*** For the past week I've had a strange sort of headcold that goes to my throat, then my ears, nose, back to the throat again. Today it's in my ears and listening to music is very difficult, sadly. A shame, because I found a decent new music podcast: Connexion Bizarre. It's a couple of hours of everything industrial/ebm/electro/etc, poppy stuff, hard and noisy stuff. Superb!
*** Tell me this isn't true: The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. When I heard about this I thought it was some sort of joke, but it appears to be real. The first one is now shown every Christmas here by law. Thankfully it was beaten to the US Box-office number 1 spot by the Borat film which was showing on a quarter of the screens The Santa Clause 3 was.
*** Get well soon, noodleslutbunny.
*** Picked up a copy of the PC version of GTA III for a couple of quid off Amazon Marketplace. It is so much more playable on the PC, sin't it? No more confusing and fiddly buton combos, it's just much more natural. So far this weekend I've just been picking up hidden packages and doing the taxi and firetrcuk things. Okay, it's not everyon's cup of tea, but there's just something nice about cruising around Liberty City with that one radio station that just plays tracks from Scarface on.

| The Tune |
[27 Oct 2006|01:52am] |
Whilst I was on my illustration degree I saw an animated film that just blew me away. It mas a cold Sunday morning at about 1.30am, my flatmate said "you might want to watch this" - and I'm glad I did!
It was called The Tune by cartoonist and animator Bill Plympton
( images in here )
It probably doesn't look much to you in these stills, but basically everything morphs, heads get twisted, there's lots of visual humour. Some of the songs are actually pretty good. Sorry, I could go on and on, but you'd just have to see it.
Basically by the end of the first viewing I was literally weeping because it was so my artstyle. I loved the charicatures, the twisted visuals, the way it flowed.
Alright I'll stop now. If you get the chance to, do see it.

The 1K Project - 1,000 Cars In Trackmania
Really impressive video put together by some nutter who played the same self-built track in the PC racing game Trackmania 1,000 times and merged all the replays together to create this beautiful piece of work. Even if you hate computer games you should watch this as it's stunning.

[23 Aug 2006|04:52pm] |
Well, I just got back from a lovely few days with the adorable noodleslutbunny. Apart from a nice trip out to the hospital (don't worry, it was a planned visit), we generally stopped in and watched a ton of films including V For Vendetta ("loved it") and Aeon Flux ("that was pants, wasn't it?"). Never a boring moment! Many thanks, Suze, for having me up there. I really enjoyed myself, and I hope you did too *hug*
Anyway, got back to Gloucester and ended up stood in driving rain for almost 20 minutes waiting for the bus - I was soaked, obviously. Got home to find my room had been "tidied up" ie everything stacked up in the corner, heavy boxes on top of my effing records! I went mad at my mum, "don't touch my stuff! I don't care how higgledy-piggledy it looks!" - argh!
And if my twin has a hand in it he'll get my hand too.
Generally then, got home from superb few days with a good friend only to have my mood darkened. Bollocks.

| Game-related Chatter |
[06 Aug 2006|10:31pm] |
|
Is it me or is using guns in Grand Theft Auto III really hard? I can't get any further in the game because when I have to shoot someone the control just goes to pot and I end up aimlessly shotting stuff before getting 'wasted'. It's frustrating because the game is actually quite enjoyable and this is an integral part of the game. Please help!

There you go, Top Of The Pops is no more.
I watched the last ever episode last night, just for the hell of it. I haven't watched the show properly since the early 90s, and my main memories of the show were from the 80s, so it was interesting to see the likes of Janice Long presenting.
Anyway, the show was a mix of old clips, I'm guessing designed to show the show's high points. But they managed to pick all the most boring performances.
The show ended with Sir Jimmy Saville, in gold tracksuit, turning the lights off. If anyone had to do that it should be him.
As I've said before it's good riddance to a show that passed it's use-by date 10 years ago.

| FilmFourFree |
[24 Jul 2006|12:23pm] |
Well, FilmFour is now on free-to-air TV! Excellent news, as long as they show a ton of decent films without the ads like they used to.
Anyway, they had some huge list show on Channel 4 to promote it - 50 Films To See Before You Die - an entertaining enough show, although once again it was choc-full of spoilers, and they didn't warn the viewer. I'm still angry after they ruined the end of Shallow Grave for me on another show.
Here's the list of films, with the ones I've seen in bold:
Aguirre: The Wrath of God Alien All About Eve The Apartment Apocalypse Now Badlands Black Narcissus Boyz 'N The Hood Brazil The Breakfast Club Cabaret Chinatown City Of God Come & See Dawn Of The Dead Donnie Darko Erin Brockovich Fanny & Alexander Fight Club Heavenly Creatures Hero The Ipcress File The King Of Comedy The Ladykillers Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India Lost In Translation Manhattan Manhunter Mulholland Drive A Night At The Opera North by Northwest Pink Flamingos The Player Princess Mononoke Pulp Fiction Raising Arizona The Royal Tenenbaums Scarface The Searchers Secrets & Lies Sexy Beast The Shawshank Redemption Terminator II: Judgement Day This Sporting Life Three Colours Trilogy Touch Of Evil Trainspotting 2001: A Space Odyssey Walkabout
Looks like I have a few to watch before I go, some I'm looking forward to more than others.

Goodbye, Top of the Pops - used to watch you in the 80s, but in recent years you were utter shite. You won't be missed.

Despite the heat I had a decent Saturday.
Jon rang about 2 and asked if we fancied going for some lunch. So my twin John, Jon and myself headed into town and had a nice luch in a greasy spoon. I plumped for overly-strong tea and a bacon bagette - very tasty.
Then Jon gives me a ring at about 7. Us three head out to Bristol to Cribbs Causeway to watch the latest X-men film. My twin hadn't seen the first two, so he was totally bewildered by it all. But there was enough jazz in it to keep him entertained. Cribbs Causeway's cinema is one of those American-style multiplexes with the massive screens and decent seating, none of those nasty tip-up seats there :). I enjoyed it, although I did prefer the first two.
We did stay for the extra bit after the credits, as did a surprising number of people. It felt like some sort of club :).
Anyway, all in all had a decent Saturday for a change :)

Okay, I know all of you hate games, you think they're childish and all that, but if you want something fun, fun, and fun, and you own a PS2, honestly, this is brilliant : Global Defence Force. Basically you run/fly about destroying tons and tons and tons of B-movie-inspired aliens, flying saucers, spiders, ants, etc.
I picked up the Japanese version of this a few months back. It's easily the most fun I've had with a game in ages.
Oh well, had to mention it, for what it's worth.

| When Post-Modernism Turns Bad |
[04 Jun 2006|06:19pm] |
There are some pretty awful World Cup cash-in records this year, Sham 69, Shawaddywaddy, Stan Bordman eve, but the prize for Most Pointless Exercise In Musical History must surely go to Neil and Christine Hamilton, a couple who have, inexplicably, managed to remain in the public eye several years after their use-by date.
This entry isn't some post-modern ironic 'laugh', I'm being serious: I am keen to know the thinking behind this folly. It's not funny, it's not entertaining. It is, however, embarrassing, pointless, cynical twaddle.
( Not safe for work, not safe for anyone )
If you've ever fantasised about Christine Hamilton in football kit, I strongly suggest you seek psychiatric help as soon as possible.
