to live in that world? Educate yourself. Fight.
What is the definition of fear? To me, that definition is watching the new Fascism wearing Christian clothing marching across my nation, spreading like a wildfire unchecked and swallowing all in its path.

How bout that Dobson guy, huh? Pretty terrifying. The worst thing is, I think I've heard him on the radio and remembered thinking that he was a compelling speaker. *sigh*
And in my book, that makes me ok.
outrage. Thank you for that fine and accurate summary
of what has gone "horribly wrong" with the "American
Experiment".

Fear may underlie some phenomena of behavior modification, although these phenomena can be explained without adducing fear as a factor in them. Furthermore, application of aversive stimuli is also often ineffective in producing change in the behaviour intended to be changed. Fearing objects or contexts can be learned; in animals this is being studied as fear conditioning, which depends on the emotional circuitry of the brain.
Fear inside a person has different degrees and varies from one person to another (see also phobia). If not properly handled, fear can lead to social problems. People who experience intense fear have been known to commit irrational and/or dangerous acts.
Some philosophers have considered fear to be a useless emotion with uniformly bad consequences; other thinkers note the usefulness of fear as a warning of bad situations."
I googled Dominionism, and this was what Wikipedia had to say on the subject. It's too large to cut and paste here, so I will sum up:
The broad concept, to paraphrase from Wiki, is succinctly summed up in the Genesis 1:26 verse of the Bible which reads: "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'" NIV
The problem with fighting these people is that they firmly believe it is their God-given right to rule, but also to take over all forms of secular government and replace them with a system of laws based of Mosaic Law. Every single one of these tuckfards believes this, and are using any and all means to bring it about...even going so far as to blow up abortion clinics and the like. It's not hard to imagine what means these people will do to achieve the ends.
What I am seeing more and more is these people not getting laughed out of town like the waterheads that they are for believing this tripe. And that scares me because it's an indication of acceptance of this particular branch of hatred. I think that if there is a huge backlash, then those that are spouting this nonsense will engage in a systematic overthrow of the government whether by law or by gun.
Don't believe it can happen? Consider the scenario raised in both The Handmaids Tale and The Postman. Both are post-apocalyptic, with the former using a fertility virus and the other being the aftermath of a second Civil War.
The similarities are noticeable in that they are both run by a more extreme version of Dominionism. The Nation of Gilead is a theocracy with laws that are based on Mosaic law. This is what Atwood was warning us all about when she wrote it because she saw the writing on the wall...and even though there was a movie, still no one got the underlying message in that a theocracy is A BAD THING!
The Holmist Militia in The Postman is a slightly different view. It is still Dominionist at it's core but it has more ties to the Christian Identity movement than anything else. (Google it.) They believe that the strong have dominion over the weak and therefore the strong and Pure have dominion over all. Beagle never speculated as to HOW the Second Civil War happened or what caused it, but the main impetus was indicated by a charismatic, previously unknown individual who mobilized large numbers of armed men to overtake and destroy the American government.
The crux of the biscuit is this: If you read the words of the people who are spouting this crap, educate yourselves. Arm yourselves with knowledge of what they bring to the table and do NOT hesitate to call them on their bullshit.
Fight with the weapons you have, whether its' your mouth, your writing or your brain (or all of the above.) I intend to do so in every way I can, both subtle and overt.

Don't believe for one moment that they will hesitate to put to death or imprison anyone who doesn't believe as they do. The fact that they consider the US form of government to be some sort of heresy of the first order is scary enough by itself. The fact that they are willing to work behind the scenes and do any means to achieve the ends is even scarier.
Consider this: Pat Robertson has said many times that a systematic overthrow is not only necessary but required should the government go against their wishes. And that's what makes him dangerous, because he fully understands what the government is all about and is willing to twist words to make his point.
There was a time when I used to watch the 700 club to get a feel for what the Dark Side was thinking. It wasn't too long before I became sickened by what I saw and changed the channel lest I break my TV. Heh.

Well, it adds up to a lot. When you can show through scripture that this philosophy runs counter to the teachings of Christ you can prevent the spread of it. But that also means that Christians who see Dominionism as a heresy have to be diligent in pointing this out and it has to be done with love. We can't be judgemental in doing this but we also must be firm in what the scriptures say.
For instance, while the Great Commission says to go unto the world and teach all nations Jesus also told his disciples to just leave the places where the message wasn't accepted. This in and of itself shows that Dominionism is counter to the entire teachings of Christ and can only be a philosophy established by taking scripture out of context.
