"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty."

-George Washington, Fairwell address circe 1796

"I know that George had a habit for using big words, so allow me to translate into 2008 English: Political parties that put their own success over that of the country's will be the death of America. " - Glenn Beck

I might not be the biggest fan of Beck... but... I am a fan of George Washington

Earthquake for breakfast

mmmmmmmmmmm eeaarrtthhquake

but seriously, if you're going to wake me up at 5:30 in the fucking morning, can you at least do it with some flair? Lets get with the program here MN, don't waste my time with these piddly little 5.2 magnitude pussy quakes anymore... I want the next one to split the U.S. in TWAIN! Maybe have yellowstone blow up or something tragically awesome.

I don't want to be woken up by another quake that does "minimal damage" ever again, just don't waste my time!

Sincerely,
me

Scrap Book

I bought an ounce of time
Tucked away to the tune of a cent
A nickle for a thought
A dime pays for a memory
But what if I stopped,
Ingeniously crafted fragments...
Cascaded, correlated, labeled
and sorted

In alphabetical order

I can see you've got the answers
At least for the minute,
Dear picture book
that you're standing in a photo
I can read your cursive,
scrawl across your paper
Date, place, moment,
Collected, labeled
and I can see how you stand
With two feet planted wide
Hands on your remorseless hips
And the tilts of your head just so
Matching the slant to your smile
And the glint to your eyes
Frozen in time

I can see you left the glass three quarters empty
Like some mocking pessimist
But I think you're self defeating, on purpose
I think you're inflating your own ego
And holding onto that needle,
just waiting for the pop
Maybe waiting to get your piece
Your slice of the dream
Your own crumbs, from the pie

I can see your picture books
Your photos, and your memories
Blacks and whites, on glossy
Color of fall's leaves
Memories
Memories
Memories

Just don't pack them away, yellowed and curled
So delicately at the corners
Just keep them out, for everyone to see

Regarding Pain

I could write about pain
Both the infliction,
and the addiction
Or maybe the silence
That comes with pride

A soldier, too proud
Too tall, too stubborn
To cry

I could share with you
Torment, memory,
Perhaps shame?
Maybe an ounce of misery,
a moment of tranquility

But I could fancy a tale
Of hearts, and stories
Where wishing wells,
Or wedding bells,
Are in one the same

I could write to you about pain
With inside it, its name
Were it true love, love lost,
Death, birth, regret
A name is just the label
The vessel

I could explain to you about pain
But my heart,
My heart is just not in it

I could share with you about memory
But my pain,
is not inclined to remember,
Just this moment

Pauper's Oath

I used to spill
Like cheap liquor
Waxing poetic, even if I didn't mean it
I used to quell
Like gun metal

I could catch a few stars
In my prime
Hold onto them here and there
I could wish, once upon a time
Waning justice, even if a truce

Even if for a moment

Where peace and quiet was gold
Silver and copper
Diamonds
And a smile meant more
Than my weight in promises

I used to spin
Like broken records..

I used to shine
Like villians
Like paupers
