July 26th, 2008 11:07 pm Comforter [ ] ourbedrooms [odd_cupcake] [ mood | sleepy ] So I need some help, I've tried looking through many websites such as Overstock.com, Target.com. Wal-mart.com for comforters. Originally I had in mind this from Target. But I want... let's just say... one that feels fresh to sleep in, like a cloud. I'm sorry that's just the best way I can describe it. I heard of comforters I'm not too sure what its called but its suppose protect the comforter and has a pocket where the comforter can be placed in. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. I cannot get new furniture or new carpet really due to money. My carpet is lilac and i've decided to paint all my room white to make it look brighter and bigger. Basically I need help on what I can put on my walls and what I should buy bed covers wise etc... All my furniture is beach wood. (One idea for one wall, is magazine cut outs, like designer adverts everywhere, i tried it and it looks great but not particularly grown up.)

However, I'll be going back to university in a few weeks and I'm going to start doing my back-to-school shopping tomorrow. This year I wanted my new dorm to be really decorated and given a very homely feel. What stores do you shop for dorm decorations, storage unites, etc. or which stores would you recommend? (>_<) But my little sister asked me to ask you all for help. If anyone has or has seen multicolored rooms (preferably with any of the colors pink, green, blue, or purple) could you please post them? I don't want the curtains to look too matchy matchy with the walls. Maybe a pattern would look good with some yellow in it, maybe floral or even a solid. I need help! Pictures would be nice too. July 26th, 2008 11:35 pm Phone [ ] rainbow_goddess I went out and bought myself a new cell phone today. I have wanted a new one for awhile, but since up until last Saturday I had $75 worth of minutes on my Fido phone, I couldn't really justify buying a new phone and wasting all those minutes. But then I lost the minutes, and Fido won't give them back, so I decided to make the best of things and get a new phone. I was having a lot of trouble deciding: Virgin, Rogers, or Telus, or even a new Fido. I was leaning toward Telus just because I could get a $50 phone with $50 worth of minutes, but they charged an activation fee and they will soon start charing pay-as-you-go customers for incoming text messages. I'd have to give up my Twitter updates if I got a Telus phone because that $50 worth of minutes would go bye-bye very quickly, even if I got only ten messages a day (and some of my Twitter friends send that many messages a day alone). I said to Monster, "What I want is to go to a store and tell someone what I want a phone for, and have them recommend one that would fit me." Monster suggested I go to the Wireless Wave store, where they have phones from all the major Canadian providers and the sales people aren't required to push one brand over another. The sales person did try to push a phone with a contract on me so that I didn't have the same thing happen that happened to me with Fido and lose the minutes if I don't refill on time. But the cheapest plan they had didn't include voice mail or call display, whereas all the prepaid phones did. Then he suggested I go with Virgin prepaid. I could buy a $100 voucher that would not have to be topped up for a year, and go with the per-minute billing. My only peeve is that I didn't know how to transfer my phone number from one provider to another, and to activate my phone online I had to take the number they gave me (well, one of three choices they gave me.) So now I have to tell everyone that I have a new cell number. Granted, not many people know my cell number, just Monster, victoriacatlady, my siblings, my friend Lucy who will be going back to Korea soon, and my credit-card company. Possibly my workplace knows it, but I'm not working there at the moment, and I told them that my first choice for communication is e-mail and my second choice is land-line phone. Now I have to go change my LJ text-message settings, and my Facebook mobile settings.

July 26th, 2008 9:50 pm Rangetop and Grout Cleaning [ ] hip_domestics [aislincalum] Roommate and I just moved into a cute little house. We went through a very long process to get our landlord to admit that the home is not "ready to move in" clean. Now that he has ackowledged it, Roommate and I want to make it acceptable. Our two main problems are the rangetop and the grout in the bathroom. The rangetop (built-in electric) is disgusting. It looks like every meal that was ever cooked on it was left to boil over and permanently attached itself in a ring around the burner. We used every cleaning product in the kitchen, and even bought a few others, but to no avail. We're at a loss. We'll try anything... Suggestions?? We also have had no luck at with the grout in our bathroom. It's black. It shouldn't be, but it is. I have tried CLR, Magic Erasers, and mopping until I pass out. We have managed to get a few spots here and there clean...ish. Does anyone have any ideas for very, very, very good tile floor cleaning products? We both refuse to go in there barefoot. :o/ Thanks, all!! 8

July 26th, 2008 9:57 pm What the heck does a bridesmaid actually DO? [ ] hip_domestics [poltzactrss] Background: I'm the baby of my family. I have 3 older sisters (I'm 22 years old then there's a 24 year old, then 28 and then 29) The oldest got married when I was 17 and had mono so I was no help through the wedding process. I was too busy getting ready for college (she got married 2 weeks before I went off to my freshman year out of state) and too sick to really do anything. I was a bridesmaid but that meant I stood in a dress at the alter and that's about it. Dilemma: Now my sister, the 24 year old, is getting married at the beginning of August. She's been engaged for a year but we're not really close (sibling rivalry, will it ever die?) and I've spent the last 2 months living on a ship off the coast of Alaska so I've been out of the loop. I've known since Christmas that I would be a bridesmaid along with my other two sisters and her future SIL. Now we're getting down to crunch time and my mom is in a panic because nobody through M, my sister, a bridal shower. (Side rant: Mom tried to shove the guilt down my throat that I didn't throw a shower and I kindly reminded her 1. It isn't considered best manners for ANY member of the bride's family to throw the shower and 2. I've been in Alaska for crying out loud!) Anyway now the future MIL, the groom's ma, is all up in arms and is throwing my sister a bridal shower 2 days before the I Dos. The future MIL wants it to be a Pound Party (I'd never heard of this) where everybody brings a pound of something nonperishable for the new couple. Flour, sugar, etc.  So...here are my questions: 1. I'm not throwing the bridal shower but seeing as how it will be at my parents house (where I'll be staying along with the bride) and I'm a bridesmaid should I do something to help out? I've only met the groom's mother once before and that was back at Christmas trying on bridesmaid dresses. I know my mom is probably doing all she can to help out but I feel I'm old enough to do my part...which is what? and this lead to:  Part B of Question 1: What on earth do you get your sister for a bridal shower? I can't get her lingerie - oh God, the mortification...my mother watching...crotchless panties....No way. Ew. I've already thought it would be cute for the pound part to get a big carton of dog bones (they just bought an 8 month old Newfie puppy!! His name is Elvis) is that too weird? Or is it cute?  2. Neither of them cook. At all. So I asked M (after racking my brain and pulling my hair out) what on earth did they want for their wedding gift from me and my boyfriend. She said a super easy wine-opener (which shocked the hell out of me seeing as his dad is a recovered alcoholic and therefore he doesn't drink) but that's what she said so that's what she's getting. We have a William-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and Crate and Barrel locally so if anyone could recommend a good (but preferrably under $120) easy to use wine opener I'd appreciate it. I saw an electric one on William Sonoma's website but it's so expensive I'd like to know it's worth the investment before getting it. And any other tips. I feel so bad for M because our other two sisters, while also bridesmaids, are having their own personal problems right now and can't help out so much. I'm driving home on Monday and staying there until the wedding (2 weeks away) to help out as much as can. Any tips? Please? 23
